With a new building you can design it how it best meets your needs. Plus already having equipment storage is huge. Either way sounds like a win win to me.

I agree, I think I will think about it over the winter. Once I get all the logs and sawmill and see how much actual lumber I have, I can then start counting the cost.

i just watched a bunch of your videos. Very cool so far. I think you building a new workshop would be awesome. It would also be great content for your future videos. Watching you mill wood, build a new shop, then finish it as a mechanic's shop and organizing it would be great. If you decide to move forward with that plan, I will be watching for sure. Thanks for all your videos.

good video cause you explain things and develope thoughts carefully. Good luck with the mill you're searching for. You might add that type to the info section for all the guys in your 1000 km radius vicinity which would come close to half europe.

That’s a tough question on how to use/build the new/old shops. If you can work it out I would make the new structure just the way you want it. Once it’s done you can enjoy it for a long time. Make it your own. It may cost more up front but it’ll be worth it in the long run.

I enjoyed the conversation. It felt like you are asking your friends for advice but more like you are thinking out loud to organize your thoughts. Sounds like you know what you want to do but need a little convincing. Build it the way you want since you have some great lumber options.

Wes, you mentioned looking for the sawmill. Have you thought of contacting some other current sawmills? There is one in Bagdad and Paris, KY I'm guessing it's a small community and they may know of someone selling their current machine because of retirement or whatever. Just a thought.

OMG Wes, I just priced a new hydo with some bells and whistles and it was at 40k. You could build a steel building with slab for less. New is awasy better but rehab is cheaper. my 2 cents. Stay safe , mi amigo...

You should know me well enough to know that I will not be spending anywhere near 40k, lol. I’m way too cheap

When you say "my wife actually likes that idea", do you mean "my long-suffering wife doesn't hate it as much as the rest of my ideas"?

lol, you know me way too well! She has actually wanted me to tear the barn down since we bought the property and build a new one because it is so poorly constructed, but you know me, I'm a fixer! I can't bring myself not to use it.
@RevereOverland

@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 I do like your barn, even if it's not as nice as the neighbor's. It would make an epic video to completely build one of your own though!

My question is how close to capacity is that lift with the truck on it? Seems to be wobbling around alot when you loosened those bolts. Good thinking getting the kids out there to get a smell of the oil, they will remember that for a while :)
@shaweehillsworkshop4226
@shaweehillsworkshop4226 3 года назад
The weight isn’t the problem, it’s the length. All the weight is at the front and no weight in the back so it wobbles a lot, when I wrench parallel to the truck, I have been putting a jack under the bed to stabilize it.

I can only imagine that you are not using power tools because you want to be heard, or maybe you want plenty of talk time. Lol. Either way...what is that telescopic socket wrench brand? Looks handy!

You can usually tell if I am working to relax or working to get a job done. If I was out trying to get the job done I’m using impacts, etc. When I’m out just relaxing I rarely use power tools. The same goes for woodworking, if I’m out enjoying myself I’m using handplanes, etc. but when I need to build something an am on a timeline it’s all power tools
