Dave, I truly applaud you for sharing these repairs and updates from a real world example and expectations. Working on a creeper, not a lift, rusted washers or welded bolts when they are not factory welded. Many have never seen a caged or captured nut even though this was a common design practice. Plus tips lifting one side at a time. Just super tips of the more experienced to make their job go well. Thanks Dave!

My first ever build was a '66 Mercury Comet and it took 3 yrs to finish whilst figuring stuff out on my own. I'd never done body work or paint until then. I started my new project last week, a 2wd '71 GMC wideside. Your videos have already made my life easier and this project will go much faster. Thanks for the videos.

Just did this on my 71 K5 Blazer. The front radiator support ones are the hardest. Get all the rusty bolts off the inner fender and drop it down so I can get my hands in there. Should have took the radiator out would have been a lot easier. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Awesome video. The blazers a little different setup but the same principle. Thanks again

I just did a long comment to a couple of guys about cab mount bushing install. Just if all you are wondering how and why I think I know so much is here is why; started 1967-1972 Chevy/GMC 4X4 truck restoration back in 1979. We've (our shop) done just under 400 of these units. Buying, selling and body-off-frame restoring and engine building. Back to the cab mounts my advice is very simple and clear cut ----do not under any circumstance use anything with the word POLY. My experience with that nasty word was with Energy Suspension company and it's cab bushing kit for 1972 Chevy truck. The composite component is so damn hard and unforgiving that nothing in the truck lined up. Body lines were off, doors wouldn't shut, fender hit the door, and everything --even the damn tailgate hardware jiggled and rattled. We had to take everything out and order out on ebay a stock OEM ---RUBBER---and that's the key word--Rubber-- because of it's ability to let the mount flex and move --the poly was like we put in steel blocks instead. That was our experience. Thx. Jim

Perhaps you can do a video on dual fuel tanks? I have a 68 c20 with a dual tanks but it is not connected to the switching unit under the floor boards. It was not a manual switch over, but an electric one. I would like to get it working, and if possible hooked the the fuel gauge or have a separate gauge? All 4 of my dualies had twin tanks - 3 were automatic the oldest one had a switch on the dash to check the levels in each tank. Thanks I need to replace the cab mount bushings - they are shot, so this video will be helpful

Can anyone recommend an installer for the body mounts in the Northern CA area, San Jose, or anywhere semi close? Don’t think i would have much success on my own.

We don;t have an installer to recommend, but if you have a floor jack and basic hand tools you can probably get this done in a few hours yourself.

Looks easy but the kit I ordered from Brothers Truck didn't have crush sleeves. Any help with how long and the size material to use for the front and back crush sleeve would be very helpful. The existing rear sleeves on my truck are huge and appear to extend from the top of the bushing on top through the bottom bushing. I'll need to jack up the rear cab about 3.5 inches to remove that from the top. I'll need to jack up the entire cab (Both sides, front and back) to remove them. Or, would you recommend using the existing sleeves on the rear with the new bushings/cushions?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV 3 года назад
You definitely can use the old sleeve if you want. Our sleeves are the same length as the originals were. Or, contact our shop and we'll get some sleeves in the mail for you, our older sets did not include the sleeves.
@russberry9200
@russberry9200 3 года назад
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Thank you. The back sleeves were in good shape so I used them. The front mount is difficult to remove. The bushings are worn so bad I could pull them out with pliers. However, I can't get the bolts/sleeves out which seem to be one piece like the rear sleeves were. The bolt turns as well as the sleeve but it won't come out through the floor.
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV 3 года назад
@@russberry9200 more than likely they're just rusted in like ours were. Bang on them with a hammer and see if you can bust em loose
@russberry9200
@russberry9200 3 года назад
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Tried that. The bolt and sleeve turn easily but won't come out. I tried hitting the bottom of the bolt with a sledge hammer. (Really hard)and jacked it up from the bottom of the bolt with a hydraulic jack and it lifted the cab up. It won't come loose. I might need to cut the old bolt/sleeve assembly out and use the new bolts that came in my kit from BT? But I then will need the new crush sleeves. I'll pay for them to be overnighted.
