16-year-old’s food truck stirs up drama after opening across from Montgomery Steak Houston 

It's wrong for people to use the other restaurants facilities when they aren't paying customers. I can understand his frustrations.

Seems to me like it's not either one of the business owners fault. It's the disrespectful customers that have no respect for people's property but then again what's new.

It's great that there's a community group that actually gets people together to amend their differences, before it gets dangerous for either party or ends up in the horrendous legal system.

I understand the steakhouse owners frustration over people using his facilities and parking spots. I'm behind him 100% in that regard. As for the young hot dog stand owner, I commend him for his astuteness and maturity. I'm glad both owners were able to work it out and I hope it stays that way. God bless.

No disrespect to the sixteen-year-old I respect his Hustle No Doubt and I think it's great that he's trying to keep his grandfather's Legacy alive however when you park your food truck across from an establishment that's been there for over 20 years you should expect some competition and you should expect people to complain especially the owner when your customers are leaving a mess in his parking lot and parking in his parking

As a former food truck owner . I would never set up that close to a brick and mortar establishment in the first place . Not because of competition but out of respect for the other business. In Phoenix we had certain places to set up in none restaurant areas unless it was a special event planned . Create your own space

They shouldn’t be using the business bathroom and parking lot when buying at the mobile restaurant. That is just absolutely wrong.

I’m all for a sixteen year old taking over his grandfather’s business. I started a company in high school myself. That being said, there are no freebies in life. If you are going to make it is business. You must learn to toughen up, and take the blows as they come. One of blessings that come out business ownership, it forces you to grow up or get run over by your competitors.

I'm w the steakhouse on this one. Love the fact that the kid is a hard worker but you really need to respect others, even in business sometimes.

I respect the kids hustle but the other business owner has legitimate concerns regarding the parking lot and restrooms. Glad that people decided to try to mend the situation rather than stoking the flames. I hope both businesses are able to move forward in good faith efforts to provide for the community and their own families.

I am glad you covered both sides, because at first I thought the store owner was being a jerk, but after hearing his side... he makes some very valid points. Parking, trash, and more he may have to clean up, using his bathrooms? Come on. The kid needs to move away from that location and park near stores without a restraunt in the same perimeter.

Parking in front of a restaurant to sell food is a bold and competitive move in the first place. I think when the kid calls the restaurant owner "petty", it showed disregard for his own actions. I can't imagine that was the only space for him to park his food truck.

What I like here is that both had valid issues but love that a third party stepped in to help support both businesses resolve differences. That is a great way to help avoid conflict truly commendable

I fully understand the frustration of the restaurant owner. The food truck's customers park in the restaurant parking lot, preventing the restauranteur's customers from parking and thus choking off his business, dump their garbage there, use his restroom, and then run off and bad mouth him. I appreciate the kid's entrepreneurial chops, but free riding off the restauranteur's investment and costs . . . well, hero is not the word that comes to mind. And what's wrong with the restauranteur offering $1.50 hotdogs and free ice cream? It's called pushing back.

In my city, food trucks aren’t allowed within a certain distance from any restaurant establishment.

i absolutely sympathise with the store owner. setting up essentially on his property and undercutting his business is wrong.

“The only thing you can do with something petty like that is smile” the teenager responded about restaurant manager complaint when teenager’s customers throw trash onto his property and makes a mess for him to clean up. This teenager needs to learn common decency and be forced to move his truck.

The Kid is Doing good running his own Business, but he got to Respect his Neighboring Business. Clean after your Customers and give the other business owner some space.

Honestly tho... if i was the restaurant owner id be a little annoyed too. He suddenly pops up one day, gets a bunch of customers, fills up the parking closest to your restaurant, uses your bathroom, and trash is being thrown near your place because of the litterbugs. Id be so sad if my business started slowing down from that especially with rising rent/lease costs

A teaching lesson for the kid and his customers, RESPECT. The restaurant owner survived covid (having to close during) pays WAY more rent and taxes. The kid must make it clear to his customers to not park or try to use the restaurant's facilities.

Why did he choose to put the food truck so close to the restaurant? If he was across the highway in the other parking lot, that’s perfectly fine. The young man needs to respect the owner of the other restaurant. How would he like it if another food truck opened up next to his?

If your customer is using the other restaurant's restroom without permission and causing surrounding businesses problem, it has nothing to do with pettiness. Your customers are disrupting their business!

Such hypocrisy, the restaurant owner saying "he needs to know lifes not fair." While simultaneously complaining about how it's not fair that the hotdog truck is operating across the street. Honestly there’s nothing wrong here, y’all are just rooting for the hot dog stand because he’s 16. If you want to be in the food industry then you’ll have to get over it because you will have competition. It’s not pettiness. What that kid needs to do is show some respect and ask his customers to not park in his lot and what the restaurant owner needs to do is to put up a sign and tow their trucks if it’s that big of a deal to him.

