and the absurd thing is that other than the pins set in the core to prevent drilling, that takes no more effort than loading a bin with a different part. and some companies won't even do that.

I remember Bosnian bill once making a remark about lpls gorilla grip style of picking being very unusual but highly effective. He must have a really good feel for things to be able to exert such pressure without destroying tools and still being able to feel for counter rotation etc. I'm a hobbyist jeweller and restorer (focusing mainly on old tools) so I also know the struggle of riding that knife edge between just enough and too much force
@herseem
@herseem Год назад
I know that of which you speak. As someone who has been fixing things since I was very young, I understand the relationship between force and success or damage very well. I took my sons to an escape room and the one thing that prevented us getting further was a lock for which I was sure we had the right key, but I was certain that putting more force than I was prepared to put on it would have bent or broken the key. Sure enough, it was the 'correct' key, but the amount of force the operator showed us that was required to open the lock was probably why it was bent already.

@@Lilith-Rose I don't remember the video, but there was a colab that LPL did a while back and the others involved tried to pick a lock or two. @Lilith-Rose
@Lilith-Rose Год назад
@@Fyrefrye yes that's actually something I pay attention to myself when watching him pick, your skin whites out under pressure because the blood that gives it a pinkish colour is squeezed out of the capillaries (there's good first aid technique for checking if blood flow is restricted to a limb or a patient has drastically lowered blood pressure which can indicate internal bleeding, called the capillary refill test, which works because of this phenomenon). Since in the real world most theft is done quickly to avoid being caught or even seen if possible, even a mediocre lock can be enough to convince them to move on to another target. The local signs now say "lock your doors AND hide your valuables" in public parking areas for that reason.

They made the famous nugget opening scissors (rip) and they also make surprisingly decent locks. Good ol Toledo.

Why it's either a mechanically strong lock, with thick shackle and poor pick resistance or a mechanically week lock wit thin shackle and superior pick resistance? Is there some law in the universe that makes those traits mutually exclusive? Like how we can't know for sure both position and velocity of a particle at the same time?

What I find interesting is that this lock, rated a 5, is better than most rated an 8 or 9. But then I remind myself that there is no standard and it's just marketing.

with technology today people dont pick anymore, they use battery powered angle grinders, it only takes seconds with a 1mm cutting wheel to cut a padlock or bike lock, as for doors, a car to ram it open or a crowbar or a battery powered angle grinder to cut around the lock or section of door, or a big bar and lift the bottom of a garage door(the door you drive thru) seconds is all it takes with a battery angle grinder

Could you do a few episodes on like some of the terms you use and what they mean, Like "false set", "click", etc. Kind of like a primer for total noob's?

You know it's gonna be a good video when the title isn't just ripping a new one into the lock.
