Today I had I try to get a 1928 Ford Model A that has been sitting forever to run again. The wires were melted together and I fit a new wire loom.

the Model A is the perfect first time collectors car, fun to drive, parts available, not too expensive. Just great cars.

The parts for these cars are so cheap it is silly.

@@ThisWeekWithCars BUT a lot of bad quality repops….you have to really pay attention to what you’re getting to avoid getting burned.

It now makes sense to me why there is more than one wiring harness as you mentioned they can have different bodies. I will admit that's not something I had thought about. The original wires were likely made from vulcanised rubber which can break down over time but some may have been replaced before. I like that coil tool, you can't be in any doubt using that. She is coming along well and I look forward to the next step. Thanks Steve.👍👍

The coil is called an auto-transformer. It has 3 terminals, +, - and high voltage output. On a negative ground system, ignition + terminal to output terminal has the lowest resistance. Terminal - to output terminal has the highest resistance. A simple ohmmeter can be used to determine which terminal is + and - .

Stock Model A's have a positive ground system.

@@831BeachBumOK, After entering the instructions, I realized Model As have positive ground and I gave the wrong instructions.. Here's the correct instructions: "+" terminal to output terminal has the highest resistance. "+" terminal to "-" terminal has the lowest resistance. A simple ohmmeter can be used to determine which terminal is + and - .

With all the more modern (comparatively) cars you work on, it's amazing to see how rudimentary, but functional these old cars really are!

Greatest respect for your videos, super informative. Every time I end up hoping they were longer! Advice from an old electrician, use a steel fish-tape to help feed those tough reaches of the electrical harness. Would love to see you a 60’s Austin Healey.🏎🛸

I’m amazed you can still get parts for these cars. I find it hard to get parts for my late 90s Honda Blackbird and the ones that are available are getting expensive.

Would you consider a video outlining timing the engine? It's unbelievable what a difference it makes when it's really dialed in - fun to drive when it's right. They're very peppy little cars.
