This Video is Part 2 of the Best Attachments for Gravel Driveway Series. In this video I try out the 3 point land plane. It's an RK by King Kutter 7' Dual Edge Land Grader and I have it hooked up to the RK 55. It worked very well especially for the first time using it, abetter test will be when I use it somewhere that doesn't have an oversupply of 2b limestone on it.
The Dual edge land plane in the video can be found at www.rktractors.com
contact for Outdoors With The Morgans is outdoorswiththemorgans@gmail.com

Hi Mike I've operated motor graders for about 20 years now and have built many roads , I think you are absolutely right in what you say about building roads and a lot of people Will learn the correct way from watching these videos . As for that road with all that loose stone ,it might be as well to just add fine material on a wet day or add water afterwards that will then tighten up a bit . Keep them coming Mike 👌👍

@Ryan Robinett Around where I live, only the commercial industry calls it what it is. Residential places (sell by the yard instead of truck) all sell it as crusher run.

I agree totally about the rock they used. It never packs and is hard to plow. I plow snow on some lanes with this type of 'bigger round' stone and all I do is plow this expensive rock off to the side of the road. Great idea you have doing a 3 part on these attachments. Getting lots of info!!!

The blades are angled to carry material to the left side of the attachment. The idea behind this is to drive as if you were in a car, right side of the road, it pulls material from the right edge and deposits it on the left side of the attachment. Which would be in the center of the road helping make a slight crown if you had a driveway that was two passes wide. Nice video.
@dpayne7571
@dpayne7571 2 года назад
But what if your driveway is just the width of one car, how do you form a crown with a 72inch grading scraper? You would have to grade the grass along the road correct?

Another great video Mike. I too have a 7' Land Leveler and love it. I raise the front of mine slightly to allow the gravel to more freely rollover the top and back...kind of like a mini waterfall. Also you might want to get a quick hitch for all those 3 pt hitch implements. I have one the back of my Kubota M7060 and its a life saver! Like I said yesterday, based on your video of the heavy duty blade from Rural King I'm probbaly going to get one but one with hydraulics to make it easier for me.

Next time you adjust for your crown lower the opposite side than you lowered in this video. The way you adjusted it counter acted the way the rock should move across the blade due to gravity pulling it to one side. You want the rock to flow from low to high. I could be wrong but when I adjusted mine that way it seemed to have a better finish. Just a suggestion.
@mikedlc5709
@mikedlc5709 6 лет назад
When you have less gravel on the road, adjust the right side of the land plane about 2 inches lower than the other side. You can run the right box end right on the edge and salvage the rock that the blade looses off to the overflow. Only tool I use on my drive.

Another great video. I continue to learn things from your vast store of knowledge. Side note: I use epidemic sound, as well. It’s nice, at times, to only play the instrumental part, because the vocals ( or lyrics) simply detract from the video I’m trying to present. In fact, sometimes I’ll simply use a couple of stems, overlaid. Play around with it, and you’ll be able to avoid a Wifty souding beatle, from Norway. ( My two cents, and worth every penny you paid for it ...)

I have long considered a land plane. I have not used one but watched several videos on using them. I agree it appears there is too much gravel which just magnifies the moving of the gravel to the side. However, if you can get down to the base you put down and mix it with the added gravel, that might help solidify it from what I have watched, the land plane is intended to cut the top surface off down to like bottom of potholes and evenly distribute the material and maintain that crown. What I saw is almost no gravel was going over the second blade. So it was more like a box blade it looked like in this case. In our situation the gravel was put on fairly thin with fabric to keep the softer spots from absorbing all the gravel and still be soft. Want the land plane, just not sure I wouldn't tear the fabric by accident.

As already stated; 'another nice video series' about the use of this equipment and the art of graded road maintenance. Totally agree that using an 'open graded' stone like that (B2 limestone) is not right. There are 3 reason roads fail; 1-water/drainage; 2-water/drainage, and 3-water/drainage. I learned long ago, you have to keep water from getting to the subgrade. Using the 'crusher run', which is well-graded, will compact better and provide a seal against water moving through the stone and into the subgrade. FYI, the term 'well-graded' means various sizes of the stone. Like you stated, 3/4" down to dust. You need those small sized particles to help compact and seal the surface. Open-graded mean 'all one size' and therefore voids that allow water to move into it.

I really appreciate the three-part presentation on maintaining a gravel road with various tractor implements. Your set up and commentary is on point and your delivery is unassuming, but confident. I've been subscribed to your channel for quite some time and enjoy the content of virtually all of the videos. If there is there is one negative, and i realize this has nothing to do with the content or quality of information, but the music is often a distraction. The music on this video is actually annoying. I'd rather hear the engine on the equipment running or simple silence than the music. OK, that's enough with the negative. Again, I'd like to commend your commentary, content, and videography. Best of luck with the RK tractor line up and all of your projects. You've convinced me to take a good look at the RK tractors for work on my own land.

That's where we are moving our cabin... Front of property is on a street with a few homes so I'm blocking that end off... The road in the back is long and rough but it seems like your out in the wood... 40 acres behind that property were trying to buy.. Our property gives that property, or could, electric and access...

Try the land plane on the driveway for the "new" house. It may help to put some fines into that mix to keep it from moving; see if the gravel quarry sells something like half inch to dust size gravel, top the road with that then go back and mix it with all the stone that is there. I am not sure how well that would work. it looked a bit like you needed to drop the right hand side while you were working it, level knocks the crown down is how it was appearing. Work in progress, use it until you know it. Thanks for the video.
@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans

@ritterjon 6 лет назад
You definitely need some crusher run on that road. We have a similar product here they call class 2 crushed granite. I’ve used it for our paver patio base, under the shed and a parking pad on the side of the garage. It compacts very hard. You were right the land plane is a one trick pony but does that one trick very well. Thanks for the tutorial! How many residents are off of your road?

Just three homes back there (I don't live there) the lots are like 5 to 10 acre size, and I sold one big lot which was just a big valley that had frontage off another road. I was thinking when I was out there I paid 95K for those 40 acres, today it would have been between 500 and 600K. Like I always say when you buy land you can't believe how expensive it is but when you look back years later you can't believe how little you paid for it lol.

Yea I know that, to much gravel and I didn't want to mix dirt in with it, if I had brought anymore out cars would be spinning on it and really making a mess. What needs done (if they wanted to is to haul out lots of gravel thats on there) then do ditch lines and grade road

Never ran one so take what I say with a grain of salt but looks like the the lead blade needs tilted up so it doesn’t “box blade” it. Now as you said way too much gravel. Don’t think I’ll run out and get one because like you box blade is still my favorite implement

Do you like your RK tractor over your Kubota if you were going to buy one

That’s a loaded question. He has a contract with RK now. Probably not the best time to expect an unbiased comparison.

grade up all that excess gravel, load it onto a truck and ship it to Kapper..... I think people keep sneaking onto his property and putting down truckloads of mud everywhere. Then, use the land plane to refurb the crusher run you already have on top of your base. You probably don't even need more crusher run.
