I was so sick for too long in my early 20’s (40 years ago) with this terrible disease. My bladder was full of bleeding ulcers and I was not living a life of any quality what so ever. I’ve had two radical necks from thyroid cancer and every symptom of fibromyalgia, lupus and Hashimoto’s disease but this IC was the most devastating period of my life. I begged to have my bladder removed until Stanford told me it rarely relieves the pain. Almost like a phantom bladder. I wish anyone who suffers with this to not give up during a acute flare. I’ve been free from most bladder pain since I had my bladder lining burned out with Clorpactin and will never forget the doctor who treated me so long ago. I never knew until recently it was associated with my fibromyalgia. I stay away from triggers ie; alcohol, some spicy foods etc. I thank you for bringing awareness to IC.

Thank you. Had serious painful interstitial cystitis when I was younger. Found some foods made it worse, like baked ham, almonds…..Didn’t help that my late husband was a chef and loved making hot and highly spiced foods. I eat a very bland diet now, that I’m older so it’s not much of a problem now. Flare ups can be usually linked to something I’ve been eating.

Hi, thank you for this informative video. Have a question in regard to training the bladder: what would be considered normal in terms of frequency of urinating? 4-5 times in 24 hours? Does it also depend on sweating, humidity, etc factors. My apologies, this question is not directly comnected to bladder pain.
@DrAndreaFurlan

Hi Ale, yes, 4 to 5 times a day is considered adequate.

My bladder was tested for how much it could hold before I felt the need and was not much. I was basically at my worst going a drop every 5 minutes but started to try and increase my volume captivity by waiting as long as I could before going.
