Nick all I can say is wow what you do is more than just make a dream come true. It's preservation of history which is actually more important because it's the foundation that we use to further our foundation in advancements. You have to have a base to start from. So cool to see how the roof was removed revealing how it was manufactured and assembled back in the day. Great Video Nick love it.

In 1970 a coworker had a 1970 Charger R/T 440 with a six pack-727 trans and it had a steel factory sunroof on it. The freeway system was not completed from Cleveland to the south of Ohio and he allowed me to drive it for about 30 miles. Awesome car, awesome performance .It would have lasted about a day where I lived before it would have been stolen.

That generation of Chargers was such iconic styling and the size was just perfect for muscle car cruising. Not as suitable for high performance handling as the smaller cars, but much easier to get a nice comfortable ride. You still have the choice of putting a modern chassis under them or going back to stock.

RE: '72 Demon ... this had to be a 'special order' car, bought right before the Chrysler "Direct Connection" program started. I also bought one brand new thru this program in October of 1971. Certain options were NOT listed in the Dealer's Options lists. You had to have the right part numbers (not available then from the dealers) EX: The twin ram scoops, and hood paint trim, my engine was also orange - mine was a Police Interceptor 318, with solid lifters, and a mild street camshaft, interior was 'comfort' padded Charger seats in the front, with carpet only in the rear (I had to buy, and add the rear seat after delivery). My trans was a 3 spd power wagon, floor shifter, with a Dana rear end. It also came with bigger diameter torsion bars, as they knew I was going to drag race it! Because I raced MOPARS at our local drag track I was blessed to have a WATTS line phone number to call before I ordered it. Factory Reps used to visit local tracks and selectively hand out business cards with the special phone numbers on them (NOW we call them '800' numbers) if you needed any "factory help". The engineer I spoke with gave me part numbers to order what I wanted from Dodge, and I was told to inform the dealer of my choice to "just order it, or I'll go somewhere they will". Mine did. I had quite a few great years with it, before losing it in a divorce. I hope you enjoyed yours as much as I did mine!
@Doc_Dolan
@Doc_Dolan 2 года назад
@annon You're welcome! Yes, they were that! First thing I did was add a set of Delco Air Shocks to the rear axle, then mounted a pair of deep dish chrome reversed wheels, and mounted a set of Delta G60 by 15 soft compound cheaters to them, screwed to the rims for when I went to the track, and reduced the air pressure to 10 pounds. 11 inches of traction on each side to get the power to the ground. Won most, lost a few, but was a force to be beat on the street!

I went to high school with a guy whose brother had bought a Demon. I think his was the only one around in a county of mostly GM and Fords. This was in the early 1970s in S.C. The guy must have done pretty well running against the others 'cause that Demon was all I would hear him talk about. Doc, I enjoyed your post, and the info of the early 70s Mopar history.

It's the moment of truth It's time to remove this Chargers roof This car is in the proper situation Some parts are no longer made so the project requires some fabrication lucky George is a master of customisation They don't make em like they used to It's gonna take some work to get this classic straight and true At Nick's Garage it's what they do Paint and body takes alot of skill and a tonne of time but with looks to kill It'll be well worth the dime A true specialist has the tool for every job when removing factory welds you can't afford to be a yob or you might upset the motoring God Out with the old in with the new Just what you can expect from Nick and the CGA crew Consistently making Mondays less blue Bumper Mail time too!

A Canadian magazine called Bone Stock & Modified Muscle Cars had an article in their Summer 2018 issue. (They too were at Motorama last week) The back issue is still available I believe. Its an H-code engine made only for Canada. Quote " Just over 100 of these cars were built for Western Canadian market in 1971/1972. There's a really good chance this car was sold new from either Crosstown Motor City in Edmonton, Crestview Dodge in Regina or Pembina Dodge in Winnipeg. Hope that helps some.

Right when George said it, I was thinking the same thing. How fortunate to have those replacement panels available! And, that roof fit pretty nicely! Looking GOOD!

