Hello Thomas, I LOVE your channel! You give honest and informative info about foods, topics and products that I would've never given a second thought about and now I question everything...I'm 52 yrs old, 6ft tall, an 8yr Marine Corps vet. and currently a 25yr veteran police officer. I started my weight loss journey just after Thanksgiving 2022 at 385lbs. My biggest vice I'm ashamed to say was Mountain Dew soda pop...I mean REALLY, I was drinking 2-3 2 liters a day sometimes 4 on my off days from work for probably the last 23 years. When i was in the Corps I was 190-205lbs when i started with my police depth. in 98' I was 230lbs and well u know the end result. I made the decision to quit my liquid crack cold turkey after Thanksgiving due to my increasingly bad BP and knee pain. just from stopping the soda pop from then to late February I lost 25lbs. I don't really eat bad (as in fast foods, desserts or candy) or eat a lot of different meals everyday, but my thing was I would eat HUGE portions of whatever 1 meal I would eat that day. I then decided to go on a smoothie meal replacement diet for breakfast and lunch and have a moderate dinner at night...which was how I discovered your channel looking for smoothie recipes and discovered using liquid monk fruit and stevia powder as sweeteners. I am glad to say that the info I have gotten from your vids have changed my outlook on a wide variety of things and I can't thank you enough for that! As of this posting I am down to 320lbs and that's just from the elimination of sugar in my diet, my smoothie/meal plan and of course drinking at least a gallon (sometimes 2) of water everyday. I just had to find a way to make water work for me cuz I ALWAYS hated drinking it, especially room temp water, just not gonna do it! When I was in the Corps in Desert Storm, they used to have us line up and drink a whole canteen of warm water 4 times a day. I think that psychologically put me against water at all after that! I got myself a 1 gallon insulated steel jug, cut up a whole Cucumber, orange and lemon, throw them in the jug and fill the rest with ice then add the water. It's like a refreshing sports drink to me and i just refill it with cold water that i keep in the fridge so the ice lasts a couple days. I take that jug with me everywhere. My goal is when I get down to 300lbs I will then start a light cardio and stretching workout regime that I know I will stick with and slowly increase its intensity then later incorporate some weightlifting. I really didnt mean to type all this but something said for me to share, in fact my original comment after watching this video was gonna be to ask you to do a pizza restaurant chain / store bought brand best/worse comparison (PLEASE, I think that would be a good vid) KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK YOURE DOING!!! Thanks sincerely from a grateful Jarhead!!!

In a nutshell: Just don't go to fast food places.
@sopranosfan11
@sopranosfan11 Год назад
Exactly. The problem for a lot of people is that they still drink alcohol at bars and they get the drunken munchies and want/need to sober up late at night but the kitchen is closed so they just go to Micky D's or Taco Bell or BK etc. So much of fast food consumption is connected to drugs and alcohol. If one is able to cut out all recreational alcohol/drugs and just exercise and eat low carb organic, you'll never have a reason to go through a fast food drive thru ever again. I'm realistic though and realize that everyone goes through different stages in life and not everyone is in the phase where they can get through life without intoxicating themselves.

Up until about 2 months I used to consume fast food for every meal of the day. I’m a truck driver and so it was very difficult for me to eat anything else. However, 2 months ago I just started eating less and less fast food gradually and stopped snacking so unhealthily in between meals and have gone from 222lbs down to 200lbs. That’s 22 pounds in 2 months and I have not made any drastic changes to my diet. I still eat fast food but on significantly rarer occasions (maybe once or twice a week) and I also don’t exercise whatsoever. Not even walking. I know I should but with my depression and with my job, it’s extremely difficult to make myself exercise. I share my story because I was someone who never thought they could stop eating fast food. I would always say it’s impossible and make up every excuse in the book. But I’m telling you, it’s so incredibly easy to start trimming weight once you take that first step. I’ll tell you exactly what I do: Breakfast 8:30am: Jimmy Dean breakfast bowl (500 calories or less) Absolutely no snacks or anything in between breakfast and lunch. Lunch 1:30pm: Usually either a grilled chicken bowl or grilled chicken salad (500 calories or less) Maybe 1-2 100 calorie or less snacks before dinner. Dinner 8:30pm (I get home late every day from working 11+ hours): Anything under 500 calories. Absolutely no fried foods whatsoever. Following this every day has led to me losing an average of 11lbs per month without any exercise whatsoever and I still eat the foods I want, just watch the portions and caloric intake. I still drink beer regularly as well. You CAN do this and you WILL lose weight.

