Thanks I gotta try this. Your glaze is thinner than our studio usually mixes it, but I might thin our glaze and give it a try.

great way to practice is use glass mason jars, then you can see everything that is happening inside the mug

Thank you for this! I've tried this technique before and it was hit or miss. You helped me figure out that I may have been pulling it above the surface to quickly instead of leaving it slightly submerged when it's "shocked" up :)

I saw someone do that technique, but it was so quick, I didn't understand it. How kind of you to repeat the process over and over again so it made sense. Thank you so much. Does it work for vases? Those are some beautiful mugs!
@hsinchuen

This technique is better for straight wall and not too deep. Bowls are a bit harder. Usually you want to pour in for the vases.

My Ceramics teacher Jin Yoshida teaches us this method for all of our stoneware pieces. But he teaches us a different technique for our porcelain pieces where we are able to glaze the sides and inside of our foots.

Hi Hsin... do you have any problems with the mugs egging( out of roundness) when you fire with the handles put on? I have seen a process where you slighty egg the rim before you fire... Also you fire you piece first to bisque then glaze? thanks for your videos..
@hsinchuen
@hsinchuen 8 лет назад
Yes, I bisque first. The mugs turn oval are caused by the handles's gravity pulling the rims or the firing temp is hire than the clay maturing temp.
