Second gen fan here! Got into kpop during first gen while in grade school but second gen was truly the renaissance. It was more accessible, the idols were in my age range. The colors, the stylings, the music...what a time.

The reason why SNSD music was blasted towards North Korea were many. 1) They were a religion in the military, most army men loved girls generation so they wouldnt mind listening to them on repeat. 2) SNSD music and TV show appearances were smuggled into north korean territory massively. They were an escape to the oppression and this was known by the "government" reason they created their own approved 9 member girl band as a counter meassure. 3) South korean entertainment highlighted the "freedom"" and differences between the south and the north and everytime their people listened or watched SNSD's content they were reminded of the things tthey didn't have. According to people who has scaped from North Korea SNSD was widely known in the north even among officials, but it was dangerous to be caught with anything related to south korean entertanment. Most probably "rich" kids or the siblings of high rank officials were the ones that smuggled SNSD stuff since they were the only permited to leave the country or use internet or things were smuggled from chinese tourists.

Personally 2nd is the hit for me. The music is alot more western now and all kinda sounds the same. I adored the uniqueness kpop bought within groups. It still does but it just not my style nowdays. B.A.P.... SPEED... 4 minute.. MissA.. 2NE1... Original SHINEE.. BUGBANG.. 9muses. I mean Brown eyed girls were still powerhouses... etc.. like the groups had such a wowness... And they all went for various soundsm the kpop nowdays is all very similar in content style with nothing new. It all dance beats and it lacking for me personally. Gidle I like. They def have a range many groups don't lately. Also they just were alot more mature and had alot of fun. Inter friendships and of course dealt with bad fans if some dating came out. Especially when Taeyeon had to take the load when found out dating exo member. But like they took it and didn't let it bring them down. They had a stronger sense of not letting fans ruin them. But second gen lost some good people too.. Jonghyun.. Sulli.. go hara :( some more also passed. Group wise I think second gen had it best. The music the style the energy. Groups now days blow up with the views. Good for them. But genuine music I love 2nd gen. They weren't afraid to own it. Of course some forced and that is wrong that is everywhere. But with them being adults it felt more natural hearing the real love music, hardship, etc. Nowdays it doesn't have the emotion in the vocals

So many of these are wrong. Taeyeon recused to be on the same stage as Wiz. It's not the first time she's acted that way toward black artists. And Obama never said he was a fan of SHINee. Where in "young people learn Korean to understand SHINee" does it say "I'm a fan"
