The Gibson double neck SG style was first produced like 1958 thru ‘62 i believe. I could be off but my point is that a lot of “metal” guitars like the Flying V and Explorer were made in the 50s. Long before “metal” existed. Pretty interesting.

You are honestly refreshing. The rest of these posts pretending they heard them before are hilarious. I grew up in the 50s and 60s and never saw them on TV. Rockabilly was not mainstream until Elvis, and there were way too many teen idols after that. These kids were too cute for rock and roll and too raunchy for the Grand ol Opry stiff necks. Talented kids, but early rock and roll left them behind.

I'm a longtime guitar player and love learning about great pickers of the past, from any genre. In my opinion, Larry Collins (the kid in this video) is THE most underappreciated rock 'n' roll guitar player of all time. For starters, he's using a double-neck Mosrite that probably weighs 20 pounds, at a body weight that looks to be maybe 100 pounds. He's doing physically demanding stage moves that I've never seen anybody else attempt. His technique is darn good -- and this song is far from his most impressive playing. He sings harmony well. He does all this on live television with no opportunity to go back and fix errors. And at this point (1957) he's only12 or 13 years old (born in October 1944). Phenomenal.
@pouglwaw5932
@pouglwaw5932 10 месяцев назад
You've summed up Larry's phenomenal showmanship very well. His well-acted musical skits with Lorrie show more of his performance skills, all while "wrecking" that rock guitar and floating around that stage. No backup band, no special effects, not even a drummer- amazing young entertainer.
@63DW89A
@63DW89A 4 года назад
The Collins Kids! Uniquely talented, yet sadly overlooked and underrated over the years. They were genuine trailblazers. Glad to see that some have always recognized their talent, and hopefully that recognition will grow. Although not as common as "Sister Acts" or "Brother Acts", the "Sister-Brother Act" does seem especially unique, right, charming, sweet and excellent when it does happen. Lorrie & Larry Collins are great examples of that, along with Donny & Marie Osmond, Karen & Richard Carpenter, and the Browns, (Jim Ed, Maxine & Bonnie) to name the few other "Sister-Brother" acts I can think of.

Unfortunately, especially today, the nitwits cannot appreciate things from longer than 12 years ago or less. Having some knowledge of music (as here) helps and even more so, placing one's self in the era something comes from and having heard other similar music from the time for comparison. This goes not only for music, but all films, dance, literature--basically all the arts.
