I am 61% Scottish so I love the tartan. I love the tradition of the room...but it is your home and you have to do what is right for you. I do know one thing, that whatever you do will be amazing. Take care and thanks for sharing.
It is of course your house, but for me, I am a lover of all things plaid. I really love the old world charm of that particular plaid fabric. It reminds of old movies I watched as a kid and just gives me that warm "I'm home" feeling. You are the one who is living there, so yes, follow your own heart and ideas. I love the way you set your goals & get after it. Gives me hope that I will one day be like that way again.
Dear Sherry, your videos are always very interesting but I have to say that I absolutely adore your speach. As a non-native speaker I highly appreciate your perfect and understandable comments. Thanks a million.
Betty here.....I love that plaid wall covering and your entire home is beautiful. You have inspired me to work on my living room! Yesterday my husband challenged me to a $10 limit at the thrift store and I bought an end table and two lampshades (all 50%off) and spent $8.21. I'm on a Mackenzie Childs inspired phase and plan to paint all three items in that style. Your video has motivated me!!!
One day you will walk into your living room and decide to remove the wallpaper… until then you have done a fabulous job decorating to compliment it!👏🏻😀
OOPS! One more thing....your mantel is SPECTACULAR!!! Your home is just BEAUTIFUL...and so so comfy and cozy...what a wonderful feeling it must be to sit in front of that fireplace at the end of a cold, wintery day! Again, thank you so much for sharing it with us!!
The wall covering reminds me of an old men's cigar smoking room, yes, I would love to see you take it down. Anything you do, I'm sure, would be a huge improvement!
I always feel like I'm taking a design class with a wonderful teacher when I watch your videos. I gladly watch the ads. You work so hard and always deliver a quality video! Thanks, Sherry!
@@flowerflower4587 I mean I don't mind watching the ads in Sherry's videos. She makes a little money each time someone watches an ad in her videos. She does such a wonderful job putting her videos together, I'm happy to watch the ads so she can get paid for that. I hope this explanation helps.
I actually like the vintage feel of the fabric wallcovering. It's very traditional in design, but also a unique application that's not common these days. I think you've styled it nicely!
If you have been considering taking down the plaid for 8 years, you have given it plenty of time. Be brave! Take the leap! You don’t have to replace it immediately. Maybe paint the wall and live with it for a while. Then you can decide if you want paint, wallpaper or fabric. You are so talented! I totally enjoy binge- watching your channel!
I love the little nest in the stairway; it looks like a little bird flew into your house, loved how cozy your home is, and found the perfect spot for her cozy little home. I also really like the dark green and wood tones of the little dresser/stand. I’d leave the trim unpainted. I can see why you loved your home when you bought it and are loving it again.
Hi from London England. I love your channel. Just a tip...I would either take down the padding on the wall or you could just paint it. Add fabric softener to chalk paint and it will give a leather look to the walls. I think it would be great and it really works. You may need a few coats though. Keep content coming. Take care 🤗
I think you should try painting it also. If you don't care for the look in the end, you still have the option of taking it down. I am sure you would do a fabulous job.
You can buy paints that work on fabric. My favorite is Heritage Traditions Paint (HTP) which you can buy online. A little goes a long way and it works well on everything (fabric, wood, plastic, ceramic, etc.).
@@toddrt5105 no ma'am...no additives required. Once it dries you can sit on it with no worries about paint transferring to your clothes or skin. It already has additives in it that makes the paint stretch with the fabric so it won't crack and peel like regular paint would. The fabric has a leather like feel once it dries. I'm not affiliated with them. I just like it so much that I reorder a lot and spend too much money on. 😆 But it's a great product so I use it a lot to update my old furniture. Google them...lots of tutorials on it that will teach you all about it. www.allinonepaint.com
Comprehensive bookcase decoration was so helpful! Not just showing but explaining the process made it into a tutorial, thank you! Blessed and safe days!
here is a tip for you, Sherrie. To keep from getting paint on your fingers when painting screws or nails, stick them in cardboard box, leaving them sticking up some. No more painting fingers. Love your videos. You are an inspiration.
Love your house! Since you don’t care for the fabric on the wall I would take it down and paint it a beautiful light color. That room would be so much brighter. It will be a lot of work but worth it in the end. ❤️Barb@thriftyfleabee
I loved your comment about putting something surprising in each room :-) the trunk being merged with that little table was incredibly cute and creative!
