You should do a video on the Front suspension if they’re interchangeable between the Blazers the trucks and the suburbans

While you're at it shear off, or drill out, the 4 rivets holding the cross V in place. Those are 3/8 or 7/16". In advance of doing so I suggest you step up, and have ready, 1/2" bolts at least, and bolt it back in place with washers and even double nut or lock nut them in place. It takes about a minute to take it out, and about 5 to put it back. Why do I suggest this...if you ever have to work in the area, such as replace a balancer, the V out of the way will make this, and more, far easier. I did this mod when I had to do just that. Removing the fan shroud and fan, and even the radiator, allows a ton of room and you can even stand there, on the ground, and work on the engine such as changing the cam and lifters, accessing the distributor, etc. I was cautious as I didn't know if the frame rails might shift so I tightly clamped a length of angle iron to them. I didn't detect any such occurrence so you can probably skip that unless you have the suspension detached. Have fun but be safe! :)

I just watched the side marker lights video. I Just ordered the 85 to 96 van lights I like the flush look too, thanks! For my 72 G.M.C. LONG BED I found in a field 3 years ago It had a broken driver door handel and I couldn't get one because of covid wharehouse's like classic Industry's closed but I did have two solenoid's ,so I took handles off shaved the doors , welded the holes came out great you can't tell there was ever a handel and key hole there. Now I can open the doors with my key chain and a hidden button on my truck, on the inside I left the handles on the inside I like the chrome with original black panels look. But I feel I am 2 years behind of all the things I plan for it did a lot already put a motor in it a 250 inline 6 I bought for 400$ I changed front A arms and spindles 6 to 5 lug and rear springs and 6 lug to 5 lug axel . Lowered it 4 inches in front and 3 inches on the back. I got lucky very clean grill and bumper looks like new chrome! The body too no dents no rust . now looking for side mirror's cool ones ! Watching a lot of C10 truck shows for Ideas!

I don’t think you will be disappointed with the flush markers. Sounds like you found you a GEM with that GMC. You’ve done a ton of work! Sounds like you’re almost there. The 250 is a great engine, but I’m with you on the BBC in the future. If it runs now, enjoy it. I don’t have any of my junk running right now and miss them.

Long ago I lost track of how many times I've gone around and around with other owners of these trucks in regard to what markers were used when. I learned even more from this video that I noticed while watching the vent door work video. Thank you! I've a '69 stepside C/10 which first served as a security truck at Area 51. I have the non-socket, blank knob, type markers and DANG do I wish I had thought to just open the hood and show them! Good grief. Of course, some discussions were where my truck wasn't. It does not have the side lamps in the loom, however, I do have four pigtails I salvaged from a Camaro which I indeed to employ in the new, standard lenses I just installed. I will want them to flash with the front and rear signals. I have seen them in the past and now recall that they alternated though It's fine with me if they don't. I might even look for appropriate mirrors with signals in/on them or some I can add signals to as I really like the safety aspect of those.

I appreciate the support! An Area 51 truck?? That’s awesome! It’s wild how many changes happened every year with these trucks. Just when I think I’ve got a good grasp on them, I learn more from others. I like the idea to get the back markers flashing too. Keep educating them buddies!

You're most welcome. She is, she went to the 'test site' auction (Area 51) in May of '75 and a buddy's dad, who had a used car lot in Vegas, won her. I was home on Navy leave and saw her all sharp in blue and white, with new, white, Jackman wheels. So, I popped in to say Hi and ask about her. He had just driven her out of the paint bay less than an hour before. Bought her for $1,500 and took her to my new duty station, Fallon, NV NAS, after a serving aboard my first ship at Pearl Harbor. Eventually both of my new baby boys came home from the hospital in her. She has done many things including serving as a hot air balloon chase truck. I'd show her off, but I don't see a photo attachment option.

I have a 69 CST/10 and it has the deluxe marker lights. I haven't removed them yet to see if I can clean up the ones I have. The old girl runs good, but of course has plenty of rust repairs yet to do. I'm doing a little at a time. By the way, I grew up in SE Kansas. Woodson County. I love your approach. Keep it up.

I have a 72 GMC three-quarter ton Sierra grande The truck has been in my family for 50 years the side markers are LEDs and my mechanic got the back side markers to blink as well and when you put on the brakes they go brighter 🤠

What should the orientation of the side marker lamps be? Bulb in front and reflector in back, or vice versa?
@ItsTheChad71
@ItsTheChad71 2 года назад
Great question! Reflectors towards the middle of the truck and bulbs at top.
@KINGoTHINGS
@KINGoTHINGS 7 месяцев назад
Bulbs at "top"? I searched lots of magazine and brochure ads and I concur that the reflector section should be to the center of the truck both front and rear.

Alright, I loved the Euro ones, but I'm trying to slick out my old blue and white 72 a little (frankly the trim work is too much of a pain) so I am gonna try to find some of those van markers in clear and put in colored LEDs. The clear lenses will look awesome against the white band on my truck I think. One step closer to having her back in prime form!
@ItsTheChad71
@ItsTheChad71 Год назад
That would be cool! I’ve never seen any clear or euros but someone might make them. Keep the pedal to the metal and good luck!

@@ItsTheChad71I tried to comment on this but there is no space available. Another thing you find interesting is that my 68 CST that I had back from 16-17 years old. As well as the one I have today both of them had the lights wired into them for the side marker lights. Both of these tracks RC St-Pierre I still have the remains of the one that I have high school.. that fiber connector and the steering box for column. It broke I had no steering and it nearly killed me. So I still have it. The one I bought five or six years ago has 50,000 miles give it take 5000 miles. It is a 19/68 CST and it has side marker lights in it. That first truck goes back to the early 1980s ownership. That's not too likely somebody modified it put in the side marker lights. And this one I have is such low miles out of Texas, she does not appear to be modified either. So maybe that was a CST thing I don't know. By the way if you like these trucks I've got several of them that I own and there are my small channel. I still have more of that. Put on there yet. Like a 67 with 28000 original miles. I've owned it since about 1984 maybe 85. I really like your explanation on this marker light.

I’ve got the aftermarket Deluxe markers on my ‘71, and I love the look… but I DIDN’T like when all the stainless trim pieces started falling off of them. Thankfully; they all fell of in the shop when it was parked. I ended up having to remove all of the stainless trim pieces and re-glue them. The manufacturer appeared to have used some poor quality 2 sided tape material to adhere them. Doesn’t hold up to heat cycling! Great video!

They look so sharp! Thanks for the info on the trim. I would like to try a set of the LEDs to see how they turn out.

Hey Chad, it there a way for me to tell what year my bed, fenders, and hood are?
@ItsTheChad71
@ItsTheChad71 Год назад
I can usually narrow within 2 year and sometime year specific. 67 / 68 fenders were year specific. 69-70 mostly would have engine badge under C10, custom or cst badging. 71/72 had engine badge under side marker. Side markers style also is an indicator. Hoods are almost the same 67/68 but slight difference. 69-70 had bow tie on the front of hood. 71/72 didn’t. I can narrow beds down by what tailgate it has on it, back up lenses, and trim. Paint color also help ID the year. If you have some stuff in question, shoot some pics over to my Facebook page or check out some of my other videos where we talk about some of those part differences.
