I bought a 2016 Boxster 718 GTS just today! I pick her up from the dealer on Monday. My first Porsch-uh ever, so this is useful info. Thanks for the video!
Very informative review. The idea of why the key is on the left instead of the right is interesting, it makes some sense about Racing, but I also have heard it’s because it saved on wiring. I can’t swear to that, it was just something I heard probably on the internet 🤔
Remember, you are in North America. The ignition switch is on the right in right hand drive markets. Also, the windows move down slightly to clear the roof. Boxsters have always had this feature.
That body cover for the GAS cap is also locked by the central locking system. Also, when you put the roof up; if you continue to hold the roof up button, the windows will raise as well. When you exit the vehicle, the windows will drop an inch and then raise up when you close the door.
Oh I like auto windows up features, thanks for sharing! Do most cars not lock the gas cap? I thought it was standard (but my last 4 cars have been BMWs).
Nothing new but an informative video all the same, I've made some videos covering maintenance tips if you do fancy buying one, good things to check before purchasing. 👍
Thank you , you told us about the BMW Z4 Engine issues . Could you tell us about the Porsche Boxster or cayman issues which engine is better ? Whats the different .
I heard about the paddles and neutral function. Since March I hardly drive mine. But today was 2nd family function, as my family is scary when it comes to common sense precautions on Covid. I tried it and it didn’t work. Also the other similar video says if you hold down the unlock function, the top will come down, nope. Also I didn’t know the cup holder middle can close when using them.
The neutral function (pulling on both paddles) only works when the brake pedal is being depressed. It has worked on both my PDK 981’s. Also, the one-touch button to open/close the top, and also from the key fob, requires an aftermarket modification called SmarTop (I have that on my 2nd 981).
They drive very differently. The Z4 (although I have the 28i) feels faster off the line and nicer at higher speeds, but the Boxster is very planted and feels sportier. It's almost like a sporty convertible car vs a sports car if you know what I mean.
@@SimpleCarGuy thanks, I'm moving on from a mk2 Audi tt, do the rear wheel drive and extra power of the Z4 will probably be enough for now. May go for the 981 S another time, but the repair costs of know issues is putting me off.
You missed one. You also didn't know that Porsche is a two syllable word: Por-shuh not Porsh. ;-) Great video though! I did not know about the rear fog light. Gonna go check that out on my 981.
Technically it is incorrect the way I say it, but when I say it correctly, people here in US look at me weird and I’ve even been ‘corrected’ a few times. I’m not bothered either way lol, I mispronounce many words. Thanks for watching!
I own 2015 981 s same colors as in video and also have owned 2012 M3 must say both Amazing cars but must say do get just a bit of a special feeling when in the Porsche think just cause see less of them then the BMW they both are drivers cars with The M3 having the edge on speed and the 981 handled better , Tough call but think Porsche just edges out but either car is a win
The PDK is not an automatic in the conventional sense. It is a dual clutch computer managed gearbox so rev matching is just as appropriate as with any other gearbox that doesn’t have a torque converter.
Im asking cause I’ve never seen an automatic transmission not rev match so I’m a bit confused. It’s not like a manual where you have to blip the throttle to math the revs. I know the “purist” hate the rev match option on a true manual. I’ve never seen an option to turn off rev match in auto.
@@damo514 As @Philippe Etienne mentioned, this is not a conventional automatic transmission. I'm not sure about the engineering, but I do know that it rev matches super fast and it's a lot of fun!
After driving that car for a weekend, I'm very interested in driving the more powerful S version of the car and if it’s like what I think it will be, I will be looking to buy one by summer time.
