In this video I restored a Belgian Hammer Drill from early 1930s , from the company Rawlplug Mechanical Hammer.
Ever since I saw this tool, I've known that a beautiful restoration video will come out because it's a cool tool , you will see. Enjoy the restoration !
About restoration video :
The restoration process was quite complex because there were many parts to be restored and that lasted a while. I was glad that the wooden parts did not have wormholes and could be easily restored. I decided to restore all the parts and replaced only 3 parts that really needed change. I left a lot of patina on this tool and I think that after the whole restoration, the tool looks awesome. At the end of the restoration I tested it and this tool did its job for which it was designed.
I worked on this restoration video for about a month but it was worth it.
Please consider subscribing if you want not to miss the notifications for my next restoration videos. I love you all and I wish you well until next time.
Hand Powered Masonry Drills
The early hammer drill to the right was sold in the USA by Orr & Lockett Hardware Co. in 1914. The Rawlplug Mechanical Hammer was patented and sold in the UK and manufactured in the UK and Belgium. Another US maker was the Diamond Expansion Bolt Co. of New York City. Their hammer drill was patented by James T. Hoal on 4 August, 1914, U.S. Patent No. 1106306.

Probably much older, since production parts can be sitting in several processes. Think like the cutting and treating, to the ordering and production phases, that wood has a chance to have been around for more than 100 years.

it has been a long time since RU-vid reccomended this channel to me. there are many good restoration channels to watch, but the attention to detail you show and how careful you are to preserve as much as possible, makes it seem like you really care about the result, not just about getting likes and subscriptions. I worked in a second hand shop for a few years, I had the pleasure of restoring some antiques. To me it isn't about the price something can be sold for, I feel like when something has been used and appreciated for many years, it has a value which has nothing to do with money. This is why when something old becomes worn, neglected or abused, it makes me sad, and if I am able to restore some of its dignity, I feel like the old tool/furniture/toy, etc, says "thank you". While there are many good restoration channels on RU-vid, some are very entertaining, some are interesting, it is very seldom that I watch a video on RU-vid and feel like something which isn't even alive is saying "thank you". So in case you don't get that feeling, everything you restore and most of the people watching are extremely grateful.

I remember, in the 70s, using fibre Rawlplugs installed using the hammer-in Rawlplug tool, using the same tip as that, before electric drills. I wish we had known about this tool. We also chewed the fibre rawlplugs so they would grab the hole better and not rotate as we drove in the screw.

This was very relaxing and wonderfully hypnotic. Something about bringing new life to old things, order to disorder, infusing new use into an old tool that time’s entropic forces were slowly corroding just made it impossible for me not to watch the whole thing to the end. Well done. Great editing rhythm, keeping only the essential. 👍

3:30 They should have removable plastic/rubber teeth for vise grips so you don't have to tape it to not "bite" into the metal.

Dang, I never expected to see anyone actually using one of those wrench thingies... I have been seeing ads for them so fuckin often, and the acting in the ads is utter shit 😂 but the product itself is pretty neat. Tho I do wonder how durable the pins in it are...

Beautiful restoration. Applause for getting those screws out, they easily could have broken or the slot strip out. I was amazed at the condition of the handle. Not even a chip out of it, considering what the tool was used for. I learnt something new from this video, that Rawlplug is proprietary name and company, not generic description of a building component, though it has become that.