I wouldn't want you to take down the wall covering... It gives the room an 'old England' feel and it isn't impossible to make it feel upgraded by changing out the things like you did. I love it!
An excellent video once again. Houses need to be changed around. It is cathartic and helpful for living in a different way, as families grow, change, leave, add on, you know, life! Living in a place for a while we realize our tastes change and that's that. so enjoy your re-loving your house back into your home! Terri
I'm always rearranging stuff makes me feel like I have new stuff. I love rearranging my furniture. My husband would go to work at 2 pm and when he came home at midnight he'd say well you've been busy.
I’m in the camp of keeping the wall covering up. I think the changes you made around it with the bookcase and the accessories has improved the overall English hunt vibe and I’m loving it. 😍😍. The addition of the birds nest on the salvaged column👌🏻. I love the driftwood in the “lantern” makeover 👌🏻. Your bird wall is very cottage core cool. 😻 The suitcase is awesome too. That green painted small chest….💚💚💚. You continue to WOW me every Tuesday Sherry !! 🥰😘
I love the plaid walls and the Old English Cottage feel they give your room, I would keep them. This is a very interesting idea of using what you have, changing the placement of items, and giving things you already have a new look with paint or stain and would love more videos like this.
I use screws to hang pictures. To me they are more secure than nails. You can even put a drop of glue on the tip of the screw and then I paint the screw head to match the wall. That way if the screw head is showing it will blend in with the wall. Never heard of "sticky tack". That's a good tip. Yes, yes, yes to faux flowers. You find and repurpose the most wonderful metal items, like the plant stand turned candle holder. I'm jealous! Sherry, would you consider a "lantern giveaway". I love your repurposed Habitat lanterns. Yes, the new one it fabulous. Thank you.
I just love the little suitcase side table! I have always had a fondness for collecting old suitcases. As far as the fabric wall covering goes, I’d vote to remove it. Although it is unique and does add a certain character to the room, it is also quite dominating and limiting as to future decor changes. It would be a lot of work to remove it, then repair/prep the walls, but I think it would be worth it to have so many more decor options in the room. My opinion is just that, however. I look forward to seeing what you decide, and based on all I’ve seen on your channel so far, I’m sure it will be awesome. 😊
Thanks for the feedback, Jodi!🥰 I failed to mention that the padding consists of little panels nailed into the walls-that is what is scaring me away from taking it down!
@@CanterburyCottage I figured as much. I helped a friend remove similar panels from an older study in her home, but they were leather (and extremely worn, faded, and cracking). After we took them down, we had to fill all the holes left from what seemed like nine billion tiny nails, then sand and paint. It looked great when we were finished, but it was a tedious job. It actually didn’t take us as long as we had expected to actually remove the panels. It was mainly just all the filling and such that was more time consuming.
You most definitely have become my favorite RU-vid hostess. Your soft voice and inspiring creativity keeps me looking forward to your videos. My favorite was the foyer mirror and the whimsical suitcase table. Thank you for your inspirations! Blessings from Wisconsin.
Love Love Love your new stairway with your bird pictures!! The nest on the decorative pillar put it over the top! I look forward to your channel each week!! You are the best!!
Love the bombe chest with the green paint on it, especially the contrast of the green with the original wood trim. Less is more on the paint, and the contrast showcases the piece's curves.
Foyer mirror was my favorite. Plaid wall covering is tough. Although a beautiful plaid , not sure of the amount in the room . Take it all down but a few small areas, then paint with solid color . Or remove it all. Your decor in that room doesnt need that plaid. The decor itself makes the room. Thank you for this episode.
I know it’s time for the fabric to come down. It’s going to be a BIG job-I’m pretty sure the padding consists of small panels that have been nailed into the wall! As always, thanks for watching and commenting, Ms. GG!🥰
It’s so interesting to see the wallpaper opinions!! Sometimes I buy a piece of white foam board, paint a sample color to leave up for a bit to vet the change. Gotta run get my trash bag, and declutter. 😎. Thanks, Elizabeth
For that round coffee table, when you go to refresh it, maybe try faux painting a stone top. It would work well because the base is so thick and heavy, like it was built to support a stone top.
