Texturing EVA foam is super simple; today's episode will teach you more than 18 ways!
Methods (easiest to most difficult) [Notes]
1) Turn it over [Often, the imprinted pattern will work, especially in high-tech settings]
2) Drag a fork across it, unheated [Don’t press too hard; just break the surface]
3) Drag a fork across it, heat treated [Don’t press too hard; just break the surface]
4) Slice and heat [Can be heat gun or blow torch; not a hairdryer]
5) Aluminium foil and clothes iron [2 layers less likely to burn, but 1 layer gives more texture. Greater or lesser wrinkling changes texture]
6) Jagged knife cuts, unheated [Sean Counley’s method (but he heat treats his). Use a super sharp blade]
7) Jagged knife cuts, heat treated [Sean Counley’s method. Use a super sharp blade]
8) Just heat the surface, for glossy, dimpled look [Can be heat gun or blow torch; not a hairdryer]
9) Heat and press onto rock [Press onto surface of large stone. Can be heat gun or blow torch; not a hairdryer]
10) Heat and press onto pebbles [Place pebbles on flat surface, then press foam on top. Can be heat gun or blow torch; not a hairdryer]
11) Punch holes w/ nail or awl/braddle
12) Punch holes w/ tube
13) Punch holes w/ leather punch tool
14) Etch with heat tool [Can be soldering iron, wood burner/pyrography tool, or stick type hot wire]
15) Rotary Tool w/ Saw/Cutter Blade
16) Rotary Tool w/ Sanding Drum
17) Rotary Tool w/ Stone, Wheel Style
18) Rotary Tool w/ Stone, Bullet Style

Learning a lot from all the EVA work you are showing us. This will all come in handy when I finally get around to doing more EVA Foam Craft. Thanks a lot!

That's great! That's what I like to hear, is I've inspired others to try the things I've built. You're so creative, I'm super stoked to see what you come up with! Meanwhile, check out the video Atmoseeker just put up. His modular EVA stone terrain is super cool

Thanks, Karl! With so many people saying they were liking the EVA builds, but weren't as familiar with the product. I thought y'all might appreciate a bit of an introduction. EVA has _tons_ of possibilities and versatility

Thanks! I'm glad I can help. Seriously, go watch Sean Counley's channel, as he does some amazing stuff with EVA; huge trees, amazing cliffs, and entire _multi-elevation_ dungeon, those sorts of things. I plan to do similar vids, in future, but his are great, and already out there

Do! There are some truly wild things to be done, with EVA. If you want more ideas, a lot of CosPlayers use EVA a bunch, and show all sorts of methods on their various channels

The stony one is all Sean's idea. Kudos to him. The slice and heat has been around forever, just in other hobby fields. It can be used really well, for things like brickwork, tiles, etc.

Iv never even thought about EVA foam. But after watching this video, and a few of your others I'm thinking about picking some up just to play around. I do have a question however, you reference a heat gun a number of times. I sadly don't have one but I do do have an old hairdryer from my wife, will that do the trick of sealing the foam?
@CampaignTerrain
@CampaignTerrain 2 года назад
Maybe. Needs to be a pretty hot one. Full 1500 watt, if a USA model. EU/UK/etc. models may be higher wattage, ergo, hotter. Best of luck. I'd like to know if it works, for you 🙂

How about heat pressing a 3D printed texture roller?
@CampaignTerrain
@CampaignTerrain Год назад
That can work, at least on the smooth side. The foam would need to be pretty hot, first, and would need to cool, basically as it was being rolled. If the foam is cold, it won't take the texture, but too hot, and it won't keep it well. I'd say keep the heat gun close, and wear gloves which will help with the heat The patterned side absolutely will _not_ take a new texture. The manufactured pattern is quite heat resistant Great question!