You might want to try to make your own jerky. All you need is an oven…I buy decent roasts, slice them thin, then slow cook them when I have time(in the oven on a rack). All you have to do is open the oven every hour or two to get rid of the excess moister. I do season liberally with Lawry’s before hand. Stuff is awesome and can seriously reduce your daily caloric intake while providing a solid protein base. I also make sardine salad sandwiches….just as tasty as tuna with far more vitamins and minerals with little to no mercury

@@defaultworkouts fortunately I’m a local truck driver now so I have to do several stops throughout the day. And I’m actually physically loading/unloading the truck at these stops. But when I was doing long haul, over the road trucking, I would be sitting and driving anywhere from 3-5 hours at a time and never physically loaded/unloaded the freight at my stops.

The worst thing is, whenever someone eats at a fast food place, they rarely only eat a burger or fries bny their own, but they combine them with various sugar and fat laden sauces, large cups of sodas and/or milkshakes plus sweet desserts! So for a full fast food meal, people are really overdosing on fats and sugar in combination, sending their digestive system and metabolism straight into distress!

Yes, agreed. In Canada, A&W is pretty solid going on a full tilt healthy fast food pitch in recent years with a menu very different from A&W USA. Still fast food but better than many of the other options. Although they’ve cut some things like they had KFC / Popeyes style fried chicken options but ditched that a few years ago at most locations. They recently upgraded many locations to have frozen root beer and other drinks but it’s basically a glorified slushy from 711, and it’s made fresh to order but it’s like frozen while being made? It’s weird… it’s not fast. I had to wait for mine and had finished my burger dining in while still waiting for my drink. They also got rid of the floats which was root beer with a scoop of ice cream in it, which was always much quicker to get. Although more often lately I just get water instead of soft drinks / soda popz

I think sonic uses some kind of hydrogenated oils in their burger patties, Like actually mixed in with the meat before they cook it, so that it appears juicier or something. I get burger patties from Wendy’s quite a lot because it’s the only common fast food joint that uses straight up beef and nothing else for their patties and I travel all over the nation so a lot of the time I’m in hotels and can’t cook. I try to get hotel rooms that have kitchenettes but a lot of the time I can’t get one

Yep this is correct. Actually I noticed this 2 decades ago when I was researching low carb as part of the Atkin's Diet I was on for a spell. It seems at the time researchers noticed that men who consumed large amounts of fat and carbs had the highest incidence of CVD. They surmised that the issue was both fat and carb together is what was wrong with the standard western diet. If you picked just one to be high and then leave the other low, you were ok. Of course the issue with low-fat is satiety or the lack of. I tried low fat many times years ago and yes it worked, for a time. I starved most of the time, was always hungry and it forced me to add a thermogenic supplement to kill my appetite. I never stayed on low fat and gained back the weight faster than I lost it. It wasn't until I found keto that the weight came off and permanently. It's insane to see the amount of fat and carbs in some of these meals. That french toast at CCF is a perfect example. The one I make that tastes pretty much as good has about a tenth of the calories with 2 net carbs per slice of toast. It has about 6 gr of protein per slice with 8 gr fat (mostly from the eggs I use). There's no reason to add sugar and I sprinkle ground cinnamon which is a known anti-inflammatory spice. This is the primary issue I have with Southern cuisine - the use of sugar on everything. You want a bowl of turnip greens, make sure they leave off of the quarter cup of sugar they add to every bowl.

I may be wrong, but as I understand it the bread and buns in most fast food joints contain more sugar than average so that when they toast them they form a hard crust that keeps the condiments from soaking in. The 3 main reasons most food in the USA and the west has become un healthy is. #1 The change from frying in lard to grain oils. Before 1970 most food was fried in LARD which is more stable than grain oils and has less trans fat. #2 Most beef before 1970 was at least grass fed until finishing. All this beef will have higher Omega 3 oils and more vitamin D. #3 GMO wheat flower. The current GMO wheat flower has a much higher gluten content of one type of gluten that keeps bread soft. It also sticks to the veins and arteries and is vary hard to digest.

Wow, the calorie content on some of those items was way more than I expected. That seafood platter is more calories than I've had in the last 2 days but it really doesn't even look like that much food. You are right, you can't stress enough how bad trans fats and hydrogenated oils are. These corporations add cheap unhealthy fats to reduce costs and make their food more addictive; your wellbeing is the least of their concern. You simply cannot leave your health at the mercy of these companies.
