Jacob.. this is Aeric.. I met you the other night on your live feed with the stripper (Did you just call her that lmao 🤣).. anyway man.. I have an office I just bought in Vegas.. I will be moving out to Vegas soon.. I’m a creator also but I do it just for fun.. my family is in clothing and design. I will be doing my live stream sometime, we should meet during both live streams.. or we should hit the club or coffee or something. Talk to you later.. Aeric
I was robbed of my fun by the staff at TI literally stole 1000 dollars from our room while we were in the room. I’ve tried to get it back and been shut down. It was 100% this lady and we have proof but I live in Ireland and it’s impossible to get in contact. They are ignoring my emails now
Valid concerns Jacob brought up, IMHO: Broken escalators, occasionally the crazy homeless people, quality of food on the strip has definitely gone down. Which concerns seem like nonsense to me: No buffets (Good!), Taxi long haul ( Take buses or Uber/Lyft ), card handing out people ( Run into them on the sidwalk: nothing they can do about it if they are in your way.), driving congestion ( Do not drive in LV) , photo bombing people on the sidewalk ( I would not be taking pictures there anyways. )
Back home back in the day we used the cheap powered laundry soap. Now a days the kids just throw in a couple tide pods….I won’t do it now but wouldn’t mind seeing it😏
I admire your honesty in dealing with the real issues in Vegas. I think the problem will always be the very nature of Vegas itself, from drinking to gambling - they are all vices that many people simply let get out of control. It's like trying to enjoy a walk in the forest with everyone playing with fire to some degree, you hope no one burns the forest down but most likely someone is always trying.
I've been coming to Vegas since 1995. My 3 biggest pet peeves since then are 1) change in gambling odds, 2) resort fees, 3) increased amount of vagrancy.
My last trip to vegas was in 97, went with a friend and his dad (we were 15) his dad lost everything and even pawned the car we drove there..lol.. we went from ballin & cruisin to broke & homeless in less than a week.. his grandma drove like 11 hrs to give us a ride home.. never did see his dads car again🤭
Vegas was so much better when the Mob ran it. The Mob realized to attract Tourists, keep the prices low and the quality high. Crimes was less because the Mob didn't play.
Stay away from Rhumbar at Mirage if you want to keep your good streak of customer service going. Rhumbar hostess sat us down and we waited 20min before someone asked us how we are. Not what we wanted to drink. but how we are. She disappeared for another 10min then asked us about drinks and took forever to bring our drinks. I worked in service. i know busy. yes it was busy. i also know she only had four tables to service while everyone else had their own tables. i watched her. she was just really slow. not going back even though another influencer said she loved Rhumbar. not me.
Yeah it’s clear by my first time here in 20 years that everything is designed to maximize profits and take as much as your money as possible. When the MGM owns countless hotels, they also own all the food prices and a $6 bottle of water at one hotel is also $6 at the other hotel. Comes across as price fixing. And the convenience store at Mandalay Bay didn’t even post any prices, which codes across as dishonest.
This was very informative from the customers perspective. I'm actually going to move to Las Vegas at the end of this year and work as a Casino Host for me the customer experience is the highest priority along with amenities. Well done. Look forward to future uploads.
I think part of the problem is that people come to LV expecting a Disney World resort, and it's not - it's a working city with all of the problems all cities have. As someone who has spent a fair bit of time in New York City as a tourist, I would say that the tourist experience in LV is better than NYC
I had a wonderful casino host when I used to go to Primm. The first I knew of him he actually called me in my room and wanted to know why I never asked for any comps. I told him I didn't know I could. He then had me and my 3 friends relocated to a suite, gave me (and friends) free food at their fine dining restaurant, free booze, and so on. Every time I went after that I was given a suite and fabulous food. It made me feel really special. I miss those days. The comps are horrible now.
