In this video I show in detail how to remove a valve cover, change the camshaft sensors and the vvt solenoid/actuators. I also replace the throttle body on this vehicle. The customer ran the vehicle low of oil and created a few different problems. The vehicle in the video is a 2016 Chevy Cruze with the ECOTECH 1.4L Turbocharged engine.
Guy’s help me get to 20k subscribers! I have so many awesome videos coming.

Thank you Terence. I’m far from a mechanic and can’t diagnose a problem for shit. But by golly I love tools and I can change parts all day long with a little guidance! You did great explaining everything so perfectly we didn’t even need that “special” injector tool. It’s called a pry bar baby! Anyhow, I can’t thank you enough. For my sake please post every repair you make to that 16 Cruze please. You the man 🤙🏼

THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!! This is EXACTLY what's wrong with my 2019 Equinox. I let someone talk me into not changing the oil on time because they didn't want me to do it myself. Someone reset my oil life sensor when I had my tires serviced. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Oil issues will mess this engine up BADLY.

I watched this video and you helped me fix a huge headache I have had for a couple months now!!! It was my 2005 scion tc, in which I found out all along it was the camshaft position sensor, in which it is mounted on top left of the valve cover, right in my face all this time, and I don't know why I refused to check it, but I done everything else from cleaning maff sensor, to cleaning throttle body, to changing fuel pump and everything else I could think of!!! As soon as I pulled the plug off the sensor I found the issue.... One of the wires was halfway out the plug connector with harness wrap from the factory hiding the fact!!! Pushed the wire back into the connector after using a very small flathead screwdriver by bending the little catch thing on the wire connector that holds the wire inside the plug!!! I plugged it back up and immediately started the engine and now it's fixed!!! Apparently the factory did this by mistake when it was put together, and all this time from the engine compartment going from cold to hot would make the wiring harness more flexible over time and the wire was intermittently making and loosing connection!!!!

Replacing the PCV cover on my 2013 Cruze was easy. I've got a vacuum leak coming from the pcv cover on my 2020 Malibu, and the vacuum test showed it was coming from the black circle seal. I thought it would be simple to remove, but looks like it's time consuming and tedious. I'll have my mechanic take care of it.

2nd gen Cruze 2017/2016 I have been looking for an air leak for two years!!!! …. hissing sound loss of power and it would die when I stopped at a light, It was the inter cooler intake hose!!!! A hole developed because of rubbing from a belt on the bottom of the engine jacked up the car and finally found it!!! I taped it up and hissing stopped and power returned!!!! Thought it was the pcv but it wasn’t!! Hope this helped someone!

I have 1.4T that smokes like no tommorrow on idle. Cleaned injectors inside and out, new plugs, coils. Cleaned MAF, filters, oils etc usual stuff. Also replaced the two external PCV valves. Runs great (especially after clening the gunky injectors) and has plenty of power and doesn't eat oil. City MPG on the bit poorer side, can't figure out whats causing it to smoke so much. I read there's a PCV orifice built in the valve cover that goes to the intake manifold - it could be blocked but even then the excess pressure should be venting thru the other PCV valves...
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY Год назад
Sounds like bad rings or worn valve seals. Most likely is the latter. How many miles?
@omiq7761
@omiq7761 Год назад
@@TerenceDIY thanks. Around 60k miles. Whatabout turbo seals? Tho the smoke is white/grey and smells more like gasoline than oil.
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY Год назад
@@omiq7761 , that's very low miles for the valve seals to be bad unless the engine was ran hard. The turbo can also cause your condition. You need to check the seals thouroughly or replace them. If you're smelling gas and not oil or a sweet smell that would be caused by a head gasket, I would definitely check into the turbo. I have seen faulty turbos cause that same smoking issue despite working properly.

