Jojo scratches off another item on the to-do list in his mind and tackles the original ball joints on the 1966 Chevy Impala…Along the way he talks brakes, uses excessive force, and overcomes fitment issues to get the ole girl back on the straight and narrow for summer cruising.

Thank you! Replacing lower front ball joint on my ‘69 Impala today and it didn’t fit. Same style as yours. I have the whole control arm out of the car and had wire wheeled and painted it. Removed the paint from where the ball joint slots in on the sides and filed down the edges of the ball joint a bit, after watching your video, and managed to get it in. One of the holes would just not line up. I put the top nut on and as I tightened it, it pulled the ball joint in enough to get the side bolt through. All good now. By the way, I have been scraping dried and baked on grease off things for a month during this job.

When finished installing , Do tighten the nuts all the way and torque them? When I was finished it took a lot of effort to move the spindle side to side. Is that normal?

Tighten it all down…it’ll be hard to turn by hand, but it’ll be easy peasy when you hook up all the steering linkage

doing a front suspension overhaul on my 1957 Chevrolet 210 series, and omg the amount of grease on every component is insane. bolt heads just look like little balls of grease until I chisel all the crap off to get to it.

What size tires are those? 225 or 235? Same on rear? Thanks. They look good

Believe it or not they are 215/75/R15 which is the modern equivalent of the original size!!! We just replace these tires last weekend…they were date coded 1992!!!

@@Jojoandsonsgarage I really wanted to go that direction but my original SS wheel covers are in such good shape, I stayed with 14” original wheels. I’m a big fan of the rally wheels and bf Goodrich. I have those on my 56 Belair.
