Spring is around the corner and we want to to test drive the car as soon as the weather allows before we go too far with the assembling. Are we ready for that though? We might need to do some prepping. So let's get crack-a-lackin'

I have a few extra throttle return springs that I can contribute to the car if required….let me know and I will drop them by.

Elin, thanks for showing us that recommissioning a car often requires solving one problem after another; it's not just bolting things up and turning the key! lol

A lesson in "Never take anything for granted". 😅.. Third time lucky on the starter motor.. At least the oil priming went as expected.. A brilliant lesson for those who are doing their own rebuild for the first time. Keep on keeping 😅..

Elin, I had one of those Goodyear tyres, it had the same problem, flat on the bottom. That tire is the same as the car came with, and they have not made them for 45 years. I am so glad you got back to the '70 TR6! Yes, I want to see the TR3 get finished too, and poor Anna, I suppose she will be neglected again, poor girl!

The good thing about these starters is that they can be rebuilt!

Never leave an engine, transmission or rear axle empty of oil after rebuilding, this avoids potential expensive mistakes!

Good job using the VR-1, the only oil commonly available which is suitable for these Triumph engines

Another interesting video and thanks for mentioning my name. I was a little concerned that you were running the starter motors too long.

Nice one! I wonder if it wouldn't make sense to disassemble the rocker arms/shaft and check the oil passages for blockage. That oil flow did not look right to me. Great that you had 3 starter motors! 🙂

I am sure the reason that the front rockers and that area of the rocker shaft wear more is that these engines do not seem to sit level…. they are higher at the front and the oil drains away (and is slower to refill) so the metal surfaces are unprotected. It would be interesting to see the engine and chassis angles compared in a video !

Elin, if you remove the rocker shaft, make sure it's clean inside. Even new ones come with metal residues from the machine shop and that clogs the oil passages up. That's one reason why they get so worn.

Elin, wondering if you've considered installing thru wall exhaust plumbing with flexible tubing you can hook up to whatever engine you're running in the garage. Think it would come in handy year round, but particularly in the winter.

Don’t want to answer on behalf of Elin but I see the question 😉 It’s possible that he can’t modify the house/property as he rents…

Elin, that old blue rocker cover does not go with the green hoses at all, so perhaps you could maybe spray it black for instance? (Sorry but “blue with green should never be seen”? )….🤔

At 22:20 he says that the plan is to swap the valve cover to an alloy cover, so no need to paint the old one :)

Sorry Elin (I wrote that before you mentioned the new alloy cover was eventually going on..)

I think you may have a dead spot on the commutator. Take the starter apart and clean the area where the brushes ride. Look for stuck brushes or weak brush springs.

I never trust battery cables alone to carry the amps necessary to start a car. In my experience they are only sufficient to supplement the weak battery

Any reason you’re using regular 20w/50 over break in / running in oil? Also I would’ve thought the lack of oil flow from all the rocker oilers when just turning the oil pump would be normal? The rocker shaft design would mean that a rocker at the extremes of travel would have worse alignment with the oil way on the shaft. So it’d be fine with the engine moving, but with the engine static the oil flow will look uneven.

It would look better, IMO, if you painted the valve cover the same color as the body. Or black if you cant do it in red.

1:04 If you were actually applying the principle of "first come first serve", your poor GT6 would be driving already 👀👀

The difference is Customer Cars vs Personal Cars…I know that Elin would love to just work on his projects full time (and I’d like to work on mine full time too 😉) but, you gotta feed the kids, pay the rent, keep the lights and heat on, pay the bills etc. etc…

I too have been here since the beginning of the GT 6 and totally understand as Chef Tush states there's a difference between business and pleasure. It is even harder when the job and the hobby are the same thing ( working on cars, Triumphs). I had to be retired to find the time to rebuild my TR 6 to a drivable state.

@@cheftush But Chef, when the GT6 is finished, he has more space in the shop and therefore can do more customer cars, right? 😄😄
