Then when you see them or get close to them, your mind is messed up, because all the hype was in your brain and now that it's in person, you're trying to compute it in real time. Hence the "glow effect". The opposite is true of people you don't care for, they're not pushed in story lines, clips, etc.. if you met them you're like "okay, cool you're Jim Michaels" or whoever, no big deal. It's the degree of the push they get on the media that affects the reaction you would get in person. You meet your idols, your mind is gonna be your own hype man.
