The link provided for the scroll saw shows an improved model of saw for $199. that saw has mitre slots (a rarity) and one big advantage, a lever to release tension on the blade instead of the rotating knob like in the video. Amazon has a similar saw by WEN for about $120. It looks like they😀 all come from the same factory in China. Some have more features than others and the cost reflects that. These saw are best using "pinned" blade. Forget using the adapters for non pinned blades as the are nothing but a huge hassle to deal with. If you want to do very small intricate cuts then look for a saw that is set up for pinless blades. If you do lots of outside cuts these saws that use the pinned blades are a breeze to use.

This is amazing info and I appreciate you sharing. I was curious myself why the saw I have, wasn’t available anymore. Thanks mate and cheers

@@SecondSonWoodworks Maybe this is an upgraded version. The saw in the link has a couple of things going for it that are rare on scroll saws. It has a table with miter slots and it has a flex shaft on the side of the saw. (think:::::::like a dremel but on a flexible shaft) for doing the project you do in this video this saw and ones like it a great. I have a similar model and it has performed well over the last 10 years. Nice video, keep up the good work.

Great work! I made two sets of template letters A-Z. Small (6”x6”) and large (12”x12”) out of thin MDF. Took forever but now I just use a guide bearing on my router table and crank these out much faster now. Thanks for taking the time to share your video.

Smart idea! What do you use the letters for? Do you make signs? Thanks for watching and the comment 😎

These letters turned out really well. It occurred to me that you made a good font choice - lots of straight edges and few sharp fiddly curves. My first scroll saw will arrive for Christmas and my first project will involve cutting out letters for the new up-cycling centre for our local community garden (called an allotment site here in Scotland). So, your tips tutorial was very helpful. You have a pleasant, 'easy on the ear' voice. Thanks.

Good video. But I just wanted to point out having the router upside-down and having your finger so close to the router bit is dangerous. I cut myself really badly as the router bit had some kickback and I had 20 stitches on my right thumb and permanent scars. Thank God it did not have to be amputated.

Thanks for watching and the comment! Sorry to hear you got hurt, that is unfortunate. It is definitely dangerous and I will continue to try and be safer! Hope you are doing well now!

Great video! Using your palm router upside down seems a bit unsafe although it was clamped.. Happy woodworking!

Thank you so much. Great info. I am a beginner and need all the help I can get 😅 At about 4 minutes in you are using what looks like a hand held router? What are you doing in that step? I have a router but it is attached to a table. Thank you!

Dewalt Palm router, super handy! Just be safe. In that step I’m using a round over bit on the letter edges. You could do that on your router table too

Very useful but I am cutting letters only 3/4 inch tall. I don't know what blade to use or what speed the machine should be operating. The technique may be applicable but the size difference may require some special attention. Thank you for the video I will be anticipating your next instructional video.
@SecondSonWoodworks
@SecondSonWoodworks Год назад
Thanks for watching! Yes those are quite small, but I think with a thinner blade on the scroll saw, you will have success. Just try out cutting with different speeds on some scrap wood before doing the actual letters. Then take your time and breathe! You got it. Let me know how it goes

Pls what is the best blade size for a scroll saw that’s hard cause my blade keeps breaking
@SecondSonWoodworks
@SecondSonWoodworks 6 месяцев назад
See if you can buy a pack with three different blade options so you can try each of them on the wood you’re cutting

If you want to save ink, why not just print the letters as outlines?
@SecondSonWoodworks
@SecondSonWoodworks 6 месяцев назад
That could work but the font we chose wasn’t outlines

I use carbon paper to transfer the letter shape to the wood. Would take about as long as the taping process. The carbon paper can be reused many many times.
@SecondSonWoodworks
@SecondSonWoodworks 10 месяцев назад
Great idea! How do you use the carbon paper? Do you free hand sketch the letters?
@ericsampson7294
@ericsampson7294 10 месяцев назад
I place it under my letters or design and secure with a couple of pieces of tape. Then I trace the outline with a ballpoint pen. That transfers nicely and allows me to see what I have already traced.

You can also use inkjet transfer method.

Yes for sure
@lindacorvan5177

You mentioned reusing the "L" to save on some ink. To save on ink why don't you just print the outline of the letter instead of filling in the inside of the letter.
@SecondSonWoodworks

The font we chose was filled, but I guess maybe we could have adjusted in word? But not sure

Sometimes I’m irritated by the amount of unnecessary chatter, your chatter was interesting! I’m buying a scroll saw to do things with that I can’t with my band saw. I never thought about turning the router upside down🤔 I need to try that! Thanks for the video

It is 1000% worth it to just buy a decent router table then take the chance and possible major damage to you hands doing the upside down router. Or heck there are easily 100 different videos detailing making your own router table.

Wow, you bought the Shop Fox Scroll saw for $400, you could have bought a Dewalt Scroll saw for the same price. Not only is the Dewalt a much better unit, it also has more capacity.

Zamboni, Zamboni… you are wrong. I paid closer to 200 for the saw, may have said it wrong in the video, but click the link in the description and you will see :) I’m sure dewalt is a good choice though!
