Thank you for taking the time to produce this realistic video of what an older, true driving experience is behind the wheel of a 911 platform vehicle!

All the little details seem right about this car. No fluff or polish; everything here is utilitarian while preserving an aesthetic. Great car, Zac, thanks for sharing!

Great video. Love all 911s especially those with character. I've got 915 in my 3.2 and the shift is firm, solid but you have to feel the click into gear. There's no slamming it in like a VW Golf. Truly is a joy to drive every time😊

This is SO perfect, my absolute dream car! Ratty, solid, bare-bones 911/12. I’d be happy with a variety of engines all the way from original, to this 2.5, RAT Type 4 or even a Subie. This video perfectly demonstrates exactly why I want one - not to show or impress or even go all that fast, but to drive on roads like this.

Guard's red 67 912 with a 901 dog-leg 5spd transmission was my first car. Bought for $9500 CAD in 1990 and sold a couple of years later when my house needed windows. Ugh. Miss it.

At the end when he accelerates... the gears are so close it sounds almost as though he’s shifting to the same ration. Never heard that before in a street car. Very very cool car!

Well well a smart build...a 912 with a 6. I tell EVERY BODY with a 912 forget "Original " Put a 6 in it !. Now instead of being shunned by the 356 crowd and the 911 crowd. Now you can leave the 912 badges on it and wizz by the 356"s and play amongst the 911's. Which ticks everybody OFF... And THAT is fun! What a cool car!!! Did you say still has points! Shame shame. Put electronic ignition in it Points close up while you sleep! Points are juttery ,spinning , on dizzy cam, just makes the points " spank" itself into "varing"its ability to spark. Bump up to electronic ignition ! Thats one step , into bullet proofing your car ! Screw stock old fashion "points" This is a true performance up grade. Electronic ignition upgrade is a " brilliant low cost move" Anybody convincing you to keep points......is very bad advice.... They say stupid things like "at least you can always limp home" Electronic ignitions are bullet proof, they will burn the fuel effectively over a wide band of fuel grades and varying amounts of fuel from carbs or fuel injection. All classic cars should have electronic ignition up grades put the points on the shelf !
@MindDezign
@MindDezign 5 лет назад
Ok ....deep exhale....please keep the 4 for the next buyer that may want it.....yawn...original. That motor in a 356 on a race track does go !. But in a 911 body its hardly an enthusiasts drivers car....besides the identity complex.....the fun value Is sorely missed. 912 owners get yourself some six pac abbs !

Or just what im doing. VW AS21 magnesium case type 1 2276cc, Eagle 2300 cam, 48 DRLAs. Approx 180hp and no weight change. A lot cheaper than modifying a 616, or a 6 cylinder or type 4. Probably only last a quarter of miles of a stock 616 although in reality not many people use a 1960s porsche as a DD compared to say 20 years ago so atleast several years before an engine rebuild. I'm keeping the original engine and trans for the next buyer.

@@cccmanhattan it’s why I sold my water cooled 911 and got Aircooled one instead. I don’t need to do silly speeds to have a fab driving experience. 👌🏿

One place the 912 beats the 911s regularly is in autocross. The lower rear weight bias allows the 912 to get through the sharp turns quicker. That said as you accelerated and the wind noise kept pace with the engine revs I had a big smile on my face. Yes, the four banger would not be able to do as well there.

I understand and can appreciate why people swap a flat six into 912’s but I’d like to see someone build a real hot rod 912 using the original flat four. There’s builders making 150,175,200+ horsepower VW flat fours so I know you can build a powerful Type 616 powered 912 or a Type 4 powered 912E. I just think it would be cool to go against someone in a something like a 911E with it’s 150 or so horsepower and blow them away with a modified 912 pushing 180-200 horsepower and better handling from it’s lighter weight and better weight distribution.

I LOVE the shape and style of the early Porsche, I HATE the mechanicals. the leaky oil, rusty leaky heat exchangers, injecting poison gases and fumes in the passenger compartment just isn't worth owning a Porsche. Maybe one day Porsche will wise up and get the Koreans to do their engineering, design, and assembly.
