Are you suffering from chronic pain? If so, you may be struggling to find any relief. In this video, we're going to discuss some powerful brain retraining techniques that can help you escape chronic pain.
In this video, Dr. Furlan interviews Fiona Symington, a person who lived with chronic pain for 25 years, and found relief through brain retraining techniques. Brain retraining is the 1st step in the book "8 STEPS TO CONQUER CHRONIC PAIN" by Dr. Furlan. You may find my book here:
www.doctorandreafurlan.com/book
Fiona lived with chronic pain for 25 years and M.E/CFS for 14 years before she recovered completely using brain retraining. She now talks about her recovery and the science behind it to both patients and medical professionals. She lives in Oxford, UK and is just completed an MSc in health psychology.
Follow Fiona on Twitter: / fionas_story
Chronic pain is a common problem, and it can be tough to find relief. Fortunately, there are many ways to escape chronic pain with the help of brain retraining techniques. In this video, we'll discuss the different ways that brain retraining can help you escape chronic pain. We'll also discuss the importance of meditation, visualization and journaling in brain retraining. Finally, we'll give you some tips on how to start brain retraining for the relief of your chronic pain!
Dr. Furlan is a pain specialist in Toronto Canada. She is a physiatrist (specialist in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation). She holds a medical degree from the University of Sao Paulo and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto. She has 30 years of experience helping people with chronic pain to get better quality of life.

Hi Dr Furlan. This video is so positive. Gives hope to so many people. Years ago when I was confined to the bed with R.A. I used visualisation as one of my aids in getting myself mobile again. I believed in the body's ability to heal and recover and I slowly built up strength in my legs primarily so I could walk. And then i worked on building strength in the rest of the body . Progress was slow but I didn't give up. I believed I would get there. Which I did. Through my life journey I have taken many knocks which have had a negative effect on my health but by using visualisation, self believe, exercise, healthy diet I eventually recover. I use moderate exercise to reduce my pain and keep inflammation down. I try to think positively rather than negatively. Our thoughts affect our bodies. I do spend a lot of time in nature. I find it helps my brain. Also hanging out with positive people is great. Thank you Dr Furlan for posting this video . 💚☘️

Hi Dr. Furlan! I want to thank you for posting this video. It completely changed my mindset. Before, I had already given up, and was grieving for the painless life I would never be able to have. Thanks to this video, I’m more than ready to take that leap of faith and reprogram my brain!

Hi Dr Furtan, great videos. I started with brain retraining in April. I have a combination of neuroplastic pain and structural pain. I have done several courses in TMS, PRT but also had 2 neck surgeries that have not produced the expected results. One thing I have learned is that my pain definitely increases if my anxiety increases.

Training your brain to calm down one’s overly sensitized nervous system….makes a lot of sense! Any way we can suppress the incessant Fight or flight response will help one’s body tremendously, not just with pain, but an overall sense of well being, better sleep, with renewed energy.

My brain is loving being retrained to not have thoughts of fear and control and I have ongoing joy for the future. I watched the video as soon as it came out and have been listening to Curable all week applying what I am learning. Solidarity with all those retraining your brain thoughts. Thank you again.

I also have severe bilateral formaninal stenosis at C6/C7. Can I use these techniques for pain reduction despite my conditions? My doctors here in Melbourne AU haven't got a clue about my pain and are just throwing pain drugs at me. Thank you.

Haven't tried brain training, but have tried yoga, meditating, breathing exercises, etc. But what if the hardware problem can't be replaced like spinal injuries. Degenerative disc disease, multiple prolapsed discs, scoliosis, etc. No surgery options available and the chronic pain lasting for decades, is brain training still a successful technique to beat or overcome a hardware induced software problem?

Nociplastic and neuplastic are synonymous. They both are pain generated by plasticity in synapses. Nerve pain is different, it is neuropathic pain and it is generated by lesion, damage or disease of the peripheral or central nerve system. Does brain training work with pain caused by arthritis?
@Adventures2024-AD
@Adventures2024-AD 9 месяцев назад
I have RA and nodules/lump on my thumb that is painful. I am answering from my experience. To me the pain sensation is a message that something is not right/or injured. The vagus nerve runs through our entire body and communicates with the brain. I am learning to “calibrate” my “sensor”. In other words like Dr Furlan used the example of computer hardware vs software and Fiona stated a good indicator is if the pain changes. The physical nodule/growth on my thumb gives me pain when I overuse it. However, before brain training aka meditating etc my thumb pained me constantly along with ALL the joints in the other fingers. Now I only have pain localized to the hardware damage IF I over use it. Hope that helps you❤

nociplastic pain is caused by biochemical changes in the pain pathways. So, the way to revert it is with brain retraining, which involves mind-body exercises
