Hi Friends!
This week we go off-site to Lynn McMasters' secret headquarters, have a sewing circle with some friends, we make 2 petticoats and work on that 18th century Anglaise some more! I am getting soooo close! (maybe next week?)
I hope you all had a good week and I hope that you enjoy this video!

I am currently working on a giant cross stitch project. The design is an old fashioned travel poster for the Hogwarts Express. Fortunately cross stitch is the paint by numbers of the craft world and requires next to no skill. Some day I want to get into sewing costumes, but that takes skills, time, and space, none of which I currently have.

@@Costuming_Drama Thanks, though it will probably be a while before it is finished. I usually only work on it for a few minutes each day. In case anybody is interested, I got the pattern from an etsy seller named CountryMagicStitch. She has a bunch of the travel poster patterns for all sorts of different film locations, including Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Lord of the Rings. The Harry Potter ones are no longer listed, but if you can still get them if you contact her directly.

That’s exactly how I started before I began sewing. I learned cross stitch and then basic hand sewing techniques like putting a button and back stitch. My mother in law taught me how to use a machine when I first moved to Texas and I helped her make everyone’s costumes every year up until she past away. I fell in love and have been designing and creating clothing and making costumes ever since.

I getting excited for costume college, a thing i didn't know existed until i started following Bernadette here on RU-vid. I'm loving how both of you have very different approaches to your projects, and yet the dresses you are making are from the same time frame. I'm just loving the whole thing. Your dress is amazing already. i can't wait to see it done. thank you for sharing your process.

I loved seeing the time lapse of you working on the hem! And I think with the petticoat in, that dress jsut looks so beautiful!! While watching the video I was handsewing on some trim for an otherwise finished chemise, but the main project I'm working on is a 1910s dress!

Everything looks great! I'm currently working on a pair of 18th century stays, following one of American Duchess' patterns made in partner with Simplicity.
@elizabethhatfield2115
@elizabethhatfield2115 5 лет назад
@@Costuming_Drama It's the stays that go with the sack dress in American Duchess' book (and the pattern). I haven't decided if I'm going to get that pattern next, yet, or just follow the directions in the book while I have it out from the library. :)

I can’t really multitask as far as listening to books or watching tv (unless I’m hand quilting) so I’m pretty much a tv in the background as I’m a kitchen table seamstress. My oldest just moved out and in addition to taking her closet for my vintage dresses I’m eyeing the room for an actual sewing one. Yay! I am loving how this is coming along and to be honest, I sort of like seeing someone else discover the perils of car sewing as I appliquéd a quilt square to my pants once. We love Pokémon at my house. Although the 15 year old said even DeadPool couldn’t save the movie... Ps: were you as disappointed in GoT ending as we were? I wish we’d had a few more episodes..

So I got the same underpinnings pattern you used. I’m going to be adding the insertion lace details to it to make it frilly and hopefully I can alter the leg pattern enough to make it wider and add the lace there as well. Our Halloween Party this year is actually Victorian themed so I’m marking Joker and Harlequin inspired Victorian frock and walking gown for my husband and I. We have a son that I need to figure out how to make a mugman inspired outfit for. I wanted to say that I really am enjoying your vlog and your fabric choices are very much my style as well.

You could make a paper pattern of the little hem piece and use it to cut off the top of the petticoat next time.

If it makes you fel any better, those feet were stinkin expensive when they were new. I have an obscene foot collection for my 80's Bernina! ALL the feet!

Check with Hinkletown Sewing Machine Shop (Lancaster County Pa) for feet for your machine - it's Mennonite owned and they're a Bernina shop

I liked that audio book but i found the break through by the future characters very jarring in audio book format. decided to read subsequent books instead of listen to. (obv I'm running through your backlog vids to keep me sane as i work. lol)
