Episode 7 of my SOBO thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail takes me through 150 miles over 8 days. This is the start of the Oregon section of the PCT and I couldn't be more excited about it!
Hiking around Mount Hood and exploring the iconic Timberline Lodge was definitely one of the highlights of this section. Making new SOBO hiker friends is also a HUGE highlight!
I'm faced with my first trail closure and detour around trail, so make sure you stick around until the end of the video to see how I navigate that.

Very fitting that the bird at the start, is an Oregon Junco;

Krysta, I always look forward to your videos, but as a (very clueless) German I just realised how far 25 miles really is! That's 40 freaking kilometers! That's nuts! Seriously, congratulations on that, you are freaking strong, girl!

I always look forward to seeing the new PCT video for the week. I watch them at work during lunch break as a mental health rest.

I live about 40 minutes from Timberline Lodge. Sometimes I drop my daughter off at school and drive up there just to hike a few miles. It never gets old, absolutely beautiful!

Wow, when I came into Shelter Cove NOBO, that tent was packed with people! Crazy to see it that empty. Definetly want to experience the trail SOBO, I bet it is a completely different hike.

Does the PCTA have a way of reaching all of the hikers to warn of fires or other emergencies? Hopefully one of the benefits of registering for the hike gives you timely access to that sort of information. Also pretty neat that in all of your encounters you've met some really nice people and bless those Trail Angels once again!

The PCTA has a dedicated closure page, including when it was updated

Great video, thanks for sharing. I have been wondering if Brian was going to join you for sections, and then a video short popped up on RU-vid and I think I saw him with you. He is a great guy, and I love the videos where you two are hiking together. Can’t wait to see when he joins you.

I did a few deployments with Brian and he really is a nice guy. He was one of those officers that work side-by-side with the enlisted and did every dirty job expected of his subordinates.

Hi, could someone explain the term "Trail Angel" to me? Is it just someone who gives you a ride?
@bonnief.1851
@bonnief.1851 4 месяца назад
Can give you a ride, or the hikers especially like it when they are fed! I do trail magic on the AT near our cabin Maine……leave a food bucket out filled with lots of goodies, another of first aid supplies, etc., and another for their garbage. They love it!

Some trail angels also let you stay in their homes, at least on the PCT. Wrightwood in southern California is especially known for this
