Give the soviets credit. They always picked the best of the best from the west.

Not that they had many choices to choose from necessarily. Studabaker was a pretty natural vehicle to copy, because the Soviets had plenty of them and were accustomed to them, knew the ins and outs of it. But by 1958 it was quite outdated already, let alone decades after...

During the Vietnam war many USAF pilots swore they saw lots of "Studebaker" trucks being used by the NVA while flying over North Vietnam, this video explains this experience.

Reverse engineering it seems to be a Soviet. Gift. These trucks were originally built in America broken down into crates sent over to Iran. Reassembled and sent up north to the Soviet union. After World War II, they copied them and the B-29 bomber.

It looks a lot like the old Dodge power wagon

That is exactly what I was thinking! It looks like a 1940's Dodge Power Wagon. We should probably compare pictures of this ZiL, to both a Studebaker and a Dodge Power Wagon. I have not seen either for quite a while.

When I first glanced at the thumbnail, it looked like the truck was doing some kind of crazy Dukes of Hazzard jump. 😄

Hey! I have one of those Studebaker 6x6's. Inline 6 Gas engine. Well, I don't have it yet exactly. I only have to go a couple miles away and get it.

Let me guess from the Thumbnail: SOVIET DUKES OF HAZZARD! Watches video: Oh, that's all it was?☹

Thanks. Did they change everything over to Metric or keep the old Imperial nut & bolt stuff? The only Metric on the original would be the spark plug thread, 14 or 18mm.

I have seen other photos of Soviet trucks with the downward sloping hood and squared of military fenders, more like the wartime Studebaker trucks.

When I first visited Ukraine 🇺🇦 in the summer of 1999, people were still driving those around.

Looks like 1940s International K series cabs. There are a couple still being used as farm trucks around my town today 2.5-5 tonners. Grille and front nose are different and chassis are obviously much more beefed up to handle rough Soviet conditions . Great trucks!

I really like that Cop Killer hot rod. Any idea what engine that is? I saw one a long time ago swapped into a DeSoto car, I think in Finland. All I remember, it was from Soviet times.

Awesome truck! I wonder how many of those are still around? I bet there are millions of those around in various states of use. They took pride in what they built.

Like all authoritarian regimes, there was the idea of there being but *ONE* true correct way of being; the corollary of everything being “social/political” (and the whole of life being a matter of *Dominance, Power and Control;* ) and finally, the *Universality of Punishment for all forms of deviance, irrespective of cause or motive.* However, I recall hearing (from someone who spent his formative years behind the iron curtain, in then Communist Poland) speaking of needing to be a good drinking buddy with the boss if one wished to “get ahead.” Upon hearing *that,* however, I thought, “just substitute *Golfing* for drinking, and the same situation applies *here!”* That said, there were *some* things they seemed to do a bit better, chiefly in avoiding the excesses of consumerism common here.