For the Hobby Lobby dresser/side table you painted green-might be pretty with a rub-on transfer on the front of the drawers from Prima Re-Design. They have some with floral/bird combos or hydrangeas that would compliment the other decor in your home.
The Bombay dresser with the green paint and natural wood trim looks amazing. Love the complimentary yet contrasting colors & texture (paint vs wood). I would probably gild the the hanging pulls (only the part that hangs) with copper gilding and then add some green gilding putty to the indents to make it look 'aged'. I think 'aged copper' pulls would look amazing and coordinate well with the green and wood.
What I never hear about upholstered walls...the most important thing is it's acoustical value...either upholster over it or glaze it to soften the look. You are Divine and I binge watch your posts
Take it down. Make it your own. I know you will love the room afterwards. I know it would be a big project, but I know you can do it. You are such an inspiration.
No never take the wall covering down!! It’s super neat! Don’t let the neutral trends influence your dislike of it! What a perfect cozy space for Christmas or any winter occasion! Sipping warm drinks in that red leather wing back..... heaven on earth!
I think I am going to keep it for a bit longer. I’m going to change out the sofa (which was a hand me down) which I have never liked instead. I think that might be enough of a change to satisfy me.
Be still my heart! I absolutely love your front living room!!! I use to work for Ralph Lauren and this room screams RL!!! What a cozy, classy space!!! I would love to have the plaid walls in my home!!! I also LOVE the gallery wall that you did! So many great changes, Sherry! Nice job!
Love, love, love the made suitcase table! I have a collection of suitcases and I think I’ll try it (even if I have LOTS of tables already. I’ll story some elsewhere for a while. Thanks for simple yet big change!
When you get tired of the round coffee table, it would be great for a children's play room. Paint the top so it looks like a cartoon tortoise shell. Paint the chunky legs to suit. Add a cushion seat shaped like its head, and set it between the 'forelegs' It is low enough for kids to sit or kneel at for crafts, etc.
I love all your ideas here. I find it amazing that just a few changes can make such a huge difference. I can’t believe you winged the placement of your pictures in the stairwell. It takes me 20 minutes to arrange a throw to make it look as if I carelessly tossed it there. I look forward to your videos every week!
Red is my favorite color and I am very fond of a Foxhunt look. It always reminds me of a masculine and well collected library. But if it isn't "you", if your masculine counterpart doesn't care for it....change it. Love your home. But it's okay to celebrate a family member by giving them a space they love as well. Just thought I would toss that into the mix.
The fabric wall covering pattern colors are very dated. This charming room could look a lot better done in lighter colors. You can paint the fabric and find instructions on Utube. I would try that before going to the work of removing if you didn’t like the painting results.
I would take some of the wall covering down, but leave one wall or one section of wall up. It's something unusual that should be celebrated. Perhaps then it wouldn't be so overwhelming for you. Thanks for the inspiration.
I really love both the driftwood piece with the outdoor light along with the suitcase table. I am going to be on the lookout for a light just like you have to try this too.
Great ideas! Love the big mirror. I would replace the plaid wall coverings which are attractive but I would go with something softer. Have a great week!
The CHEST YOU painted turned out BEAUTIFUL..... The Out Door Lantern with the Pieces of drift wood was Really NICE... Last, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Suit Case Side Table.......
Don’t paint the trim, looks great! I would remove the fabric wall! I think you could do something lovely! I just discovered your channel and I’m obsessed. You are so creative and talented!
Yes Sherri, I was so inspired by your quick 15 diy changes. I have an out light fixture that I will take apart and spray paint. Since you asked…yes I would remove the padded, plaid wall covering. You have so many beautiful treasures that would really take centre stage with the wall treatment gone.
Good morning Sherry! I absolutely adore your gallery wall of birds and your new coffee table. The table you painted a gorgeous green - leave the trim as is. I like the wreath on your beautiful mirror and the suitcase table I'm in love with! Your plaid covered walls seemed diminished with the decor changes you made. I so look forward to your videos - wish you could do twice a week😉. Thanks for all the tips and inspiration 🙂❤️
I like the English feel of the wall covering, but the room would be much brighter and more airy without it. It looks like the rest of your house is more green/blue a pale green would be lovely.
