The first film, based on the Royals' 1971 season. anticipated that their new stadium, Royals Stadium (now Kauffman Stadium), would be ready for 1972. However, due to construction delays, it did not open until 1973. The narrator of the film is Buddy Blattner, who was the Royals lead broadcaster from 1969-1975. He had baseball experience as a player and had announced games for the St. Louis Browns and the expansion Los Angeles Angels from 1962-1968. He had also teamed with Dizzy Dean to work the national Game of the Week telecasts on ABC and CBS from 1953-1959. Notice the size of the Kansas City Municipal Stadium where the Royals played from 1969-1972. The distance down the left field line was 369 feet and it was 421 feet to straight away center with a high fence. People think that the present Kauffman Stadium is big.
