I remember Lacy taking me, Ronnie and Gary to Rexall Drug Store to hear a shoe shine man play a dobro in the 60s. We were still young. It was in Avondale between Lakeshore and Riverside. I believe Gene Odom knows more than I do about who Ronnie had in mind in this song. That is the only experience I had.

@ steve Do you remember a blind Black man who used to sit and play an old worn out box top guitar in front of Pic N Save on Normandy Blvd / He always had his old bulldog with him and he played for tips. I somehow thought that this man may have had some inspiration for Curtis Lowe since he was a neighborhood staple.