In the 70’s for $20 dollars a person I could fly round trip from Orange County. Private bus round trip to the Sands Hotel. Free lunch at the cafe.. All you had to do was play $5 blackjack for 4 hours out of the 8 hours you were there. Did that many times and at Christmas time the Sands gave me $50 in chips, without me asking. I was not a high roller. I took about $400 to gamble with. And if you brought 10 people with you your trip was free. This deal was advertised in the newspaper for anyone to sign up for. Also the casino host would meet you at the Orange County airport and fly with you and always be around to help you. You could even leave the Sands for 4 hours if you did your 4 hours of playing $5 a hand blackjack. They put a little number on your shirt so the pit boss could keep track of you. It was as fun as It sounds.
I brought 4 or 5 people with me to the PBR world finals in Vegas for 21 years in a row. I paid for all. I used to love it. Then came the resort fees. Then the parking fees. Then the buffet prices went through the roof. Then the minimums for table game went sky high. This was all before Covid. The final staw was the PBR finals left for Texas. Thank GOD. I'll never set foot in that rip off town again.
Another outstanding video. I miss the days of comps. Now it seems every casino wants you to get their players card and you need to accumulate points. I am a "Boomer" turning 21 in the 80's. I can remember playing craps and blackjack getting comped with meals quite often and they really pushed the drinks. Vegas has changed over the years, so have I. Jacob, on one of your upcoming videos on things to do in Vegas, show us the inside of that "Hall of Fame Pinball." I think I read that the owner donates profits to Vegas charities. Keep up the good work!
You still get meals comped. It's just digitized now. We get comped all the time. We get a room, food, and a show comped every trip. We just pay for the flight. I buy in for $500-1,000 per session on tables and bet $5-10 a spin on slots.
When corporate bean counters took over from the mob, it went in the shitter. especially when they started charging to park. Its like they don't want you there!
As someone who's always been a high tipper from the moment I arrive, it's still appalling that the attitude of so many staff in Vegas is that they are doing you a favor by showing up for work. DO NOT EXPECT CUSTOMER SERVICE IN VEGAS unless you are ready to TIP BEFORE anything is done for you. Very few have listening or communication skills. The theme of Vegas is: "we don't care, we're here to rip you off in any way possible, now get T.F. out".
@@Mdmc9738 Nah, that poster is right. I tip nonstop, but before you get a chance to tip you often get attitude right off the bar. In Vegas or anywhere, cynical bitter service industry folks create self-fulfilling prophecies
Beyond the fees for me it is 6 to 5 Blackjack and the homeless that suck the fun out of Vegas. There were always homeless in the Downtown area, it was expected, but now it is everywhere. People passed out in front of the Bellagio fountain is not a good look, Vegas looks more like San Francisco every day.
I miss the old Vegas. I used to get comped suites, meals, show tickets, and all kinds of other stuff. Once the Corporations bought out the Mob, Vegas went downhill. When they made it family friendly also killed the cool vibe it had. You used to be able to get these coupon books that had decent coupns for free chips, match play, and casinos used to cash paychecks for free. I can remember if I had to pay for breakfast it was like 99 cents or some other low price. Now they nickle and dime you for everything and act like they are doing you a favor if they give you a Tee shirt. I also remember penny slots... cheap way to kill time.
Yes, that homeless problem is real. I stayed at the Hilton next to Resort World on the LV Blvd and as I was pulling into the parking lot, a homeless looking guy dropped his pants and took a dump not more than 10 feet in front of us. Instead of parking, I drove to let the parking guard know what just happened and he immediately got on the radio. Wow, what an eye opener.
Where's Oceans 11 when you need them? My Grandma (rip) said Las Vegas was better and more classy when the Mob ran it. In fact lot of people's grandparents say that.
I remember it as a small child in the 70s. It wasn’t meant for kids, but it wasn’t awful for families. I think you’d need to be out of your mind to take a family to Vegas now-or anytime in the last 30 years.
I have to agree with Jacob on the rude employees, there are a lot of people out there who save all year long just to go to Vegas for 1 or 2 weeks tops so I can't imagine how disappointing this kind of situation must be. Luckily, as a Canadian I've always had really good luck meeting good Americans whenever I travel down south matter fact, I find the American people to be generally a lot nicer then us Canadians especially in the Southern states lol
I totally agree about finding a Lyft pick up spot, when I was at the New York New York back in January, I had to walk all the way in the hotel/casino and it took a while to find it.
