I just purchased a 1968 in November. Like yours it has been sitting for 20+ years. I really enjoy your videos. They give me hope that I will get this little gem back on the road.
THANK YOU For giving me hope. Just purchased an MGB with some rusting along the bottom and I was worried I may have bit off more than I could chew, but seeing you say this one is worth saving makes me feel much better. Thanks for the videos. I'm subscribing
All body repairs are possible, the worst case scenario is to give up on repair and source an alternative body shell, but repairs are only limited by the ability of the restorer. All parts are readily available. If you can weld to a decent standard this car is easily brought back to good condition. Learning to weld properly and paint is a good investment.
My 74.5 gt is in similar shape going to restore myself but it's more of a learning experience for me , but I think of it as me basically building a car , a labor of love and with parts available and RU-vid I think it is possible. I'm going pull and rebuild the 1.8 lawnmower motor as well.
Worse saving but not if you want to make money from it. Unless it was free in which case you may make something. Budget £2k for the engine work. £1.5k for body parts, not including labour. £2k for other bits. Plus other stuff. The SU carbs may be seized, mine were missed so I restored a pair from eBay, £250 in total.
Alloy bonnet on a 1968 ? Last year fitted at the factory was 1967. " little bit" seems to be your favored phrase for something most would consider not worth the effort. One poster has said that repairs are only limited by the ability of the restorer.. I would say that would only be if you had unlimited financial resources and plenty of idle time along with skills. I see a "parts" car. However, I wish you luck with the project.
Last year was 1970 for the ally bonnet. We've had around 20 mgb's and C's over the years and it's far from beyond it. We've restored worse in the past.
