I worked on Gravelys for 20 plus years , they came in 3 different horse power , 5.5 6.5 7.5 Only difference was the size of the Venturi in the carburetor , I had a 1958 but sold it Now I got one of the very last ones they made , got it in 2000 , I could make that Magneto box make a 1 quarter inch spark plug gap I got so many parts to these things , I think I will get them all out , By the way , the very first one was built in 1916 by Ben Gravely out of an Indian motorcycle engine and a Ford rear end
some of the best repair videos. Great explanation and good video. I seldom see those old machines in my area. Been looking for an old Gravely , or similar. Better machines than the new ones.
Nice job with the video! Excellent camera work and editing. Close ups were great. You have exceptional skills and good sense for organization. Thanks for making the videos.
Good work, Jake! I had an old wooden handled job and nothing was any better when it started. And all mine that had the mag on them, the mag fitting was off center so you couldn't get the timing backwards and I used sand paper myself. Good deal and make us Tarheels happy with that flat top! GBWYall!
Sweet man! So many good little tips in this video! I definitely have to start punching out some leather for those sediment bowls! Also that mag timing trick is a pretty good one, definitely going to keep that in mind! Apparently I need to find a stubby wrench too, you should see me trying to get mine off with a small ratchet and full sized wrench lol. (Mine has GRWs on it too!) You weren't concerned about starting it with all that crap ( totally stealing the word "crustatios" by the way! 😂) and rust in the cylinder at all? Also I know someone who would probably buy that thing if you decide to sell, I'll text you the details... So happy you are posting videos again! Looking forward to some more when time allows! :)
The mag deal and stubby wrench are definitely worth doing. Saves a heck of a lot of frustration! Haha, nope... all that crustatios stuff was going to blow out the exhaust anyways. If it was big flaky stuff that could've scored the cylinder, then I would've pulled the head. Going to see about uploading one now every 2-3 weeks, been making time to film on the weekends.
You've got more patience than me. I would have just hit it with 12v. A lot of old tractors are still running around with 6v starters but 12v charging systems.
Had a customers TO35 here last year... his brother outfitted it with a 12V system but kept the 6V starter, still worked well and didn't burn the starter up.
Good job Man !!! I have 7 of them from 47 to 66, at the moment only one is running and it is a 64 !! I think the LS was the best model made, it was geared perfect for plowing or mowing, anything that you had to walk a lot for,, Mr. Gravely was an absolute genius !!! Love your videos and look forward to all of them, Wish I had a better place to work on them myself !!! May the Good Lord Bless you and yours !!!
Thanks! You're lucky they haven't turned into a herd yet... I started off with 2 and now have around 35. Ol' Ben Gravely definitely had a great thing going... incredibly smart man to come up with such a simple useful rig! Glad to have you watching!
Sono propietario di una di queste meravigliose macchine dal lontano 1960 e avrei bisogno di una bobina avviamento xcontinuare ad usarlo x tanti anni e sentirmi ancora giovane come un tempo io adoro questo gioiello
I did a top end rebuild on one like this awhile back. Bored jug valve job carb rebuild normal service. These old babies will just run forever with a bit of maintenance. Valve set up is so much better then other engines with one on each side. Parts are getting hard to find now .
There's nothing to 'em... as long as the maintenance is kept up you're golden! If you don't know already, check out www.gtgravelyparts.com they're still producing parts for these old L and C models.
That's a rare occurrence here Billy... Though that JD in the background did come in for a repair. I have it whittled down so all the equipment passing though here is pre 90's now.
@@5Tractorguy I'm rebuilding an '82 111 JD at the moment, it's kinda small for me (I'm 6'1" 200lbs) but I just like that tractor, lol it's not a Kohler sorry. 11hp B&S
@@5Tractorguy ya I bet it is, I like your channel because I love the classics. A time when design engineers made tractors look quality with elegantance and material choices to complement.
Nice little unit. I missed out on a pair of LS parts machines a couple years ago, kind of kick myself in the butt for not taking them now. Keep my eyes open I guess.
Those old girls are becoming obsolete ! But still real cool ! To bad someone couldn’t come up with a good modern use for it ! Like a wheelbarrow or a yard pusher or something !lol
I think our shop radios are tuned to the same station, too bad that's not what makes these old machines run again. Hopefully, I've picked up enough from watching you to get my simplicity 7016 tractor going again
Ya can't beat bluegrass! 7000 series Simplicitys are good tractors. I imagine yours has the 16hp Briggs in it? If so, definitely plenty of service parts available for them. And if you got the Kohler... can't beat it!
Great job Jake. I'm hitting 70 with a bad knee. If you are interested I have three walk behinds of different vintages, two have swiftomatic transmissions. Comes with various attachments . The " newest" with 8 how engine is in running condition. I think you are in Pennsylvania, I live in New Jersey. I'd be happy to give them all to you for free as I have so much enjoyed all of your contact. Contact me if this is of any interest to you... Be happy to include pictures. David Reading
David! Sorry for the delay, been straight out with work here... Wish I was closer! I'm actually up in central MA. If I was headed your way for a trip or another plow day, would be happy to take you up on the offer. Unfortunately I'm just too far away.
A lot of people think they are hydros (on the walk behinds and riders) because of the instant forward and reverse. These have planetary sets in the transmissions with cone clutches, allowing for the instant speed change. Riders have independent drive clutches on either side of the trans that operate off one lever... allowing for the same control of motion. Riders also have hydraulic lifts... so people could confuse that too.
@@5Tractorguy I was wondering if they say made all LS's like one day. and L's another appears just did when ordered. Curiosity too you know how it goes
Я вообще-то продаю. Смотрел на собственность, которая была старой ремонтной мастерской. У них была куча пил, которые собирались сдать на слом, поэтому они сказали взять несколько. Хорошая сделка!
