This is a tour of a 1973 Dodge Polara ex-Washington State Patrol car. We love old cop cars here and have a bunch of them. Lots of neat details on how what options are on a police vehicle with some original Washington State Patrol Equipment.

You need to do a run where you can hear the secondaries open up on that Thermoquad.

Yup, I came over to your Channel because of Jaime, and as long as you keep posting Mopar's- I'll be here to check 'em out, although I'm not a particular fan of cop cars- since they were my enemy back in the day -lol. But I do admire the performance package that came with Mopar cop cars 🙂

Maybe the enemy, but those are four door performance muscle cars. It's kinda like having an AK 47.

I’ve got a 69 Ford Custom 2 door sedan 428 police interceptor. I love old cop cars, especially Fords but would love to own a Plymouth or dodge one day.

Really nice to see a video on the 1973 Polara. You don't see many videos on the 73. Plenty of 72 Polara video's. My grandfather owned a 1973 Polara custom 4 door hard top back when I was a boy and I always remember that car. I took a picture of it when I was a boy and still have that picture today. I always wanted to buy one a 73 Polara custom hard top but I haven't seen one since the late 1980's. You don't even see them at car shows. At any rate thanks for the video.

When I was in high school in the early seventies in Arlington Texas they had one Dodge Polara police interceptor that was special in that it had a 6 barrel 440 in it and I should know because I got pulled over and ticketed for speeding and I got to talking to the cop and he said that I wasn’t going to outrun that 440 6 pack. I’ve never forgotten about that.

The cop is right. Even new police cars Are fast If I see a cop. I slow down. So I don't get a ticket

That’s cool you were able to have the Thermoquad rebuilt. In our area there was virtually no one that wanted anything to do with rebuilding one of those. On a side note I’ve had 5 different 1972 Fury’s, all of which were former Ohio State Highway Patrol Cars. They had the U-Code 440, & there was a 600cfm Holley carb on them. Those were the days, How I would love to find one again but it’s highly unlikely anymore! Good luck on the Polara, you definitely have a good one to start with if you plan on finishing it up!

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

That light bar is epic man, very cool its a local car too thats really in good shape - pretty cool to see all the little things that they added to a trooper car. Nice whistle on the carb :) I did see DDG fix that, very cool.

If old cop cars that haven’t been further trashed or modified by second, third, etc owners or destroyed as taxis are time capsules and worth leaving alone except for mechanical repairs to keep them running and driving. Finding that fabricated console is a treasure in its own right. Items like the console and the light bars became obsolete and had little or no value as technology progressed. That clip board, along with a Motorola radio was the mobile terminal of its day.

FYI they make black vinyl covers for those lights on the light bar. You can cover them up when you are driving on the road and when you are at a car show you can remove the covers.

Oregon State Police used a similar lightbar around that time too. I'd love to find me something like this or an OSP cruiser from the same time period.

Was that a F-78 or G-78 x15 tire spec on the door? Notice those were NOT radial tires for 1973 but they were starting to use them. They were some really cool looking Goodyears. I very clearly remember these cars. I loved the idle from that dual exhaust they had while they were sitting on the side of the road watching traffic. And in 1973, these cars were still pretty fast.

Washington State Patrol cars (now SUVs!) currently have license plates that begin with the letters "WSP." I'm pretty sure that was the rule in 1973 too. The A/C cutoff switch was not required so it wouldn't throw a belt, it was because the compressors would fail under extended high RPM (pursuit) operation. Washington state purchased Dodge and Plymouth cars for the State Patrol for quite a few years. The big three auto manufacturers would bid on an annual basis for the 300 or so cars needed, and Chrysler was very competitive. In 1975 the state switched to Fords (with 460's), then switched again in 1976 to Chevrolets (with 454's). Those were the years of catalytic converters with carbs (no FI), and both the '75 and '76 cars were pretty gutless.
@rocketresto
@rocketresto Год назад
They bought “mid size” torinos one year to save gas and they got worse fuel mileage than the 440 mopars.
