A month ago as my leg was getting better and better and the 76 TR6 was getting closer to being completed I started working a little bit at a time on the 66 GT6. I couldn't grind and weld yet due to my cast (I can only imagine what it would feel like if a hot piece of metal goes in LOL) but I could strip the interior to get it ready for the metal work.

Sunday mornings with coffee and one of your videos? I was surprised to see how the roof was attached to the windshield frame at the factory. Can’t wait to see the fabrication and welding at the hands of a master!

Thank you for the detailed disassembly of the doors in particular. I took mine apart but didn’t detail every move so this will greatly assist in reassembly. I look forward to the floor repair as my floors are the only real bad sections to deal with. Glad you’re healing well.

Oh boy.. A real labour of love.. Great video from which even this old timer Triumph bloke learnt something. Mr Rust has been hard at work on this example.. He needs evicting asap, and you're just the right bailiff for the job Elin.

Thanks for the close-ups during removal of the headliner. I just started putting mine in and never had an example to go off of as it wasn't in when I bought it.

Hi Elin, again an entertaining and educational video. You truly inspire me to start a project myself. And... compliments from my wife! She really liked your choice of music!

I am glad I inspire people to get their own project or get back to that forgotten one that collects dust in the garage for decades :) Classical music goes well with classic cars I think :)

Thank you so much for this and all your other videos. I’m at the point to start putting the new interior in my 1980 Spitfire, when I got it it was pretty much gutted. Your disassembly will assist me in reassembling mine. Thanks again take care. PS- you’re doing great with your leg being able to persevere through it. Been there done that with a broken leg, old plaster cast way above my knee. Had to get the cast replaced twice, once after falling off my 10 speed bike, yeah -well I was kind of dumb when I was young….

Looking forward to this build, Elin! Gutting the interior is not fun work, but you did it so professionally it wasn't as painful as it might have been. Thanks for another excellent video.

That is nothing but a rust bucket I’m amazed that you would even attempt to get it back together.

I wouldn't touch it if it was less than a rust bucket LOL. You know that is right up my alley :)

I have a 1967 mark one it looks virtually the same as your 66 you’re working on. Mine is completely tore down I mean everything is out of it I have to replace both front and rear wiring harness is re-run all new brake lines the motor is now in the motor shop been machined the transmission because the main transfer bar is shot sink pros are shot so my transmission is being rebuilt. My frame is totally powder coated which may have been a mistake because a lot of the front wishbone and control arms were all powder coated and I have to drift a lot of studs and even score of the powder coating before I can back the bolts out and replace all the bolts and bushings that are required. So at this point I’m getting ready to rework the front suspension then I’ll do the rear suspension the differential is totally rebuilt and the shock supports we’re all powder coated as well. I have yet to do any welding I have done some stick welding in the past and got fairly good but it is obvious that stick welding is not gonna work out on this project so I have to reteach myself how to do Mig welding. Before I do that I’m gonna go bison 18 and 20 gauge flat still in practice on that first before I start cutting and replacing panels. Repeat I have never done this before so this is an all new experience for me, I am extremely excited but also very nervous!! I will watch and re-watch your videos time and time again until I’m comfortable doing certain operations on my own. I probably could’ve already bought another car that’s in great condition but then that would take away the intimate knowledge you get with your own vehicle as you terret down to bare bones and build it all back up again. What are the thing I did not mention is like that 66 you’re working on my window frame is out it has does have three screws up on top and the screws on the bottom and everything was acid dipped to strip it all down and then Apoxsee primed after which I will paint later but right now I’m got to get on that chassis and make it a roller as soon as possible. I think you so much for the tutorials they compel a person to be more motivated in his project than ever!

There are a few typos in there but I think you can figure out what I was trying to say that is no excuse for my laziness however. Such as synchros, not “sink pros” (😳), buy some NOT “bison” (😡). I am embarrassed about it I should’ve proofread before I hit the send button…..

Oh and EPOXY, NOT “apoxie”, whatever

That is a lot of work that you’ve done and that yo have ahead of you. But it is all fun, I promise you. If you bought a car in a good shape and started making some small repairs you would have found yourself in the same situation, because cars on better shape do not exist unless they’ve been totally restored. Sometimes the problems are hidden intentionally and sometimes even the sellers do not know what is hidden under the too layer :) Good luck with your 67

I’m having a tough time removing my GT6 steering wheel. Outside of removing the nut and washer, is there anything else that will help. It won’t budge.

Elin: speaking of metal work and welding, would you please share with us your welding equipment set-up and settings? I seek to repair some metal on my TR-6 but must first learn how to weld. Thank you.

I am not the best welder that you could learn from. Also my welder at home is pretty new to me so I am still learning it. There are many great tutorials on you tube. Look up Trev's blog and This Old Tony, you can learn a lot about welding from these channels.

If the car so rotten, how looks the frame under the body ? I can´t wait to see the restoration, it´s a hard work but you know what you do. Good is the second GT 6 so you can watch.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
I am not sure about the frame. I will have the car elevated soon and I will be able to check the frame. If there is a need of repair I will do it when the body is all done and off the car. Having my GT6 for reference is good, but it is a little different body so I need to be careful
