id love to own this model truck as a first car as im 17. been watching and learning how to fix engines and older vehicles because though they are safer, newer cars just don't appeal to me as much as old ones do. I'd rather be driving in something that makes me feel like im driving something rather than driving something that makes me feel underwhelmed.

As soon as you opened the hood I said 292! I worked at A service station in the 60's and 70's and the foreman had A '58 Rancho with A 292 and A 3 on the tree. I had A 60' T-Bird with A 352 Slush-O-Matic. Piled that one into the front porch of A bar in Rush City MN.!! Speed Kills!!

Since this video was published on Jan 11, 2017, I am thinking it must have been a wee bit cold. I noticed the second part of this video back at the house seemed to look like maybe a cool morning, or by that I mean the light. I don't see any breath though coming from the guy making the video. This is a very cool series of videos. It is part salvage, part history, part saving an antique. The series is certainly not about body work or about making a truck look pretty or tough. The tires and rims though did a lot for the truck. Nothing like some new sneakers to run around in.

Does my heart good to see these old vehicles get rescued.I am a Ford guy but I like to see all brands saved from the crusher.
@gregjude2198
@gregjude2198 7 лет назад
Preach it brother! I'm like you, Fords are my favorite, but I like anything with wheels on it and would like to see all of 'em spared the fate of the crusher. Guess it's because of the way I was raised, my dad was a Ford man, so I grew up listening to him and his stories about his old cars, but once I discovered Hot Rod magazine, and PHR, and all that... well, if its a car or truck you can always do something cool with it!

I'm like you,love Fords but like a lot of the others and difinetly do not want to see any of them destroyed.

All the 312 engines I have seen were black, had 4 barrel carbs and true dual exhausts. None were factory red or had the single exhaust with the front crossover pipe. The first Ford blue engine I saw was the 300 horsepower 352 FE in a 59 Galaxie. Engine color meant something back in the 50s. I have a 59 Fairlane that came with the red 2 barrel 292 with rear exit exhaust manifolds but the pipe crossed under the car to have only one muffler. It sounds much better now with dual 36 inch glasspacks on it. Old Fords need to rumble a little.
@Kevin.W.
@Kevin.W. Год назад
Ford only used the 312 for two years, 56&57, they were red with black valve covers, 4barrel only. Only trucks had crossover pipes. Mercury used the 312 through 1960 as a base engine, 2barrel only.

I am a Ford guy and have had a few Y-Blocks in my time , That is the first thing used to take care of was replacing the 272 or 292 crossover manifolds with 312 manifolds that were duels . Jonathan that is another indication that your 59 Ford pick - up is a 292 , I never saw a 312 have single exhaust. Not saying it never happen, most 312 were duel exhaust.

I sold a 59 Ford custom cab for $250 years ago. Im into pre 48 rides and have been for thirty years or more. Building a 1941 ChevyPickup now. $800 invested so far all used parts. Body $100 engine $50 trany $75. Most expensive part was front and rear suspension from a 1995 Caprice classic. That came from the Sheriff's car in Madison County Idaho. Four wheel disc breaks and a 12 bolt posi with the 2.70 gears. The engine is 72 Dodge V8. Im keeping the Lavender brush paint job. Also utilizing the Police exhaust system for the quiet sleeper sound. Im making the flatbed out of used badly weatherd wood to give the junker look , it will accentuate the Lavender brush paint job well.

59 F100 my favorite year. Tailgates are hard to find! Glove box tag will tell you info. I converted my exhaust to ram horns off an early F750. Orange red was the original engine color with black valve covers.

That's my favorite Ford truck body style. The reason is kind of silly, but it's because I had a Buddy L Coke truck as a kid and it was that style truck.

Ford made more 292's than any other "Y" block. The displacement isn't stamped anywhere on the engine. The best you can do is look at the casting number on the side of the block to see when the engine was made. Does the trans have a vacuum modulator? If it does, it's a newer trans and probably a full 3 speed. If it only has throttle linkage, it is probably a Ford-O-Matic, although it could be a Cruise-O-Matic. The Ford-O-Matic was a 3 speed, but you only got low gear if you pulled in low. The Cruise-O-Matic was a full 3 speed. It would start in low gear in D1 or second gear in D2.

Thanks for the Ford Fix! Would be a good idea to put it back in another Ford...that's something that gripe everyone..."cross-badging ". I understand you use what you've got. Thanks again for your sweat and blood! Rock on Jonathan!/

I'm doing a 1960 F350. The front cab mount area is the worst area rusting out. Most likely the original 292 Y block.

I am struggling to recall stuff from a few decades back when manufacturers used a block for years and years that you could get a rebuilt one from a refurbishment company that would paint the rebuilds either blue or gold. back in the late 1980's or '90's in Britain that was.

Too bad about that 56 Ford car was so bad a shape but that1959 F100 looks like a good project. That 292 looks like it is in pretty good shape. Its good that he plugged the intake with that rag and the oil and trans fluid looks good so you should have a pretty good rat rod engine hopefully. Thanks for sharing

A lot of nice chrome pieces on the 56 to bad it's a rust case . Like the pickup and even with the rust it still has a lot of potential. Don't think it's a 352 wrong value covers , I'm going with 292 . Hope you get to run , your right a ford would be a nice change . How's the Falcon doing .

@jlletaw1954

Interesting how sometimes vehicles come with titles but no keys & here's one with keys & no title...don't know much about Y blocks except that l heard they would spin cam bearings if one were to lean into it in an aggressive fashion...help a buddy of mine open 1 up before & it had solid lifters so you shouldn't have to worry about a sunk lifter when trying to get it going...every 292 l can remember was painted red with a 2 barrel & that cross pipe going around the front...& the automatics were 2spd fordamatics...l had 1 in a 61 falcon wagon with a 170 motor & it would push start with a vehicle that would match up the back bumper...l think l like the old dodge with the gourds in the cab better...did a rear end for that thing ever find it's way to you?
@joealbert7773
@joealbert7773 7 лет назад
The Ford-O-Matics were actually 3 speed, but they stated in 2nd gear when you put them in D. You got low gear when put in L. Old hot rodders would start in L, wind it up and shift to D. When the trans went to second gear you would pull it back in L to hold second gear. When that wound out, back to D to get high gear. The procedure is actually explained in my T-Bird driver's manual. I think the air cooled torque convertors went away in 1955 or 1956.
@jlletaw1954
@jlletaw1954 7 лет назад
Joe Albert l think l remember something about that...it was a long time ago (1972)...not much hot rodding going on with a 1 barrel 170 in a falcon 4dr wagon, but l remember something going on in there...what got me was you could push start it & it would start once it was going fast enough
@joealbert7773
@joealbert7773 7 лет назад
Most automatics used a rear pump up to run the governor to about 1965. This pump was run on the output shaft of the trans so pushing the car would pressurize the trans and allow it to go into gear.