Jacob, your videos are getting ever-better! I get lots of enjoyment reviewing the sentiments a professional blogger like you have about the high-roller city without digging a hole for yourself. This town continues to define itself. Our experiences can be unique ones, and mine is no exception, but I could only give high marks for making each of my trips memorable and enjoyable ones! Will I be back; most likely! Have I seen or heard things I'd rather not repeat? Most definitely, but there are only a few incidents, and not serious flaws that changes my opinion, either. The good outweighs the bad!
I'm waiting for them to charge a use fee to use the bathroom in casinos. Cleaning fee. Environmental disposal fee for the water used to flush the toilets. Attendant fee for when you don't tip the attendant. Plans fee for hiring a designer for remodelling. And remodelling fee for converting buffets to bathrooms.
Nice! My wife has a nail polish convention there this weekend and I'm not really a Vegas guy, but I am a pinball junkie and can't wait to get to the pinball hall of fame! We've probably watched a dozen "fun things to do in Vegas" and none mentioned it man thanks!!
Spot on info. Moved here from the east coast first time from 2009-2011 and then permanently from 2017 when my daughter got hired as a 911 operator at LVMPD. Big shift in crime, living expenses, road conditions and accidents, amount of people and vehicles, fees, panhandling, scams, drug usage.
I had a homeless guy follow me while I going for my morning walk on Fremont and when I confronted him he threatened to shoot me. As far as I could tell, he didn't have a gun on him but I know if I had punched him, the bleeding hearts would have accused me of being the bully for picking on this "poor homeless person."
You should have punched him! If the 'bleeding hearts' care so much about mental health, perhaps they should consider locking these people up into an institution they can get help. I'm no saying bring back the 1950's mental asylums, but a modern version of some kind of institution. People shouldn't feel this unsafe going about their business.
@@missd2657 You can thank Ronald Reagan and his administration for cutting off funding for state mental health hospitals, effectively shutting them down. What we see now is the legacy of that horrible decision 40 years later.
@@scottjohnson5415 That's BS. You cannot FORCE someone to go to a mental institution or a drug rehab. You could have institutions like these on EVERY block but no one can be forced to go. These people are where they are because they choose to be there. I got no pity.
This happened to me in D.C. but the guy didnt know I do executive protection and had my D.C. concealed carry license. I flashed my peice and he immediately started going the other way.
Really informative vlog Jacob. I agree 100% with all of them. Also, too many Casino's have permanently closed poker rooms which has definitely made for less choice. If you are a poker player, it's really disappointing. You mentioned less Buffets - the affordable ones closed down leaving the very expensive Buffets open. I'm hoping more attention is being spent on Hotel room cleanliness which had gone right down the drain as housekeeping staff got laid off, quit, left Vegas. The examples of dirty rooms and grossness was captured by several You Tuber's I watch and it was something I'd never seen in Vegas over the past 20 years I've been going. Disgusting!
100% agree with you on the triple 0 roulette and 6to5 blackjack absolutely ridiculous how greedy the casinos are getting and also since the pandemic table minimums have gone up a lot even in slow hours
I experienced rude employees a few times on my last trip to Vegas. This just blew me away considering so many have their hand out expecting tips. Be rude to me, I def won't tip you. Its almost hilarious.
I really do like you content, just found you and going to be binge watching even more to learn as much as I can on Las Vegas and see if this is still where I want to take my daughter. Thank you for the honest reviews/information/advice/tips/warnings!
Jacob, love your videos.....just watched your video on the 18 things that rob you of your fun........the first thing you said was crime........but you didn't give any advice on how to keep yourself safe. Great videos Jacob
I just wanted to thank you for your good insight and informative videos! Have seen so many over time. Helps me with some good ideas you have when I come from Kelowna Canada. I will copy and paste to a few vids of yours that I watched just tonight. 3 in fact! Thanks, Nol, Canada. Nov 17th. Be safe!
Exactly, I have no problem ignoring lowlife degenerates. I would not give them money if their lives depended on it. I don't even acknowledge their existence.
You need to do a shout out to the Neon Museum. Last time we went to Vegas we went there, at night, no less, it was an incredible, inexpensive thing to do.
