I was in Junior High when my older brother came home one day in a brand new 1966 Dodge Charger, bright red. I had never seen a car that beautiful before, and haven't since either!
I love watching these dealer promo films, and the commercials for the 66 charger, especially because I own one!!!these cars a truly classics, and are rare today
My brother and a friend from college who owned a 1967 Charger camped in it at Daytona Speedway back in 1968. He said it was really comfortable to sleep in.
I’ve seen a couple of these at a coffee and cars show in Atlanta. The interior is extremely roomy, even when the rear seats are up. It’s a little unsettling, because the car doesn’t have all that crumple zoned “bulk” that cars nowadays have. It’s definitely a radical looking car, even by today’s standards.
When I was in the Navy in 1986. While stationed in Pensacola, Florida. I had an opportunity to buy a 1966 Charger with the 383 V8 for $3,600. It was in good condition. But I didn't get it. Still wish I had. The wallpaper on my pc is the electroluminescent instrument panel from the 1966/67 Dodge Charger. If only.....
First gen Chargers would have looked a lot better if Dodge had widened the rear end. Back tires look lost in the wheel wells as is. BTW, I own a 67 Charger. Put 15x8.5 American Racing Torque-Thrusts in the back, with 15x7's in the front. Looks much better.
That's the exact wheel combo that came with my 66 charger project when I bought it. 275 60 15s/15×8.5 on rears and 215 70 15s/ 15x7s on front. To me, it's what made me like it more than all the other 1st gen chargers I had seen before. All the ones I had seen prior would always have small tires on it.
Too bad you're not a chrysler engineer too bad they didn't make a low deck 452 cubic inch engine from the factory if we're on wishing what could've been
LoVE it , Only One , The one and only CHARGER ....!!! 66 to 70 some of the most beautiful Cars Dodge ever made .... miss all of my Chargers , Cuda's n Roadrunner's.... but the Memories Live on forever...😎
12/25/2023: A close friend of mine bought a yellow 1966 426 HEMI Charger from the original owner in 1974 for $850.00! Flawless condition. We spent a lot of time in that car. Wonderful. Prior to that, he and I put a 426 HEMI in his 1967 Dodge van. We used to drive to High School in it. I've always been a MOPAR guy and I have owned three 440 magnum cars, a 383 and a 340. I grew up at a great time for cars. Born in 1952. Thanks
So...according to this promo film, if I want to find a 1st gen Charger on Cragslist, then I might want to look in the camper section too? LOL. These 1st Gens wouldn't be nearly as bad of looking cars if Dodge hadn't improved everything wrong about the bodylines with the Gen 2.
Vinyl was often an option over cloth seats back then. Today's cars often have "leatherette" like MB and BMW. Toyota refers to theirs as Sof-Tex. Living in Texas, I'll take cloth over vinyl or leather.
@@amatodelsordo1573 yeah if your talking compacts (which is what valiants, meteor, falcon, chevyII etc) were called. As a matter of fact, 48-52 gm cars were fast backs, although they weren't called that. I was referring to midsized platforms.
So the kids could just slide around in the back with the seats folded down while they played whatever and Mom or Dad was wringing out the ol' V8 and smoking a whole pack of Red Apples. That sounds safe.
I well remember this model. It was a sales flop, selling only about 38,000 units. Younger buyers just weren't attracted to it because it lacked the sleek, stylish, sporty look which at the time they so highly desired. It also closely resembled the 1966 AMC Marlin, which was a major negative issue. Nowadays, within the classic car realm, the '66 Charger has attained a somewhat elevated appeal, but back in the day it was a total loser.
Your right. Even this ad doesn't know who to sell to. In my lifetime I have only seen 2 or 3 '66-'67 Chargers. Maybe they should have played the girls in the back seat angle more......🤔
Long story, but I lived with an USAF family at the time. The father (a colonel) brought one in silver for his daughter for HS graduation (we went to the same school).. She didn't care for it and had me drive her wherever she went. Felt like the king of the road behind that wheel. For a month any way.
My cousin had a 66 charger with the 318 engine in canary yellow and black vinyl. I thought it was a sharp-looking car that performed well except that the car rattled a lot when you hit bumps and both door lock mechanisms broke inside the doors.
I got lucky and bought one today. It's just a 383 car but I will get 400 out of it when I do a few modifications. Only 86k miles. Needs a little TLC but nothing major.
They are sequential too. I just bought a 66 today. My kids and friends think I'm crazy but they haven't seen the car yet plus they've never driven an old mopar. Can't wait to slam them in their seatbacks, lol
It's awesome! My friends 69 RT/SE is in restoration now painted the darker greem metallic orginal paint code for his. Emerald Racing green I think? It on my chanel dragging at the strip in 1996! Also 71 Challenger shredding tires, abandoned dealership 50yrs full of CARS, etc! /w\HEAVY-METAL/w\
I bought one today. Got a great deal but still very expensive. I sold my 70 Coronet 500 back in 81 when I needed money for tuition for $800, STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. Oh well, got a new girl now.
6:41 I've had that engine. It's very little go on a crap ton of gas, the exact opposite of what Reagan says. FWIW, you can get 18mpg highway with it in stock form. But it's also slower than any modern vehicle with the stock 2bbl and restrictive exhaust manifolds. To say nothing of the small valves and tiny cam. That's before you load all of those free-range children into the back of your '66 Charger, too! Best get the optional powerplant if you're doing any time-traveling.
