I just got back from a 125 mile cruise around the back roads of the Southern Oregon Coast (where the summer/Labor Day Weekend/tourists/ don't go) with my buddy and his wife in their TR6 and my wife in her '96 Z3 BMW and me driving my TR6, and the weather was absolutely perfect, and now that I am home and relaxing, I find on my computer a real live Chef Tush video just spanking new and waiting for me. So here I sit with a cold glass of wine and applauding your choice of rims. I loved them on your TR6. So it has been a splendid end to a splendid day. Triumphs, backroads, perfect weather. blue Pacific Ocean views, stop for lunch at a small town pizza place, cold beer, great friends and the cherry on top was your vid. Peace brother Dave, peace. 🍕🍺 😎👍
I like the look. And I see your thinking on the graphite color with a tie in to the interior..nice touch! I think the 195 55 on a 7 inch rim might look a bit too narrow where a 205 or a 215 would fill out the profile a bit better with that lower sidewall ratio. But I'll have to see it on the rims and what that looks like on the car. I think it will look fine..we will have to wait for your next posted video reveal to find out for sure...in any event...getting a lot closer to drive day!! And that's GREAT NEWS
First, and foremost, the doors look fantastic! What a perfect fit. Although I am normally a dull traditional fan, I fully agree that wire wheels would not be right on that car. Those wheels will look fantastic on it. Thanks for letting us in on the secret.
I coincidentally just bought a used set of Rewinds from another local club member and put new Ascent GTs on them, though in the 205/65-16 size. Only about 100 miles on them so far, but they seem like good tires. The ball joint bolts were too long and dug into the rim a bit while backing up at full lock, seems to be fixed after trimming them down.
Chef, those Rewinds are beautiful. Konig should be paying you royalties...including payment for the set that i will be putting on mine. No need to wait for tires. Great choice!
Let’s face it the car looks amazing and any wheel is going to look well on it but I couldn’t argue with your choice, looks fantastic. Go Tush, really on the run in now!
Hi Dave, I’m surprised in a way that you have thankfully chosen such a beautiful wheel for this car. I’m not being rude when I say that, only because I assumed you would be going trad, and with such a dark colour it may have made the car look a little dull…However, I’m over the moon with your choice and (along with my favourite side fender grills!) this build is the ultimate 😊👍🇬🇧
As you will have seen from my pics Tush, I went with the same rims and love the impact the change made. I have taken a couple knocks over putting "Mustang" wheels on(?) But despite being a big fan of the original look I am set with the new plan. I did struggle with tire size and have just started getting used to the 205/65/16s but they do not fill the wheel wells like the factory profile did.
You are going 55s? I dont love the monster truck that some folks end up with putting oversize wheel / tire combos on, that tire would definitely be the opposite effect. That is a 2 1/2 inch smaller diameter wheel so I assume u have lowered the suspension alot in this build?
@@MrRdb1963 yes, I have lowered springs in the car that are 1 inch lower than stock. I’m almost thinking that I may need to put a spring spacer back in the front but we will see after the tires.
I've always liked the wheels on your 6, it's not something I would run, but it does look good. On the tyre size, the original for your car is 185/80 15, the closest in maintaining your wheel/ tyre height on a 16 inch rim would be 195/65 16. The 55 profile won't fill the arch properly, plus your gearing will be quite out, revving a lot to maintain cruising speeds. Use an online tyre checker to see for yourself.
I agree completely.... need to go the other way on the profile for the 195 section tyres... up to.a 65 to get the right rolling radius and try to restore a classic look: handling and performance will be fine. It would be a shame to make the wrong choice at this stage...
Like them Tush, with the sportier look of the car I. Think these are perfect. The wire wheels will be good on the tr3. I'm gong t have do something because my front factory steel wheels on my TR4 rub a little on the willwood calipers with out a spacer. Nice choice, can you get these with a spinner? Look forward to seeing wither tires. Do you believe the wheel well , should fill out nicely?
Hi Robert, I’ve never seen them with a spinner but I bet you could fit one if you wanted to. Yes, I’m now thinking 195/60 series tires based on some calculations that I’ve done. Should fit just about perfectly.
I just bought VTO rims for my TR4, wish you would have posted this video before that, the Konig's seem to be a substantially better deal. I was surprised you wanted to put the narrowest tires on the wide rims? Couldn't you have got 6" rims if you wanted the narrow tires? Anyway, how about putting wider tires on the back since you have the rims for it, make give it a little dragster look?
I’ve had the rims from my 6 on the car with the 205 tires on…I think I’d like to go with the 195 as I think they’d look a bit better on the Michelotti body.
Dave they look great. Good choice with the graphite centers. BTW, the doors are looking good! Did you and Elin run into any issues mounting them (or is that another video)?
That’s another video coming up Jim…yes, there were issues. I didn’t think there would be but it took us about 7 hours to get them fitted and gapped acceptably.
Tush, you’ve mentioned a few times about having stuff shipped to US mailbox and then up to CDN one. Can you elaborate? I’m getting gouged shipping stuff from Moss and TRF directly to my Ottawa address.
Hi Rob. Sure. Check out the Cross Border Pickups website. If you register, you will get a US Address in Niagara Falls New York. You can have your items shipped there and consolidated before you ship them to Canada. They handles taxes, brokerage fees initially but you reimburse them plus a handling fee when you ask for it to be shipped to Canada. Now, here’s what might be difficult for you … my pick up box is close to my work so it works well for me. You have the option of getting your items shipped to your home address but I’ve no idea of that cost vs pickup at their location. Cheers Tush
@@cheftush thanks. Pre-COVID I could drive down to Ogdensburg to pick up, but struggling ever since. Love the wheels btw…seriously looking at pair for my 75 now.
Hey Dave I was watching your video and you're talking about putting a 1955 16 on that car so you might need to check in and see how much hike you want to give up that car is probably going to be about an inch and a half to 2 in shorter than the original tires that was on it I mean it probably carried a 165 15 which is basically a 165 80 15 inch tire I don't know if you want to give up that much height you might want to look at like a 195 60 16 and I'm still going to be giving up some height compared to what would have been factory as far as the wheels love the wheels actually just got upset for my TR6 thank you
Hi Harold, thank you for the comments. Yes, I’ve been doing some calculations of tire rolling diameter in the stock 15 inch vs 16 inch. Also, I have lowered competition springs that lower the car 1 inch so I’ll need to take that into account. After some research, I’m thinking that 195/60/16 might be more suitable. My TR6 is set up in a similar fashion and I am running 205/60/16’s on it. I think the 205 is a little too wide for the 250 so that’s why I’d like to go with the 195.
I think they look great on your TR6 and will look just as good on the 250. I've considered them for my car and found them for $199.95 Canadian with Canada wide free shipping at Tdot. Did the Tush delivery system do better?
540 US for the set…free delivery to my US Mailbox and then another $130 Canadian shipping and taxes to my Canadian Box. So, all told about $208 Canadian per Rim, with exchange, delivery and taxes.