Yes you hit the big one for me! We come once maybe twice a year and we save our money our hard earned money to come and relax and enjoy a well deserved vacation. And all the items you talk about have been getting worse! Much worse to the point not wanting to come once a year. :(
when i was a kid there was cops in yellow shirts and on bikes everywhere on the strip now i barely see them it sucks cause as a solo male traveler i deff feel unsafe alot more then i used to in vegas
With the escalators the biggest problem is the desert sand blown in them constantly by the wind. They run 24/7 in a non-climate controlled environment. Compare this to the typical escalator that is inside. That said did not realize that sometimes 50% are out of service. That is sad.
Another very good video Jacob. I agree it is becoming more difficult to get comps. And...if you do get one, you end up having to spend first to receive it. But the one that takes the cake is, where hotels are charging for cleaning rooms. It should be free....the resort fee should be part of that care.
Hey @Monika Demel - re: "cleaning fees" = Could you name hotels who are charging to "clean rooms?" Something you read as a joke on social media, while you believe true?!? Ehhh?
A comment on the food thing.... Last visit, we noticed that there are few "in-between" restaurants/eateries. They were either very expensive, or burger joints. But.... I finally got to try an IN-AND-OUT burger. And it was everything it was bragged about! P.S. Jacob, could you do an update on the water levels in lake mead, and the repercussion of shutting down hoover dam turbines and drinking water?
Good job. There's no excuse for the crime. They need more undercover, anti-crime units to curtail bad behavior. Judges need to be held accountable for releasing animals back into the public as well.
I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago. Not only were the homeless numerous, they were as aggressive as I have ever encountered. In four days, we had half a dozen encounters but two were significant. Walking mid strip about 6-8 black guys basically cornered the myself and two buddies. They claimed to be rappers and wanted to give us some sort of mini CD. Then they said they work “for tips” and basically demanded money. It was tense and they were WAY inside of our personal space at this point. My buddy gave them $20 to appease the animals, but it was a mugging sans the weapons ( which I am sure they had.). The second was on Fremont street while we were watching a band on the stage near D hotel. A homeless black guy wondered next to us at the front near the stage, turned his back to us and slowly backed into me. I nudged him with my shoulder to let him know he was in my personal space and he turned looking upset. I told him he bumped into me and the blank glassy eyed stare back told me everything. He was either on drugs and/ or a mental case. Anyhow, he started to approach me two more times and each time I pushed him in the chest and told him to get back. Finally one of my buddies noticed and basically got in between us and the homeless guy eventually wondered away. What made me most uncomfortable was not the prospects of a fight since he probably weighed 120 lbs and was malnourished, but he constantly was fidgeting in his jacket pockets. Could have easily taken out out a weapon which would have changed everything obviously. Beware when you visit Vegas ppl.
dude...the f;in shines who are 'struggling rappers'. ....just awful. I will never return and your story gave me PTSD....BTW I didn't part with my $10 even under gangsta pressure...BLM???? nope, not in this case
I actually went to Vegas for a couple night in July of 2020, right as things were beginnging to partially reopen. The staff everywhere I went were fantastic!
As a guy that owns a power wash company, not in Vegas but love to travel to Vegas. Love that you gave the washers praise haha it is dirty but no way to keep up , no one would pay the $ to have it clean every night 😂✌🏼
Last time i was in Vegas, we had a bit of a night out. Went bar hopping from Mandalay Bay and back to Cosmo. Near MGM Grand i was standing outside waiting for my friends, and some guy comes over to me and offer me a whole menu of drugs. I said no thank you, and he was fine with that. Then we just started talking. He was a very nice and polite guy. Moved down from washington because he was tired of cold weather. :p
I was in Vegas for the first time for 5 days and I can certainly agree with a a few of these. Food is really expensive and hotels being really greedy. Stayed Caesers palace got complementary late check out no problem,Flamingo and Harrahs nope but certainly offered to pay for late check out. Also the homeless are every where especially in strip Hotspots and on the bridge crosswalks. Now let's talk about the card handers mannnn I ended up with a whole deck by the end of my stay 😂
Just got back 2 weeks ago. Your video is spot on Jacob. Can't say I experienced everything listed but I saw many of them. One that hit home the most is that strip floors are nearly identical for slot players(credit to cosmo for having the most variety). Additionally they are very tight. Best day of play came on Freemont St.
