The Ford Model T Depot Hack is a depot hack made by Ford from 1919 to 1923. It was based on the chassis of the Ford Model T.
The Depot Hack was made to hold luggage and passengers and was used as a minibus-like vehicle or taxi. It was specifically build to hold a high capacity of people and their luggage, the depot hack was not on Ford's catalogue but was made by independent firms who used as a passenger vehicle. It had 20 horsepower, 176 cubic inches, a four-cylinder engine, and its transmission was 2-speed planetary.
Classic automobile kit: Scale-modeling is a great hobby that provides a hands-on building experience as well as brief study of history and mechanical engineering. This 1/25 scale 1923 Ford Depot Hack assembly kit presents a timeless automobile from the earliest days of car manufacturing.
Old Timey Details: This vintage delivery vehicle features plenty of “Woodie” details that represent in an authentic Ford Model “T” Commercial Chassis. It features engraved wood grain, side curtain rolls and structural wooden supports. Everything from wood spoke wheels to decorative filagree decals are included.
Eye-catching packaging: The kit’s vintage packaging is great to display on the shelf next to your finished model.
QUICK SPECS: 1:25 scale. 90 Parts. 5 1/2” long. Parts molded in white with clear plastic and black vinyl tires. Skill level 2
The Ford Model T (colloquially known as the "tin Lizzie", "leaping Lena", "jitney" or "flivver") is an automobile produced by Ford Motor Company from October 1, 1908, to May 26, 1927.[10][11] It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, which made car travel available to middle-class Americans. The relatively low price was partly the result of Ford's efficient fabrication, including assembly line production instead of individual handcrafting.[12]
The Ford Model T was named the most influential car of the 20th century in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, ahead of the BMC Mini, Citroën DS, and Volkswagen Beetle.[13] Ford's Model T was successful not only because it provided inexpensive transportation on a massive scale, but also because the car signified innovation for the rising middle class and became a powerful symbol of the United States' age of modernization.[14] With 15 million sold, it stood eighth on the top-ten list of most sold cars of all time, as of 2012.
The Model T has a front-mounted 177-cubic-inch (2.9 L) inline four-cylinder engine, producing 20 hp (15 kW), for a top speed of 40-45 mph (64-72 km/h).[27] According to Ford Motor Company, the Model T had fuel economy on the order of 13-21 mpg‑US (16-25 mpg‑imp; 18-11 L/100 km).[28] The engine was capable of running on gasoline, kerosene, or ethanol,[29][30] although the decreasing cost of gasoline and the later introduction of Prohibition made ethanol an impractical fuel for most users. The engines of the first 2,447 units were cooled with water pumps; the engines of unit 2,448 and onward, with a few exceptions prior to around unit 2,500, were cooled by thermosiphon action.[31]
The ignition system used in the Model T was an unusual one, with a low-voltage magneto incorporated in the flywheel, supplying alternating current to trembler coils to drive the spark plugs. This was closer to that used for stationary gas engines than the expensive high-voltage ignition magnetos that were used on some other cars. This ignition also made the Model T more flexible as to the quality or type of fuel it used. The system did not need a starting battery, since proper hand-cranking would generate enough current for starting. Electric lighting powered by the magneto was adopted in 1915, replacing acetylene and oil lamps, but electric starting was not offered until 1919.[32]
View of the driver's controls, 1920 Model T
The Model T engine was produced for replacement needs, as well as stationary and marine applications until 1941, well after production of the Model T had ended.
The Fordson Model F tractor engine, that was designed about a decade later, was very similar to, but larger than, the Model T engine

