I love stuff like this. Never gut the chance to connect with my grandfather over aquariums but apparently he was breeding angels in the 50s and 60s. But it makes sense seeing that people have had an interest in these hobbies since time and memorial.

I’m thinking that old time film clip of eels/carp/frogs jumbled up was temporarily set up to capture the image and not a long term thing. This was very interesting! Love old footage, pics and backstories! Thanks Alex! Also I don’t mind your face one bit! 😁☮❤🐠🦐🪴

Aww thanks... and yes, it was a temporary thing that the brothers asked an aquarist to make....pile all his fish into one tank, basically

@Fishtory
@Fishtory 3 месяца назад
I've been hunting. I've got a painting going back to 1215 in China with carp in a bowl... and outdoor ponds tended in 1004 in German tapestries But I bet there's older. Oh also Egyptians and Roman's had fountains with fish...so I'd count that too
@laattardo

23000 BCE in the cave art at the Abri du Poisson Cave, has a full-size depiction of a male salmon.. that is much further back than even Egypt. And is perhaps the oldest known art of any fish.

I think I've seen depictions of ancient Romans keeping ornamental fish in stone ponds. But idk if it was authentic or replica, though...

Have they been there for like a century? Because most in the USA Were released by the 1920s and not much since on any public land. But from 1878- to 1922 they stocked millions to "eat algae" in slow moving rivers and or lakes across the USA.

I actually really appreciate how simple your editing and clips are. I know it doesn't matter what I think because I have old people taste, but what a better video for me to bring that up on than this one?! But you're a real dude, and a cool dude, you'll make good use of an editing program when you get one. Thanks for the video/s! 👍

I see Pike, Tench, European Eel, Carp and what looks like a large Bream, maybe? I don’t think any of the black bass species are native to Europe

Wow I didn't know about the European domestic carp 😧 they looked so pretty with those highly reflective large scales. Do they still exist in a pure form? Or are only hybrids left? Now I have to watch your other video to find out 😂
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 3 месяца назад
Still exist... hard to find as "pure". Leather carp are more common...which have no scales ( Ideally).

Hello Alex, just wanted your opinion on something. I have around 8 red and yellow shrimps combined all females and I have 1 male amano shrimp in my 5 gallon tank. The tank is only 4 months old and I put the shrimps around 2.5 months back. Now the tank is filled with baby shrimps most look like amano and some have the red pigment. Is it possible to crossbreed amano and cheery shrimps ??! I thought you need sea water for amano shrimps to grow
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 3 месяца назад
No they won't cross, but if Reds and yellows cross, they may turn out clear ones and some that look almost identical to amanos

@@Fishtory I saw another comment about the earliest art of a fish.. my comment got hidden. The earliest known art of a fish is from 23,0000 BCE and is located at Abri du Poisson Cave. It is full relief carving of a mature male salmon.
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 3 месяца назад
@laattardo well I think that's awesome and thank you for mentioning it. But specifically we are looking for fish kept as pets or lifestock... so an image with a man made pond or tub/basket. It's debatable whether the Aboriginal People of Australia may have art dating back 43,000 years. ( just of fish in general)... however most the art is maintained and touched up by the local tribes to this day, making dating very tricky . However we do know that there were fish ladders and pools that sorted fish by size in several Australian rivers, now underwater or dried up.
@laattardo
@laattardo 3 месяца назад
@Fishtory thanks for the clarification about the art. To think people were purposefully keeping fish that long ago is mind-blowing 🤯 I mean, if they were sorting them and such, it sounds like an early fish farrm.