Hello, first off, thanks for the informative video. I know this video is a couple years old at this point but I am hoping you may still see the comments and respond. At 16:29, could you possibly explain how you disconnect that? It looks like you've just got a small flat head but I can't tell exactly what you've done to release the hose. It doesn't look overly complicated but I was hoping for some clarification before I got to work on this job. Valve cover gasket is done for on my gen 2 Cruze, and the cheapest quote I can get around me is 750 dollars and that guy can't work on it for another month... or I can spend 900 to get it done now. I figured I would look to find a video (like yours) but jeez it took forever to actually find one. Tons of videos on the gen 1 Cruze but hardly anything on the newer models so I appreciate it.
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 6 месяцев назад
Yep, I used a small flat head screw driver to release that hose (pretty straight forward). I should have gotten a more closer shot on that part as I try to make my videos of the highest quality. I apologize for that. Also, you are correct, this is probably the most detail video regarding the motor of the Gen 2 Cruze on RU-vid as well as the other videos I have on this particular vehicle.

Should I now be looking at possibly changing the exhaust camshaft or maybe try something before that. Any assistane is appreciated please. It looks like you removed the bolt for the injectors so only the rail was removed. But, then it later appeared like the entire injectors came out with the rail. Did you remove the 2 torx bolts after all? Also, I know Chevroleet really cautions about removing the rail carefully using their very special removal tool ($$$). Any issues with the rail sealing after using the pry bar method?

You said something about a tap approved bolt?
@TerenceDIY
@TerenceDIY 2 года назад
Earl, you can ask as many questions as you like. I'm not surprised that oil is leaking around that vacuum pump. The gasket requires replacement whenever that vacuum pump is removed. I just got lucky with this particular job, but not so lucky in the past. You're going to need to replace that o-ring style gasket on the cover (fairly easy). Also, the tamper proof bolts can be removed easily with some needle nose vice grips. You should be able to remove them with a set of regular vice grips as well. I have removed many of them. Once you remove them, you can replace that line. Just use some locktite when you reinstall the bolts. Is there anyway you can wrap the hose with some electrical tape? That will temporarily fix the problem until you're ready to fix it (I've done this quite a few times as well). It will actually hold of for a while. Let me know.

@@TheRealBlacHood , yes you will have to remove the valve cover as I did in the video. Once you move the reluctor back in position, it should be fine.

I am finally getting this thing back together after finding that Brake vacuum pump.. GM has a class action lawsuit for them.. I am happy you was up close and personal with everything, I could not remember where some of the bolts went, had someone helping me and well we got them mixed up and the markers came off.. happens.... but i am almost done, get all the electrical back up... got oil to change and add coolant.. but man this was a hell of a job, i dont want to do again for awhile.

@@Avation.Experience , this video shows you in detail how to replace the vacuum pump although It shows many more elements. The Chevy dealership job is to be over the top. All you need to do is replace the vacuum pump. The vacuum pump breaking into pieces at the shaft is pretty common. All you need to do is remove the broken pieces that's inside of the valve cover and you're good. It's a fairly easy job. You don't have to remove the valve cover if you don't want to. Here's a link to a new vacuum pump. www.ebay.com/itm/295090326366?fits=Year%3A2016%7CModel%3ACruze%7CMake%3AChevrolet&hash=item44b4c10b5e:g:A2YAAOSw6XtizYOt&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8CxsLJ2%2BnIrfAVmv5f%2BDlXJ8VaRaKVwB6hZhmsbpit%2FUxlgobl0uLIE0%2FGdypXSe%2FBgJUm3ldpZJ2RS6Tf6s2sgegqJTVo1Kyjbmwu%2FCupdm%2BBrkaVw3Yz%2Bv9EeZJOJOZ1HGkcdx9a2LfcjP%2Fi8D694bXhKqV7XNiW%2FaXCFi3muocGAPyMT%2F3AUExjV2yBIqmO%2BiciqTSWunxj7hjdr55et3AIpP9hdT6jj7fuCuA0ziYkG5tHgJEjMxECs9X5F8R8NIhTkWXX3vQOreMFxoFo6XVcIkPGne296K4PiAr84QOGdtDLeC2I9VkU%2BAWlvP9A%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMrs_Rr5Bh

Oh, that's a tamper proof bolt. It requires a special tool however, if you have some needle nose vice grips, they will work great!

@@TerenceDIY okay nice! I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox with an check engine light on. I’ve replaced the VVT Solenoids and one of the Camshaft position sensors but my car has trouble starting on the first try also I’m having to drive it in manual mode because if I hear it in drive and auto stop kicks in sometimes my car won’t crank back up.