This perfectly summed up my last trip to Vegas. We are (or were) considering celebrating my 40th birthday in Las Vegas.. but after my last trip, i don't know if we will. It's too expensive, too crooked, and too many people trying to hustle you.
@@JacobslifeinVegas ya thank u 6ro if yall know of any one bedroom apartments available please let me know were still trying to get into a place for now
Thanks for the video! I would have to say (almost applies to all locations) are the crazy concession and VCF fees charged for rental cars at BOTH LAS and hotel locations.
Originally, shows, restaurants, and other attractions were loss leaders. They attracted the crowds, many of whom would then gamble. But since Vegas went "family" in the late 1980s, they moved to a structure where each venue at the casino must be profitable. So, you don't get to have a great bargain at the buffet in order to get you to gamble. Going to Vegas--with crummy gambling, expensive attractions and restaurants, resort fees, parking fees, and all the rest--is like getting pecked to death by a pack of ducks.
Just got back from Vegas it was pretty dead, dirty, and too many beggars. Staff in most places were pretty rude. Bus drivers, security, staff... everyone seemed be in a bad mood.
Cost of food and beverages has become a very serious problem in casinos everywhere ... the quality and portion sizes has plummeted so dramatically it has fundamentally changed the LV experience
The city feels like it has more tension than ever to me. I've been coming for 15+ years and the homelessness feels like it's a feverpitch. I mean you can't go to a restaurant at a strip mall or go to walgreens without being approached by multiple homeless people from multiple angles.
I agree with all the latest hotel designs starting to look alike, many of them are being designed by the same architect, I like the vintage Vegas look when casino theme and design was fun to look at
I've been to Vegas twice. This list is pretty accurate but as far as casino employees being rude, I get it. I worked in the casinos in Atlantic City and some of the attitudes from the visitors can wear you down mentally. You can always tell a long time casino employee by the far away look in their eyes. I've stayed at the Silverton and Treasure Island. The employees I interacted with at both properties were very friendly and helpful. Even the bellman at TI told us about the daily bus pass. Easier to get up and down the strip and much cheaper than a cab.
You know I live here. And I interact with a lot of people on the strip. Most people have a good time. You can take any city and said the exact same thing.
My first time in Vegas, was in 2014, and in 2017 I moved to Vegas, from Milwaukee, WI. The three biggest problems I have with the strip are : Homeless people Scammers - especially the ones that stops and tries to throw a CD / DVD in front of your face. Litter Bugs - Pick up your trash
Jacob every time I see a new video of yours always make sure that I give a thumbs up and frequently I send the link to my sister who was with me right after the pandemic season ended and I met you in the lobby of the flamingo🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
Vegas was definitely way better in the 80’s and 90’s. Used to frequent the strip back in the day but the price the parking and the rude behavior keeps me away anymore. Since we have a house there now when we do go gambling or even stay at one of the hotels it’s almost always at one of the locals places like Red Rock The Stations Rampart etc or downtown. Even though downtown is getting beyond dirty and nasty. Way more than it used to be. I like this channel. Good job
Alot of good mentions there. My top 3 annoyances would be the cost of food and beverage these days. The stench of weed in the casinos and guestroom hallways and the idiot card slappers.
San Diego Ca. complains a lot about the Homeless. It was 10 times worst in Las Vegas. The table minimum limits were to high. $25 to $50 for 7 deck Blackjack. I got "Long Hauled" once, as we rolled up to the Casino, I called over the Head Casino outside and told him what happened, He said that should have been a $20 ride, he would take care of it and did. Las Vegas is a lot more dirty then it use to be.
You hit the nail on the head with the rude employees. I know a lot of people blame Covid on understaffed employees but it is almost everywhere no matter what staff situation is. Almost felt like I was in LA again!
The reason for ugly casino carpet is not only to repel the eyes of the player and put them back onto the machines etc., but to hide the myriad stains that naturally happen over time. I have a friend who described the typical casino carpet design as "pizza vomit." LOL
