Greg, you are a true artist. I talked to you before I did my conversion on my '66 and it worked out absolutely fantastic. Total success, especially with your videos and advice. Thank you!
mr hillyer, your video is giving me the courage to try and put a roof on my 1979 pontiac trans am..previous owner put a 1978 hurst ttop setup on my 1979 t/a..i want to put a hardtop back on..1978 ttops were a smaller setup and look a little out of place..i appreciate how you explained the use of the rulers in the windshield and rear window space to keep things even and properly spaced and also the metal pieces in the pillar spaces to keep the roof in place..great helpfull info!
I don't see why it would matter to be sold as a fast bag og I've been around this stuff for a long time for this guy obviously knows what he's doing he's doing a lot better job and Ford ever did I dare anybody to say that this isn't a safe proper way to put a car together does it matter fact I know of a 65 Mustang fit in the Talladega Museum that was a 66 box top turned into a Fastback and nobody even knows it black and gold hats off to you guys good work
This is the type of skilled work I used to see in Hot Rod shops but the skills and patients are no longer available to produce great quality work I wish your shop was local I would trust you fellows with a couple exotic's I have banged up Love your work
Interesting video, curious as to the process you undertook; the inner structure was transferred? I've found the structure to be vastly different vs the Coupe and Fastback, did you replace the qtr panels, or just weld what we see in the video?
I've got 3k in my 67 fastback including wheels and new floors, and still need a ton of work. BUT I have a steering column and suspension and glass.... so you gotta figure you'll be at 17 at least before you're at the same stage I am at with my conversion...I'll be done with the entire car for undetected 10k....vs 15k just for a shell with no vin even
How good are the rear quarter panels on coupe. where would you draw the line to put on new rear quarter? This is a good time to replace them if there was a lot of rust around wheel flars or is a little bondo ok ? what your toughts on this.
Thanks for the posting. Its hard to see but it looks like you cut the roof right at the body line where it just starts to bend and goes down to the wheel well. Is That right its hard to see in video???? Then that edge just buts againt the 1/4 panel on the inside, Right?? Then it would be hard to see anything looking from the inside Right? Thanks again for the info!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you show the process of taking off the fastback roof. Im doing this same thing right now. Im stuck at removing the spot welds along the inner and outer sides of the wheel tubs. How are you able to access those?
and then they get sold very expensive to europa as fastback :-), just have seen one of those conversions mustangs in Switzerland :-), the buyer was very pissed after he could find out :-)
+Silversurfer604 Why? First of all, it's the buyer's fault for not checking the VIN codes for authenticity, and if he couldn't tell before buying it, nobody else will be able to by just looking at it. Calm down, shut up, and enjoy the great car regardless of whether it left the factory like that.
definitely hillbillies the way you cut the A pillars, for complete strength better than factory you should have stepped the pillar with a cut around 2 inches from each other and then drill out the spot welds between the two cuts and then matched the A pillars on the roof to suit the A pillars on the stang instead of a straight cut and a sleeve and slide it together.