The news forgot to mention that he parks along with other food trucks in a food truck parking lot that happens to be across from the steak house. They made it sound like he just decided to randomly park across from a steak house in a vacant lot.

I really respect ALL restaurant owners. It's a tough tough business. The restaurant demands all your attention, all your hours, all the risk of a HUGE investment, LOTS of overhead, LOTS of drama with employees. It takes a really special breed of people to do it. I could never do it, and have never bothered trying. As I have aged my appreciation grows for everything that goes into operating a business, especially a restaurant. Every young person should try opening any business just to get an appreciation for what it takes. That way, you would be a little more understanding, and perhaps grateful, when you find a good employer.

This is a great story. I’m glad it was covered I’m also glad they interview both sides. The steakhouse owner was getting a bad wrap. He was able to tell his side which was very valid. Not only were the other businesses customers trying to use his bathroom but were also taking up parking spaces for his customers.

I ran a restaurant for 32 years. The city allowed a food truck to set up right in front of me. Same situation, the food truck customers took up the parking lot spots that we paid for causing our customers to be upset because they had no where to park. I couldn’t tow the food truck customers without ensuring they would never come eat at my place. They also used our restrooms, left garbage in our parking lot. Hard to do anything about it without becoming the “bad guy”. They competed with us directly but without having any of the overhead that a brick and mortar business has. Food trucks can actually cause traditional sit down restaurants to go out of business if allowed to operate in the same space therefore leaving people only food trucks to dine at. You may be out of luck if you want to go dine inside a restaurant and have waiters, etc. there is a place for food trucks but it should not be in the same space as brick and mortar restaurants because obviously the operating costs is much, much less for a food truck and can drive traditional restaurants to close.

It's very important to assist and support young people that want to work and succeed. It's also important to teach them that once their effort is under way there are sophistications in doing business. Rules, laws, respectful treatment of people.

when story first started, i was like why would hotdog truck be bothering a steak joint, but when steak place owner talking about folks using up his parking places and using his toilet and he having to clean up mess left behind, i can understand how the drama got started, looks like they both relaxed, i hope it works out for both. now i have a hunger for steak and good hot dog, lol

"They're making out to be the bad guy" yeah that's what happens when you do something with the specific intent to make life harder for a kid who just opened a business. You ARE the bad guy.

This what America represents the willingness to come to the table to talk about the problem they have and working it out so everybody is happy and can continue with the businesses they have created to make a living off of. Business is business! If the kid starts a business in the restaurant's front yard, they have every right to turn up the competition.

My family have owned multiple businesses and when pop ups happened, I recalled my parents used to get very frustrated. I never ran a store myself so I won't share my opinions, but I'm sure business owners who pay massive rent for a store front, CAM expenses, monthly parking fees for both employee and customer spaces, multiple insurances, plus labor to run a business will bring out that frustration. My parents were always able to overcome these situations by becoming more competitive, so I think it also brought out the best in them to stay alive.

It's great that he started his own business but let's be clear, it's a business. And part of owning a business is planning for things like parking, restrooms, trash, etc. It's not the responsibility of another business to manage your customers. Totally side with the owner of the restaurant on this one. (and the fact that he commented about the owner being petty shows his immaturity). Imagine if your neighbors had a party and their guests just left trash in your yard. Same concept.

I like the way this young man handled this situation and his way of thinking. His parents raised him well, im sure grandpa will be proud of him. The owner of the stake house was also right too. In the end I'm glad Allen stepped in and did the right thing. They both should be supported. Great ending.

I deal with this at my business. I never have any parking for my customer because the Restaurant next door have their customers park in our parking lot. The only thing that worked was to have the vehicles towed. Of course, the landlord helped us by putting signs up. But it sucks it had to come to that.

Imagine you invested $100s of thousands of dollars in a restaurant, maintain it, a parking lot, follow all regulations, licenses, property taxes etc and then some kid just pulls up in a caravan and starts selling food in front of your restaurant. I’d be pissed too.

Correction, it's not the owners of the restaurant/food truck that created the drama, it's the people (customers) behind them that created the drama. Customers always love drama cause without it there's no excitement.

The owner of the restaurant does have some valid points with the parking, garbage and restrooms. Glad they worked it out.

It's amazing how easily resolve is achieved with kindness and respect.

The Food Truck is mobile , so just find another nice place to open shop where there is No Food Shops around to compete! 💖🕊