Just lovely, mate! So many ideas! Just this kit I would want at least two, to build the second as the pickup truck, as you say you would. One setting I envision would be a streetscape diorama of the late 1920s--complete with storefronts and residences of various kinds; hawkers, shopkeeps, paedestrians, bearers, etc., populating the colorfully charming tableau--with an assortment of the Ford Model T automobiles such as you have built. I would make at least two of this depot hack, the other as the pickup truck you at 36:43 mention. ICM (which I understand to be a Ukrainian manufacturer, still operating despite Russian invasion) makes 1:25th-scale kits, one of a 1914 Ford Model T Fire Truck, another of a 1913 Model T Speedster, and a 1913 Model T Roadster. From the build video of the last that I recently had seen on RU-vid, this one looks to my untrained (myopic) eyes comparable to the AMT kits. I was about to include some references to RU-vid videos on them. In the course of noting their names, I found your channel, with your review of the speedster. Since you beat me to it, well, onto the next. In my digging, I also have found videos on ICM's 1:25th-scale kits of a 1911 commerce roadster (whatever that is supposed to be) and a 1912 light delivery truck. Oh, would all these ICM kits greatly augment my (as yet ephemeral) town display! I would make any replicas of the roadsters and the delivery truck(s), being rather older, a measure more weathered and careworn. Similarly, does Revell make any Model T kits? Or is what I had seen of theirs a Model A, and I am conflating them? Several years past had I built simultaneously both AMT's and Revell's Model A depot hack kits. The former seemed, well, I cannot quite express it; simpler, though with no loss of detail or parts count. The latter was finer, and with openable doors (I at once had replaced the hinge pins with fine brass wire), and far more finicky.

Just thinking - back in the 60's - when annuals kits with "3'n1" was all the rage in model building - these "old time kits and their 1:1 counterparts represented vehicles only 40 years out of production! Equivalent today would be to look at 80's vehicles as "vintage" and late 60's "muscle" cars as museum pieces - oh how time has flown!!!

Awesome build! Love the green. Somebody could also build it as a World War 1 "what if" vehicle, with overall olive drab paint, and a tan canvas roof. Another good technique for finished wood is to paint the woodgrain with tan and brown, then paint over it with clear orange. I've used this on "wooden" propellers, and it looks pretty authentic. Just FYI, the depot hacks used to pick up people, from the train depot, (this was before most people had their own car) and drive them to the nearest hotel or motel that the depot hacks were owned by. They would give them a free ride, to get them as hotel guests.

What glue do you use to attach painted parts to painted parts that don't fog the paint? My tamiya thin works great on non painted parts but my bob smith glue i use for painted parts to painted parts is fogging the paint.

I use dollar store super glue. If you use a tiny bit it won't fog. Future floor polish will cover the fog if it does.

Any negative effects painting the acrylic craft paint over the spray paint? I sprayed Black Gloss Rustoleum 2X on everything but I might paint the fenders/body with acrylic color paint on top. Am I better off just spray painting them again in the color I want? Any suggestions?
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 2 года назад
I can say that craft paints will have no effect. Either brushed or airbrushed over it. Rustoleums do not like other spray paints sprayed over them, even other Rustoleums many times. You could have problems.

Very nice build. I really think AMT needs to adjust their pricing on such kits with a 'very' low parts count!!! Sorry I cannot justify spending what they are asking for such 'limited' part trees on some of these kits!!!!! Come on Man......
@rogerroberts1310
@rogerroberts1310 3 года назад
Price of oil effects cost of plastic, increases in wages and taxes, increased cost of transportation, cost of the tooling (which sends more and more work overseas), etc., etc., etc. Where can they cut back to lower the kit's price? I am aware of this because I was forced to take early retirement (read: " No work") from being a Tool Maker in the Plastics Industry.

FoMoCo never built a "depot hack" but did sell running chassis assemblies to companies that did make the vehicles. Therefore the vehicle could be colors other then black. By the way, why hasn't anyone mentioned that the fenders in this kit ARE NOT Ford Model T? They are simply "typical" early 1920 "something".

Yup, most are stored, manty are given away, some are sent back to the companies for their corporate displays. Raising money for charity would be really cool, but it opens up an IR$ nightmare of taxes and 501c filings, etc and I simply can't afford an accountant and a lawyer to do all that. Great idea to show the paints lined up! Makes it easy if you want to paint it like the video.
