1967 NBA Finals Warriors vs 76ers (Rare Footage) 

They are definitely among the very best. Basically perfect season.

Do you recall any specific games by specific players?

I’m still mad that Sixer management broke up this great team. They would have won more NBA titles if Jack Ramsey and Irv Kosloff had acted differently. Definitely in 1969, and strong, strong contenders in 70-73. Instead, Sixer management broke up the team, and destroyed it.

@@70sfan This 44-37 Warrior team played 68-13 Sixers extremely, extremely, tough in 67 championship series, falling just short in what would have been a monumental upset. They almost pulled off a comeback, barely losing in overtime in game 1, except for a controversial no call foul on Wilt which went against San Francisco. To this day, Rick Barry is still mad about this no call on an obvious Wilt foul against Nate Thurmond at the end of the game, which could have won game 1 for the Warriors, who mounted a stirring comeback. Chamberlain basically mugged and assaulted Thurmond. No call by the refs. They also stunned Philly in a game 5 comeback rally at the Palestra after trailing by 13 points entering the 4th quarter, and barely lost game 6 at the Cow Palace 125-122. This series could very easily have gone the other way. People forget that. 1967 was the only year during the entire 60’s decade that Bill Russell’s Celtics did not win the title. Unbelievable. Games 2 and 5 of the 1967 NBA championship series were broadcast on ABC. The rest of the games I listened to on powerful WCAU radio (whose signal stretched all the way to Syracuse, NY) with Andy Musser calling the action. Those were the days!

Today, there is way too much dunking the basketball, and way too much reliance on the 3 point shot. Back in the 1960’s, there were maybe 2-3 dunks per game. Now, there are maybe 12-15 dunks per game. I say: Raise the rim to 12.5 feet. Make the dunk a much more difficult shot.

And Billy Cunningham and Chet Walker . . .

Actually, Guy Rodgers led the lead in assists/game. Wilt finished third overall, which was unheard of for a center at the time.

They did. That's why the rebounding stats are much higher. There were simply more rebounds available per game in the 60s than in later decades.

While shooting 57% from the floor for the entire series. In fact his shooting percentage was the same through the entire playoffs. Average 31 PPG vs Cincy Than 22 PPG vs Boston And 18 for the finals. Many would say yeah but his points decrease. True, but his percentage stayed the same, while the assists increase. Which to me indicates he changed his game for each team. Versatility and IQ my friend. If it was needed, he would of average 30 like he did vs Cincy.

Noticed in Games 5 and 6 as Sixers were trying to close the Warriors out, Wilt scored more if need be...but kept rebounding! I mean the 24pts/23rebs is a 20 double/double you won't see very often!

That's why Rick Barry went to the ABA.

@@7omni748 Barry went to the ABA largely because his father-in-law Bruce Hale was the general manager and he received part ownership in the Oaks franchise. But you are correct -- he preferred Alex Hannam to slave-driver Bill Sharman as head coach, which was an added bonus.

AND with no 3pt line as well. If there was a line in existence, I would say it woulda been at least 43-44ppg. But again I don't know if it still would've been enough, because you'd also need to factor in 3s 76ers woulda it...

Game 5 played April 23rd in Philly. Game 6 April 24th in SF. They flied commercial then. What were they thinking?

Nate and Rick were the only All Stars on the Warriors.

Really...? Missed circus layup from all-time great Rick Barry is the reason why people call this era weak? I've seen Barry making identical shot many, many times.

@@BasketballHighway19 I fail to see the point, it was very tough shot. I can't imagine someone without basketball experience even trying such a shot without defense, let alone guarded by 6'7 Chet Walker with the help of Wilt under the basket.

@@70sfan I could imagine it perfectly. Someone without experience throwing up a mid air granny shot looking stupid as hell because of the contest while players nowadays would've hung in the air maybe double clutched that shot and would've had a better chance of making it.

Mullins was not yet the All Star he would become. But he was on his way. It was primarily Rick and Nate vs an All Time great team of All Stars.

If not for Barry, the Warriors don't advance past the first round. They had no other accomplished shot-makers at the time. In fact, Barry played with only four Hall of Famers (Thurmond, Rodgers, Wilkes, Parish) in his entire career -- and each for a relatively short period of time. Heck, Bill Russell played with that many HOFers in one week.

Percentages are misleading in that era because the game tempo was much faster then say the 1990's half court pace.

​@@RayManzarekRocksJeff Mullins is not a Hall of Famer. Chris Mullin, who later played for GS, is. But Jeff was an All Star later on.

@@Amick44 Meant Rodgers, not Mullins. Rodgers was a great ball-handler/distributor but an awful perimeter shooter. He was a liability in the half-court offense, which was/is the playoffs are mostly about.
