I grew up in Julington Creek in Mandarin, Jacksonville, Florida in the 1970's just down the street from Skynards Allen Collins , went to school with his daughter. Also Molly Hatchett lived just a few miles away off of Loretto rd in Mandarin lakes. We loved seeing them around and visiting their tour bus which was always parked at the k-mart parking lot in Mandarin. Those were Awesome times and their music is timeless.
Very cool to hear the details of the real event. One afternoon, I had a similar situation back in '82 and I was singing the words to that song, over and over as I hid from trouble and got out of it, that was a song I could relate to very much. One of my all time favorites, but especially back then.
bill wyman wrote a coupla books he said if i die with out the books these stories of the times will never ever be heard... so it is very important that the stories lives times be told..very very important...
I have heard bits and pieces of this story but never the details about the little things. Thanks Steve for filling in the gaps......When I got my Harley Softail years ago I named her "Linda Lu" cause Ronnie never got to ride the real one! Well......it's off to my painter to have the "Lu" removed! Boy......to hear the real story from you is amazing stuff. When "Pronounced" came out in 73, I wore that song out! (I was 15 years old).......funny, at 58 it's STILL my favorite tune from the boys!........Thanks again brother! Ed
If y’all have Netflix there’s an excellent documentary called “if I leave here tomorrow” “a film about Lynard Skynard” A must see I’ve watched it a couple times
So, the part about the water glass falling, and Ronnie running out of the bar and down the street at top speed, that did not really happen? The dude with the gun, probably did not really want to kill anyone, just put a big scare into him..this stuff happens, sometimes a gal will tell you she is single, or not mention another man at all, so you cant always blame some guy for flirting with a gal..the guy with the gun probably knew this..just wanted to scare Ronnie and get him out of there.
The song says nothing about a water glass falling, it says simply "the water fell on the floor" I always assumed it meant that he had pissed himself...his water fell on the floor...after all it was poetry.
I grew up on the Northside of Jacksonville, rough and tough like the Westside. I spent my weekends in Riverside just north of Lakeshore where Ronnie grew up. I went to teen clubs from there and Ronnie's father picked me up a few times before I had my license.
STEVE, THE LAST TIME I WAS IN JAX, IN 1994 I WENT TO RONNIE'S , CASSIE'S AND STEVE'S GRAVESITES, BEFORE THE ASSHOLE'S TRIED TO GET INTO RONNIE'S TOMB, TO SEE IF HE WAS BURIED WEARING THE NEIL YOUNG SHIRT.. THAT'S WHAT I READ ON THE INTERNET ANYWAY, I HAVE THAT SAME T-SHIRT, I SAT ON THE BENCH THAT CHARLIE DANIELS PUT THERE AND TALKED TO RONNIE'S GRAVE SITE FOR 2 HOURS, DID THEY EVER FIND THE PEOPLE WHO DESTROYED HIS GRAVE, THEY SHOULD HE HUNG ON A TALL TREE WITH A VERY SHORT ROPE, THAT MADE ME SICK TO HEAR THAT, COUSIN FIGEL
