I've known for quiet some time that I needed a new chainsaw on the homestead. My husqvarna 55 is a great saw, but it was never intended to cut the size of trees that I have been cutting lately.

Wow just wow. Looks like you got yourself one hot saw. Cut through them logs like butter. My wife and I have made cedar epoxy cookies. She uses them during the holidays for trivets on the dining table. Those oak logs are beautiful.

Wow, that is very impressive! You will make Buckin’ proud. So glad you got a new saw and at some point you can pass it down to your son. God Bless, Daryl

I really struggled with the decision, but after I got it, I realized how good of a purchase it was. Absolutely phenomenal saw!!

Nice! Been considering a new saw. I like Stihl and this was a really helpful review. Alaskan style milling can be rough on your saw. We've had 3 different sawmills over the years- wood mizers and Lucas swing mill. Which, if you've never considered it, those swing mills are a GREAT homestead/urban milling option (especially for the 36-60" + butt logs)👍 -Josh

Alaskan style mills can be rough on your body too, lol. I hope to not do much Alaskan style, just when the logs are too big for my tractor. I love the Lucas swing Mills, and I think if my goal was strictly dimensional lumber, that is the way I go. The biggest reason I have gravitated toward a woodmizer has been for the woodworking aspect of being able to make wide slabs, but I may need to re consider it if I am going to be sawing so many large logs.

Those are both really quality chain saws. I feel that the old husky needs some love though. It’s not reving as high as the Stihl and it’s bogging down way too much. Don’t know if it needs some carb work or maybe some of the valves are not working as the should anymore or possibly the piston and jug are getting worn. These things don’t last forever, but they can be rebuilt and are worth doing.

Agreed, I am going to rebuild the husqvarna soon. It’s 26 years old and just ain’t what she use to be. I have been a little hesitant to adjust the carb much more for fear of pushing her over the edge.

Thats a beast of a saw but you will need one dealing with those huge logs. Like you, I'm surprised you can find those diameter logs in Central KY. But it makes sense, not many people have the equipment to handle ones that big. Stay safe!

definitely not what I expected!

Comparing any brand new 79.2cc pro saw to a 17+ year old home owners 53 cc firewood saw, I'd expect there to be a few performance differences.

For sure. That was kind of the point, to show why I jumped up to a pro saw. My husqvarna is a great saw, but was never intended for what I’m doing now. It was hard to justify buying a $1300 saw but when you see the difference it makes sense.

Btw, my dad bought that husqvarna somewhere around 1994. Talk about getting your moneys worth! II can’t say anything bad about that saw!

That saw is a beast. That fuel injection feature is cool. Fuel tank last a little longer? Better saw mileage?
@shaweehillsworkshop4226
@shaweehillsworkshop4226 3 года назад
I’ve heard it uses more fuel, but so far it’s hard for me to judge. Haven’t used it enough and my sawing habits are so much different now than they use to. But it is an absolute beast for sure!

Hey Wes, I guess you don't want anymore kids after seeing how you start your chain saws...lol I am a Stihl fan and the one you have is a game changer. You should make some trivets with the Shawnee Hills logo and sell them. Put some feet on them and you are done. The Big Guy can help you in that endeavor. Run them through the planner sell them for $10.00. Sell 6000 and you have a brand new mill. Easy peasy...lol Stay safe mi amigo...Btw, if I send your son a BT hat, will it cause issues with the girls?
@shaweehillsworkshop4226
@shaweehillsworkshop4226 3 года назад
I got that taken care of a long time ago, no more kids for me, lol. But seriously, with this wrist brace it’s all I can do to start a chainsaw right now. I don’t like squeezing it between my legs, but I’ll make do. I think the girls will be fine, but I really appreciate you thinking about it.
