By popular demand, I am extending my series teaching gross motor skills for babies. Little sweet Charis' family has offered to let me videotape her learning new movement skills. I hope these videos can be helpful for families around the world trying to help their babies and children. Ethically I am unable to provide treatment suggestions for a child I have not personally evaluated. I recommend that if you have serious concerns about your child's development that you seek a local pediatric physical therapist. You can contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com with generic questions. My books: "A is for Autism", "D is for Down Syndrome", and "C is for Cerebral Palsy" are available on Amazon.

Love this video. I was worried it wasn't normal to have the leg tucked in when kneeling but I can see my child is actually so close to standing up.

So funny, some people have to be okay with letting their little ones cry and get frustrated in order to have progress. Myself included, if i did not have my mom with us for our first child she would not have progressed as fast as she did. Now with our son, i have forgotten everything!! 🤦

How would you encourage baby to hold on and not let go?
@pediatricPTexercises
@pediatricPTexercises 4 года назад
Well, usually it is instinctual for a child to hold on. When it is not then I will working on grip skills. This usually means that a child has to hold on for something fun to happen. So I might have her hold my hands for me to be able to pull her in a swing she’s been strapped into or to go in a buggy that she is strapped into. If the child is good at holding onto my fingers then I’ll often switch it out to a hoop or a stick. I hope that helps.

How do you know when babies are ready to learn to stand up. My daughter is 11 months old and only wants to butt scoot she does not want to try to crawl so im just not sure when to start practicing standing up with her because she is not showing that she wants to

Well clearly I cannot speak to your specific child. However, I work on standing often before a child can sit. I provide appropriate support, but I work on the precursors to standing independently very early. Here is my standing playlist that might give you some suggestions. ru-vid.com/group/PLAkJbMrHyKjM1llP4H__xPvtRv2S2ZvFz

I am sorry to hear that. Unfortunately it is considered an ethical for me to provide treatment recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated. I have a playlist of general recommendations to encourage gross motor development. Hopefully some of the videos in the sequence will be of help to you. ru-vid.com/group/PLAkJbMrHyKjMcjSrjzO6-5Hj2EKj20pQD

This is the least helpful video ever. 😅 I learned nothing to help my 12 months old to stand. The baby obviously already knew how to do it. I really don't mean to be rude, I just want to help my son but I can't.
