1960 was still part of the Atomic style, Mid-century and had influence of the interest in space travel. Zimmer billed itself as "Worlds Finest Mobile Home" and delivered with features like a raised kitchen (just one step up), tip out room and a liberal dose of starbursts and sunbursts from cabinets to the stove clock. Enjoy this video and my other ones of vintage stuff. This 10x50 mobile home is the bay window version, front kitchen.

Reminds me of my childhood. My grandparents lived in a park model one-bedroom mobile home in a trailer park in Dallas, Texas in the 1960's with a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge on one side and a drive-in theater on the other. What memories!

I started my life in a similar trailer home 61 years ago. We lived in a park in Havelock, NC, with mostly Marine families as neighbors. My dad was stationed at Cherry Point for a while. As I get older, I find myself longing to return to a similar trailer home. I saw a nice park in Ocean City, MD, recently that had mostly 1960's trailer homes in it. It took me back to my childhood seeing those styles and pastel colors again.

I lived in a 12 by 60 mobile home when I was 8 around 1965. It housed the 6 of us. My mother and stepfather, me and my 3 sisters. Our bedrooms were tiny, we slept in bunk beds. We lived in Florida, then we moved to South Carolina and we moved it with us and then to Rhode Island. I remember it was a Great Lakes. I really love the vintage ones the best. Our mobile home came furnished. I liked living in a mobile home. Years later when I was 16 we lived in a 24 by 64 mobile home. I think the first one was more cosy.

I grew up in a two bedroom turquoise trailer. Everything was bright turquoise. Furniture, appliances, tub, sinks, toilet…there was a turquoise washing machine in the bathroom. It was finished out in a light colored wood and beige linoleum floors. The doors to the bedrooms and bathroom as well as the closet doors, were sliding doors that would always come off the track! My dad would get furious if we got them off! We moved from that house into another one that was all emerald green and yellow! Shag carpet no less! We were stylin’! 😂

That’s so cool to see it’s a time capsule! My apartment I currently live in is from the 70’s and my bathroom counter has the exact the same starburst wall paper design!!! Some stuff like that I just wouldn’t dare touch it’s to precious. I like to imagine that I’m in the 70’s living life with my family the exact same way the family did before us! I have pictures of the building before and now it’s exactly the same!!

My grandparents lived in an identical home when I was very small. They didn't have it long before it was destroyed by a falling tree that took out the kitchen area. So that he could get a faster settlement from his insurance company, Grandpa bought one of those new fangled Polaroid cameras and took the pictures himself. And before you know it, he and Grandma were placed in a brand new mobile home. Although it wasn't as nice as the Zimmer, it served them well until they divorced in 1962.

The Marlette has all the factory supplied furniture, and the only thing that has ever been changed in 62 years is the bathroom faucet, LR curtains, lightbulbs and mattress. Both of those trailer homes still even had the original mattresses, which I did change.
