Me and my partner have gone from being morbidly obese to running our own local personal training business in the UK over the last six years. I still have arguments within the fitness industry about Resistance training being better than cardio for weight loss. I've only found this podcast fairly recently and nice to listen to you guys who have been in the business for a while backing up pretty much everything I've been saying.

You guys have have given me so much knowledge this last year from finding the channel beginning of 2021, I've made the best gains going through programs likes aesthetics and hitting powerlifting currently. Always thought about being a trainer since I graduated high school because I have a strong passion for fitness and health, and as a young 22 year old still lost on what to do to make a living you guys gave me the game and motivation to get my certification and now I'm training a few family members and friends while also looking for a big box gym to get more experience. I use the info from your podcast on myself and others and have seen nothing but great results, a lot of the mistakes you guys bring up help us young trainers not repeat them and it helps evolve the fitness game. Thank you for all this info you guys give out for free its bettering lives every day! I would use maps resistance and everything else you giving away to further my knowledge and fitness and become a smart but bad ass trainer lol! Hope the MindPump fam had a great and healthy Christmas, and once again thank you guys!!!!

I have been working diligently on my career to became a CPA (almost there😅) and yet listening to you guys this year has had me strongly considering somewhat ditching that career right after obtaining my qualification and becoming a personal trainer instead. I've enjoyed advocating your message to the mostly women around me who are slaves to restrictive dieting and excessive cardio training. I once thought of personal training as a vain and heavily aesthetically driven career option but my view on that has drastically evolved in the current year while listening to this channel. Resistance training, moving frequently, eating healthier, mobility training - these elements are my lifeline! Aesthetics are for the most part an afterthought now...

Hi guys absolutely love your content. Watching you for some time now and this incredible how much knowledge I’m getting for free 🙏 I would love to hear some more stuff about reverse dieting . I’ve been trying different diets but always keeping my calories to low and with my last cut which took way too long I’ve crashed my metabolism. Now I’m struggling with building it up. Every time I’m bumping my calories up I’m ending up with putting weight in the wrong places. Really appreciate some more information about this thank you

13:50 As far as individualization in programming goes, I get individualizing based on your clients factor such as age, medical history, mobility limitations, but pass those, if a client doesn’t have a specific goal adaptation, for example, strength, stability, mobility, do you just choose one based on what you think they need the most? That’s what I’ve been doing with my clients and that seems the most obvious answer, but giving us some examples of aspects to individualize programming with for a variety of different types of clients may be useful! Thanks

I'm paused on point number 2-training too hard. I"m on my third trainer. The first was at Bally's in 2003, so she was a typical big box gym trainer. She was included in my membership, just hopped from machine to machine, didn't give me a plan or seem to have an overarching approach, 30 sec to one minute rest, taught me that I should always do 8 reps, 3 sets of everything, used isolation machines, some were repeats, others were new. She was just walking around going here do this here do this. There was no, "work on this all week and let's see your progress on it next week" or I'm going to teach you the machines and eventually cover all of them. Then in June of this year 2021, I had been working out and wanted to tweak things and have my form checked. It took me a while to find a trainer because I wanted bands and calisthenics, not machines or even weights and I wanted single sessions not a package or schedule. I found two women at the same time and worked with one of them. $100. I knew when I finished by first session that I was going to keep looking and probably try that other woman I had found. She worked me too hard and I didn't like her personality. I booked the other girl, but something came up. In the meanwhile the other girl posted herself working with a trainer who is a calisthenics specialist. I bought one of his programs. I worked with him once and I'm scheduled to work with him again. I am considering him my trainer. His channel is BarNaturals, btw. I recently found out he has been watching Mind Pump for years. I found them from Miss FitAndNerdy a few months ago. I may still work with the other woman if I want to work on cardio or mobility (I don't want to be stretching that much with a guy trainer, seems like that could get awkward, especially since I know I need to work on hip and glute flexibility and mobility.....) Anyway, knowing my trainer is also a fan of Mind Pump, now I know I'm in good hands.

This podcast gives so much value! I’m a volleyball player trying to get back on the court. My knee has been bothering me so I’m taking a break. My new goal is to build muscle so I’m currently on MAP ANABOLIC. Which programs should I do after MAPS Anabolic? I was thinking strong, then performance. My 2nd question is… can I go through MAPS anabolic again after my bulk to cut or do you recommend another program?

Yea, I luckily don't make any of these mistakes. Most expect me to train them like I workout. I explain to them is I build people up to train like me but that take 6-12 months of training. My clients tend to double or triple their strength with in the first 2-3 months with proper programming and progression. Such as going from 8 pullups to 35lbs by 5 weighted pullups in 10 weeks and rowing 75x9 max to doing 210lbs by 12 reps. I start at 3 sets of 15 and increase weekly until they can't go up and than I'll do 12 reps and the following week 15 and eventually that will stop and I'll take a 15,12,8(rest)8,12,15 reps for most exercises and than the next step from that is drop sets and than eventually supersets and I always keep in core exercises and slowly add in new exercises as they progress such as 21s.

Awesome topic today. Allighns with my question guys. First of all I'm a Certified Recovery Mentor in the state of Oregon. What that means is I help mentor addicts in recovery with resources to help them succeed. I am also a recovering addict over 2 years sober now. I believe that getting our strength back through exercise has played an important role in my personal recovery. I love helping people that struggle with sobriety. I would also like to become a personal trainer. I'm 45 years old. Do you think that is to old to get started? My wife is 10 years younger and has the same goal. Thanks for your time and great content.

Oh man, as someone who works as a coach of sorts (not fitness), I struggled with the story about the lady who basically didn't want to do anything except come in once a week. Honestly, I expect the people I work with to be realistic about their results and the time it will require, so I think I would have refused to work with her. No changes to diet and working out just once a week, what can you expect from that? I understand the idea of introducing changes gradually but, wow, I struggle tolerating people who aren't committed to change and aren't ready to work hard from the start.

ok wow I feel like this episode was directed at me. I'm a personal trainer and am so guilty of a lot of these things. Although I feel embarrassed and super behind, I'm also glad I'm not alone in this considering this is my second year being a personal trainer.

I used to pride myself on training so hard and brutally that I'd literally have to crawl down the gym stairs to the exit, vomit and have to get a taxi home as I would be physically unable to drive. I would literally be bedridden the next day, and have to get taxi to work and back. I was a tom platz devotee which probably didn't help.

5 years! My trainer is 3 years :/ As a tutor how students perform is the only good result. I can push, make it grueling, I can be condescending, I can say it's them not me but in the end my job is to them have success. If they don't succeed I don't. Hopefully it doesn't take 5 years to figure that out.
