My father flew a Skyraider in Korea (USN). I remember him telling me how tickled he was when he learned of the "Able Dog" MiG kills in '65 (he was still in the Navy). Great video!

There’s a funny story related to this in the book “Alpha Strike”, a compilation of various attack jet missions during the Vietnam War. After the shoot down of the Migs, the Intrepid was on a cruise of the Mediterranean and was transiting the Suez Canal and some Egyptian pilots came aboard who also flew the Mig 17?. When they passed by the squadron ready room for the Skyraiders, they saw the red star kill flags on the door, with Mig 17 noted. They asked the Americans what planes shot down the Migs, “ Oh an A1 Skyraider” came the reply, The Egyptian pilots became enraged and started shouting that it was all propaganda as they were led away.

My father told me about this! He was present on the Intrepid when this happened. Flew with the "Green Lizards" Second VA-95. He was a second seat in the Vigilantes. Though by all accounts, the jets weren't just used for recon operations, but carried bombs as well.

Slower plane has some advantages, the rate of turn is greater and the radius tighter. So you've gotta use what you've got and fight on your terms. Never lose sight of the kunce!

Ya it was about 25% more powerful, weighed a bit more, and had 4 20mm cannons which hurt a lot more than 8 .50s

No, the p47 and a1s have completely different flight performance and an a1 would run circles around a p47. . . Not comparable

Instead of trying to chase after the Migs, You both should have entered into a wagon wheel formation. To try to lure the migs in

I think the FW 190 would have been a better suited option as it is equipped with 4x20mm just like the AU-1. Great video nonetheless, keep it up!

the only way to win is to stay low tree top level and stay fast. Turn head on any time you can to shoot . I real life that is how Sandys defended from migs.

the maneuver flaps on a jug is a bit manual Cap. Bind flaps to a 3 postion switch on your WIN WING throttle. 1 for down, 1 for neutral and 1 for up. Eventually, you'll get timing of long every 10 degrees of flaps comes down (or you can alwasy just look at your wing).

You could also use the same aircraft for a similar scenario when a Brit Sea Fury shot down a Mig !5 in Korea .

One of the mig pilots in this encounter said he made 10…,possibly 12 gunnery runs on the skyraiders. 572 dropped the toilet bomb.

The SkyRaiders were much faster and had huge engine performance compared to the Jug, also they had 20mm cannons instead of .50 cal, good try tho

I managed to down a BF-109 with an A20 in Il2 great battles and yes with my front guns . Then went low level and got the hell out of there .

It's possible, obviously. Just really unlikely. The Zero totally outclassed the F4F in dogfighting. It was just a much better fighter. The F4F was actually a monoplane version of the F3F, a bi-plane. Still the F3F could shoot down a Zero *IF* the F4F played to it's own strength and exploited the weaknesses of the Zero. The Nay didn't have a fighter that could compete against the Zero until the F5F Hellcat became operational in 1944.

The p47 does better as a boom and zoom plane and it was all so a ground attacker is you guys should have try to get hight as and come down on the mig's were you could have gotten better hit of and possibly set 1 on fire
