Oh man! My dad told me about how his dad always had him laughing as he would rock in the drivers' seat going uphill as if he was helping the old Model T along its way up the grade. Grandpa died before I was born, but I've seen his pictures and can now fully visualize him doing just that. Getting to know this Model T through you is a blast! Twas a gorgeous work of art when new, obviously - and a little bit complicated, while simple to maintain. Awesome! Dad never said if Grandpa's T was a roadster or not - I am assuming not. In fact it just now occurred to me that Dad passed 4 years ago today. So my visit here is entirely coincidental. Thank you, Lou, for having done this! I always appreciate your content and efforts providing it.

I have a few of these myself, mostly older. I must compliment the gentleman on the quality of his restoration, it really looks great and correct for date. I have the exact same tool box next to me - I was restoring it this week, The only thing wrong is the spokes were painted black. I like natural better myself. I'm doing a 1917 roadster this year - which involves a lot of searching.

Spokes were always painted black from the factory. Dealers would have replacement wheels that were not painted, customers would request that the dealer replaced the black wheels with the unpainted spokes. They would later varnish the spokes, and that became very popular.

The Model "T" started the whole movement of cars, first in the States, then, all over the world, including my country Costa Rica! I have big respect for Mr. Henry Ford and his great idea of making cars for the common man!!! Indirectly, all of us car fans exist somehow because of this simple, reliable and honest cars, so, we owe to all Model T's a reverence! This car is the most influential car in history!

No wi-fi, touch screens, cameras, rain sensors or heated seats. How did people survive??? This car is a time capsule back to the normal working class guy who had a family and a mortgage. The simplicity of this car is incredible. I love the fact that the owner was also the primary mechanic. Certainly not blinding fast, but this simple little car is an icon of the early auto industry. Interesting video and well done, Lou.

T's are magical machines. I never get tired of them. Close enough to St. Celestine to hear the bells 😀 I haven't ridden my bike in the area since I was 13, and haven't lived in Chicago since '81. I used to ride my bike everywhere. It's nice to see that the area is still nice. That T is right at home there.

Note the spokes are round, only car to ever do that, but they were turned an a lathe. All others were oval, formed by shaving. Took one of these apart, 100% in 1967. Rebuilt everything and back together. You can tear down and reassemble in about a day if you want to.

David R Lentz, USA At first I was going to say, “Well, that was interesting” (and it was, as far as that goes), or something to that effect. In truth, it was both delightfully enjoyable (short of experiencing it in person) and immensely instructive. I enjoy building model kits, including vehicles in certain categories; 1) private passenger cars from round the 1920s through to the early 1940s, stock, showroom new and pristine, original parts and paint colour scheme, Mr. Greifhahn, your black 1922 Ford Model T Roadster fits that to a T! 2) tractor trailer rigs and large, work-related trucks, generally from round the 1970s and the 1980s, 3) construction, excavation, etc., vehicles (bulldozer, cement mixer); 3) emergency response conveyances (fire truck, police cruiser, ambulance), all of standard design, with routine wear, road dust, etc. So I like the opportunity to have a close look at the real vehicles (I am very myopic), to find the myriad details-the four small, metallic rings that open the hood, the spark plug wiring-that no amount of book learning can convey. Thank you, Mr. Costabile and Mr. Greifhahn. Perchance would either of you, or anyone you know, have a 1920s Duesenberg, Lincoln, Packard, Cord, Auburn, Oldsmobile touring car, or the like? I know of kits of these that I would like to build more accurately.

@@gunslinger2172 Before cars and going way back, it was common to always pass others on the left. Reason being you would carry your sword on the right so passing others on the left, you were always able to fight if need be. Some parts of the world just decided to stick with what was standard and common at the time i guess.. im pretty sure some of the very first automobiles in America had the steering on right because it wasnt really known which side was the better way to travel with vehicle.

I never had the car, but I do have a complete set of the tools. When I bought my 1st house it was full of the former resident's stuff. The Old Woman specifically dug out the old tool box to tell me what I had there. Some great stories came with them as well. Still have them, my Grandfather looked at them back then and knew exactly what they were and more importantly how to use them. Said he made a few temporary connecting rod bearings and main bearing repairs out of old harness leather. Didn't last long but beat walking or messing with horses which he wanted no part of.

They moved to Grand Rapids,Michigan a distance of 653 miles! I sent this true story to the READERS DIGEST for possible publishing in the LIFE IN THESE UNITED STATES because when they tool Route 20 east to Dubuque,Iowa it had been raining hard all day and when my dad got close to Webster City my da saw a road sign but could not read with the heavy rain,so he stopped the car and my Uncle got out and walked back to read what rhe sign read and it read,WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS MORTON SALT! I saw another video before this one where the guy had to use rhe crank outside of the car to start it. In this case it had an electric start, that was much easier. The driving operation was still the same. Cars today are much easier. In my family my uncle talked about my grandfather having a Model T pickup truck. I never saw that it or knew my grandfather. A guy that was a parent of one of my wife's daycare kids had a shop behind his house where he restores Model Ts and Model As. He gave me a tour of his shop and showed me his personal Model T. It was quite interesting. Beyond that the closest I came to owning one was building a plastic1:30 scale Model kit.

This car changed everything. Before the Model T, cars were like private jets. Only the ultra-rich had them, and they were almost like a novelty. They were expensive to manufacture, and awful to maintain. The Model T made cars cheap to manufacture, and affordable to the emerging middle-class. Now having a car was an achievable goal for most people. They also revolutionized mass production and changed how we made things. It is a marvel of engineering in many, many more ways than one.

Hey Lou. Another awesome video. Nice looking hat Tom Greifhahn is wearing. I have a similar hat of my own. I've seen Model T Fords before. I remember one year there was a rally here in Seattle, Washington, where a convoy of Model Ts drove through every city and town in the country. Whether the rally *started in* Seattle, or whether Seattle was simply one of the places they drove through, I cannot remember. But I remember seeing these vehicles driving through town. I would give drivers either a thumbs up, or sometimes the "peace" sign. For being over 100 yrs old, they seem to run good. :)

Excellent restoration! I'm glad to see someone who knows how to drive one. With modern gasoline, that car will never ping because it has 4.5:1 compression. Start it at retard, then put it to full advance. That is how you get the most power out of it. I had a '26 Coupe for a while. It was a lot of fun for a Saturday cruise.

@@loucostabile Hi Lou, I wish that I had some of the cars from my past. I am 66 years old, and instead of the 50's and 60's Chevys that my friends had back in the '70's, I had unusual cars. I've had 7 Studebakers, a '58 Edsel wagon, a Corvair, the Model T and others. When my wife and I got married, everything changed because I now had a family. I still had the Model T, but then sold it so that we could move. We had to live on the money from that car for a while. I have subscribed, so I will keep an eye out for more videos. Best Wishes

When I was young my uncle from Phoenix, he restored cars this era, he came to visit and ending up buying a 1922 Model T. It was what they called a Doctor's coupe. Doctors made house calls back then and behind the seat is where they travelled with their bags. Normally the gas tank is behind the seat but not on this car. Even had what they called a fat man's wheel. Completely original car.
