In order to figure out which panels we can use and which ones we will need to replace I had to strip the fiberglass and bodyfiller from all the suspicious areas. Once that is done I will have a pretty good idea what to order and then start working on the areas that are salvageable.

When I was looking for a GT6 I probably looked at 15 cars all over the US. What I learned is even “rust free” cars all have rust and they all rust in the same places. It’s only a matter to what degree. The repairs to a rust bucket or the “rust free” car are mostly the same which is why your rusty beauty is just as worthy for restoration as a “rust free” car and now my new rust bucket. That’s the value in your videos. Thanks for your effort.

Exactly! Many times people just advise me to give up this project, whatever it is - gearbox, bonnet or entire car, and find a better used one. The thing with these cars is that you never know what is hidden under those shiny paintjobs or covers.... Or actually almost always you should know that this is just too good to be true. I wouldn't buy a "rust free" car unless I can see a proof of how it was done. A detailed videoseries for example :). For me it is much better to save my money that I would pay for a "rust free" car, buy a 10 or 15 times cheaper rust bucket and build it from scratch. This way I know everything about it and also I enjoy doing it so it is even better. I've seen too many cars that were not what I thought they were and learned my lesson. So I am glad you share my opinion!

I saw only two and a half, and yes, rust on all the same places. Almost always hidden by bondo. I think there was maybe one patch panel that was tacked welded, but then bondoed over. Who goes through the trouble of welding on a new piece only in a few small places, not completely? Anyway, the car I got was mostly an Arizona/Texas car, and remains a Texas car. While it was in much better shape than this one, still the same areas all around the bottom. I think the sad thing is, even after a frame off restoration, I left it outside ONCE, and surface rust started to form!!! Even the brand new bumper guards started rusting!!!

Lovely to see you restore these great little cars with such enthusiasm and affection. I suspect it may be as much a labour of love as a way of making a living for you.

Great to see you back on a GR6!!! I own and in the beginning stages of a TOTAL “frame off” restoration, a ‘67 MK I. I love it!!! Rebuilding the total drivetrain, the frame is back from the “frame shop” and, it is now powder coated.... i’m going to powder coat everything I can with the exclusion of transmission differential engine block because it’s just not practical. I am however going to powder coat the bottom of the oil pan, on the engine. Currently the body tub hatch and doors are all being acid dipped for stripping can once those are back going to epoxy prime them. You’ve been quite an inspiration, and because of your videos I’ve decided to purchase and restore my own project. I’m learning a tremendous amount of techniques and not afraid to tackle any other projects or sub assemblies, attributed to your tutorials!! So to that cheers Erin!!! And thank you for the guidance inspiration and tutorials by all means continue on I’m archiving everything!!

Wow first comment. One suggestion for that line in the roof is to place a small sandbag on top and then gently tap the dent from the inside of the roof. The bag acts like a dolly.

If he removes the rear hatch...he can hammer and dolly it properly...it has to be watched as you work it.... Not hard to rework it back into shape...

Can’t wait to see the patch panels being fabricated. That takes experience and talent, and you are an expert.

Having fun watching this, Elin. I'm sure this is the car I was negotiating on about 5 years ago, and came very close to purchasing. Had interesting conversations with the owner about how he had brought out over from Germany. It's interesting to see what you are uncovering as I had been wondering then what it would look like underneath. 👍

It is a good reminder of what rust damage can occur over 40 years and also that a shiny coat of paint might just be that..... no substance just shiny!!! Kind regards, Richard.

Wow you are so lucky to have the ability to do the dirty work outside. I couldn't and boy what a mess in the garage, it goes everywhere. So when I'm done the garage gets an overhaul.

Well i had my finger's crossed for you as i watched in expectation of what you were going to find under those wheel arches , looks like your going to have a clean sweep with the door's looks pretty cool, looking forward to seeing those arche's rebuilt, p.s had about half inch of filler over mine too lol

I didn't check all the other comments but I think the roof was creased by someone trying to reverse out of a garage with the tail gate up. OOps! BTW, that is a patented anti static exhaust hanger, very rare. Link below?

Hey! It takes a lot of work to make Bondo look THAT good. He must have had a lot of experience. Maybe it’s because MIG welders weren’t as available when those repairs were done?🤔🤔

Wow. That Bondo is scary. Way too much. That passenger rear wing is so far gone, your probably better off replacing it than repairing, there's no telling how badly it's rusted on the inside. Also, if you need plastic hinge cover for the dome light just holler. That one looks cracked.

I don't think I've ever seen such a bodged car, it's a shocker. I am confident you will make this car special again but I can't help wondering why your friend didn't involve you in the purchasing process considering your vast knowledge of Triumphs?

7:52 “always forward first, even if for an inch.” I own a 1967 GT6, and was wondering if you could explain why I need to do this (because I haven’t on any manual, unless by accident.)
