Nothing beats a briskly paced round of golf, so I try to bring that pace to a video of a recent round of 18 holes at Salem Golf Club in Salem, Oregon. Every shot of an 18 hole round in about 11 minutes.
My golf goal for 2023 is to have an average score in the 80's on my home course. I started out the year at just over 90 and briefly had my average below 90. But the last two months have seen some pretty serious golf score deterioration, and that's with improving weather and course conditions.
While my practice sessions and continuous drill work has been showing up consistently at the range and a little more often in non-recorded rounds, I've yet to capture me playing at my best on video. So, I'll just keep on grinding away on the game and recording my "progress."
Thank you for watching.

For a second I thought I was watching myself play. And what a classic line... "but then there's this, followed by this". I'm thinking how does this guy know my game! What a fun video and your commentary was excellent. The scenery was beautiful. Great job. TY

Thank you, Frank! “But then there’s this” is really the heart of my game.

Enjoyed the video Mike. Even though it feels a bit weird watching a lefty. Keep going! 🙂

Honestly, I feel if you'd punch out when you get into trouble, you could prob save 5 shots a round. It's a hard thing to learn, but when you start taking your medicine, you'd be shocked at how much better you play. We see the pros make "hero" shots a lot. We just aren't that good. lol. Keep hacking away and playing fast! I love to see another fast walker on the course!

Thanks, Derek. The truth is that I punch out a lot, but when I have rounds where my swing gets exceptionally steep (like this round) it becomes really difficult to hit that low trajectory punch and everything sort of jumps straight up off the face with lots of spin. What's funny to me is that I actually scripted this video initially to be a study on shot intention versus shot result. Sounds like that might be worth trying on a future video. Thanks for watching!

Great video! I only just noticed you swing lefty but putt right. Have you always played like that? I contemplated putting lefty so I wouldn't be overly dominant with my right hand...but too awkward for me haha.

Thanks, Andy! I haven't always golfed lefthanded. I've only been really into golfing for the last 5 years or so, but prior to that I was a very casual golfer (maybe 2-3 rounds and 1 range session per year). As a casual golfer I started with a right handed set and played even worse than I am now. My father-in-law had an old 2 iron lefty blade sitting in his garage and I tried it at the range and flushed the first shot. It's hard to describe, but I felt my brain was more connected to my body and what it was doing in that first lefty swing than it ever did playing right-handed, so I stuck with it from there out, playing casually as a lefty until around 2018 when I started really playing a lot more and practicing.

I also hate trying to swing soft on a club, I typically come up way short. I'm trying to club down and swing harder. Golf is a roller-coaster don't beat yourself up! 💪 how do you clip your tracers through the trees to show better depth?

Not that my full/hard swings always work out, but they generally produce better results. I the ShotTracer Pro desktop version, which has a masking feature that allows me to mask portions of the line to account for depth of field. It's not perfect, and it's not an automatic feature (you have to manually apply the mask to objects), but it is a cool effect that not every golf YT'er is using.

Honestly - try to be nicer to yourself. Golf is a hard game as it is so self-criticism doesn't make it any easier. If you are able to focus on being grateful for being outside on a beautiful property on a nice day you'll find the scores come down and you're less in your own head about shots.

Arun, I couldn't agree more. If my videos make it look like I'm hard on myself, then I'm not doing a good enough job reflecting how I approach the game mentally. Also, a lot of the negativity in the narration is for effect. You basically nailed my perspective on rounds like this; I'm out enjoying a beautiful place with my wife and family, having a great time soaking up the sunshine. Do I get disappointed when I hit a bad shot? Sure, sometimes. But I'm usually pretty quick to move on because my greatest shot ever could be next! Thanks for watching.