Another great video from all the team at Nicks Garage - well done! I love watching the restoration type episodes as this is the stage I am at with my ‘70 Challenger R/T SE build. George & his team are obviously passionate about what they do and true enthusiasts. Hopefully I can pick up some useful hints & tips along the way and maybe - just maybe - mine might come close to be as amazing as your Kowalski build Nick 🤞🏼

Nick... I think the Hemi model kit was such a terrific thing. The best engine builder to build it. Awesome. It might make for really good video. We don't usually get to see a full assembly..

I am very familiar with all of these tools and can contest,it is definitely a pain. My brother and I are both doing our cars (I have a 69 charger) (he has a 70 Barracuda) and as the time goes I realize how long it takes but it’s so worth it. It really helps you learn and just makes the final product that much more cool.

The work we go through to save the cars we love!!! I have a 69 Charger which I restored 16 years ago. A year before the replacement roof panel was available. Since it was a vinyl roof car, the quarter panels were not bonded to the roof at the factory. Now I will probably have to replace the roof panel. But, it’s so worth it! Great video!👍👍👍

I know they probably will, but double check the cowl vents for rust holes. Maybe they can pour some water down and make sure they are waterproof.

Man, if Dodge was to make these again,(exactly like this) they would clean house on the auto market. I'd be good for 3 of them. I don't need all of todays computer crap on my car. It's just not necessary. Great video & info that I did not know about. Thanks a bunch.

That " computer crap " is what gets you high HP , fuel economy and engine life. 1970 Charger 440 6 pack auto trans. 0-60 6 sec , 14.2 1/4 mile , 9 MPG compared to a soccer Mom 2022 Toyota Sienna 0-60 7.6 sec , 1/4 mile 15.8 sec , 36 MPG Or if you want a more even comparison 2022 Charger Scat Pack 0-60 6.4 sec , 1/4 mile 14.9 , 25 MPG

Hi Nick, I do the pretty much the same Quality of Body work and paint here in Oregon, I am retired now and have a special factory 1979 Dodge 1TON POWERWAGON Factory Made WRECKER(1973 Dodge Chrome Yellow) as I remember it came with a 440 6pack, now has 318 and you could drive it from Central Oregon to your shop and put it to work, I would let you have it for what I have in it which is so little in todays market. TOUGHEST wrecker I have ever seen, factory double frame rails/Rivited back to back on the frame. Have pulled semis out of the ditch with it. Love your videos , used to work in High performance Machine shop and knew most of the top name racers in the 70's Shirley, Don P. etc. Dang 440 heads with Winona guides, GRR, used to grab and break new reamers. Best Regards.

31:39 ... ain't that the truth. Once upon a time had a '69 Charger R/T B5 Blue with black vinyl top that was from Mr. Norms Dodge in Hamtramck, Mi... *factory 4-speed* w- console, 3.54 Dana 60 and 15" Magnum 500's. Not restored but nice #2 condition with a strong 440 and good paint that was entered in a few car shows. Sold it like a fool 25 years ago. I still miss that car. Biggest mistake I ever made..

I used to own a 72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring, it had a build date of June 71 and came with a 1970 318 with the tiny Carter 2bbl, my father also had a 72 Sebring but his had the smog 318 with the bigger 2bbl, my car also had a Limited Slip 8 3/4 and could smoke the tires no problem where as my fathers had an open diff and would struggle to squeal the tires, I think buddies Demon was probably like my Sebring an early build car that got some of the left overs from the previous year.

I've always used a sawsall,hacksaw.. and leave it ⅒" long to allow the metal to shrink as it cools following the welding. I get my clips With the Driprail. I also leave the cuts ⅒" long for shrinkage during welding process. I cut a Porche in half and replaced the front clip without any issues. The doors and windows fit perfectly.

18:56 This is what happens when a car isn't e coat dipped from the factory or after it was chem stripped and not e coat dipped. Hand spraying will never got into hidden areas / between seams. This is what the yellow Charger 500 has to look forward to.

Spot-on! Dipping the body shell is the right way to go, then E-coating it. It costs more but is worth it.
